    This is a great video of the Danube cycling path! I'm working on getting my cycling skills up to a level where I could do just the Melk to Krems part as a day trip with my son. I'd also love to do the Schlögl Schlingen hike on a different trip. I never realized how beautiful that bend could be! Thanks for sharing and inspiring!

    Lisa: Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the film. Just doing part of it would be great and that’s a really nice section. The hike was pretty steep but not too long but the views were breathtaking looking down at that huge bend- the sharpest curve in the entire river. Hope you have a chance to go and thanks again for watching.

  • @kenwilliams12

    Thanks so much for watching. One thing we noticed in Austria is very few places took credit cards even some of the nicer restaurants and they weren’t a lot of cash machines along the route. I would plan on bringing more cash than you normally would just for that reason. Once you get to Vienna then of course it’s fine but in the small towns you don’t have a lot of options

    Hi Ken and Caroline, Thanks for posting the video - it is inspiring and we certainly want to do it soon now. We are vegan, and I heard Caroline mention of a vegan restaurant along the way. Did you guys have recommendations of vegan restaurants that you've found along the way? Thanks!

  • @kenwilliams12

    @kenwilliams12

    5 жыл бұрын

    Chinmay Patel Thanks for watching the video and I’m glad to hear that you are going to do it as well. Following one of the most famous rivers in the world is really a great place to generate a lot of memories especially in those beautiful small Austrian towns. I have to be honest and let you know that being a vegan is tough in Austria. Caroline prefers that but will eat non-vegan food on occasion. Somehow just about every dish that’s offered in Austria is based on ham of some sort prepared in various ways and it was really tough to find food for her. We stumbled on that restaurant in the city of Krems and she was over the moon excited to have some first class vegan food but that was really the only place on the trip. It was almost impossible to find vegan food during the cycling along the river where they just had very small shops or a few seat restaurants.Also we were surprised along the route how few restaurants took credit cards. There was one restaurant that had a 12 page menu and waiters wearing white shirts and they accepted cash only and it was kind of a challenge to find cash machines so I would keep that in mind. Cycling along a wide bike path with no cars for so many miles is just an incredible treat so I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time but you may have to do some planning for your diet. Good luck!

  • @kenwilliams12

    @kenwilliams12

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thank you. Yes, it takes a lot of planning to make these videos and more than once we had to go back to get the correct shot. I used a lollipod tripod that I ordered from the UK and for this ride I had a Panasonic Lumix pocket camera which as you can see took great video. The lollipod was set up as tripod for a few of the shots we were both in and its so light I use it like a selfie stick, just holding it out in front of me. If you fold it down its like having a 12 inch handle which you can use as a type of stabilizer and the camera itself had a built in stabilizer and then my software further helped with that. My daughter was a trooper...always needed a morning shot, so I rode ahead, set up the tripod, rode back, rode towards the camera with her, stopped after we passed the camera, went back to get the camera and then rode on for the day.The shot of us high on the embankment took the longest with me having to hike down the hill to the bottom and set it up and retrieve it after, but I really liked the way it turned out. I also enjoyed the images of cycling through the wine region, I think it showed exactly how it looked going through those old beautiful towns. Thanks again for you kind words and for viewing.

    Monte Whitefield Thanks very much for watching. We actually started out in Germany in the city of Passau at the confluence of two rivers. Really great city to explore. We attended their public market and bought some food and sat down by the river on the first day before we started cycling. Our bikes were fine. We never had any mechanical problems and when we picked them up they were ready to go and we just turned them in at our hotel in Vienna at the end. The seats were so comfortable I soon gave up my padded cycling shorts and just wore comfortable gym shorts which made the riding a lot more fun. One thing that surprised me was how few businesses along there accepted credit card they all wanted cash. We’re talking some very nice restaurants with large menus and waiters dressed in black-and-white. There weren’t a lot of cash machines on the route so I would probably bring more cash. Also if you are a vegetarian it’s challenging to find vegetarian food as Caroline talked about so you might have to do some planning there. Hope you have a fabulous trip.

    So you guys, I did do this trip 2019/August. Spectacular from Schlogen-Linz. And the orchards from Wallsee--Adagar side of river were aromatic with fermenting fruit on the ground. Soaked all afternoon in river at Durnstein in 90 degree heat. We flew Munich. Train to Passau, bike to Tuln, train last 20 miles to Vienna. Biked to hotel, dropped off bikes, 2 days Vienna in 90+ degree heat was wonderful. Short air flight back to Munich for flight back home. One of the coolest trips I've done ever. Nothing better than stopping at small mom/pop villas to eat and snack along the beautiful river at our leisure. A trip I'll never forget and reminisce of often!
