Cyclekart Austin 7 1923 ~1st test~ Brooklands racer post office special Terwilliger

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Very first "road" test, out a bit in the desert ~Success~
Ted (age 10) helped with the camera and got some wheel time!
Doesn't have a very good turning radius, but I can work on that.
Also needs:
- better alignment (really bad toe in for the test)
- leaky brake line fixed (bango fitting/ gasket?)
- steering shaft locking collar
- exhaust pipe wrapped
- better / bigger seat padding for Ted
And.. the rest of the body completed!

Set aside the build which I really enjoy watching you sort things out. It’s clear you’re having a tan more fun with the experience of bonding with your son. Some Thanksgiving 30 years from now he will be telling his son about what you and he did! Well done, good stuff, exactly what the cycle cart community is about.

Thanks Tim, hopefully he'll be able to drive at an event before too long!

Just exploring the Cyclekart world and your page came up, love your design! Been looking at conventional 2 rail designs with dual front springs but, like the "shortness" of your build with a single spring! Gonna have to do some more reading on single spring designs. Great project! Thanks for sharing!

Pick your favorite pre-war inspiration car first! Lots of really neat "small" cars had longitudinal leafs up front, like the Bugatti's. Honestly, the dual front spring design is much easier and simpler for a CK build. Look at some of my Blitzen Benz videos!

Hi Ben, Nice test this should compliment the Blazing Blitzen. It looks like this is a big step for Ted, do not push. I am trying to get the 1926 Miller ready for Pillsbury Vineyard event! C’Ya on the track somewhere!

Thanks Charlie! Yeah Ted was a little bit overwhelmed in the seat, but he was super jazzed when he got home and told mom about it. Wish I could make the Pillsbury event out there, you guys have a great time and stay safe!

The Mikuni carbs are great. You only need to run a cable out of the top, the slide, and to a gas pedal. Set the leverage by how far up on the petal arm the cable connects. Make 5 different holes for adjustment. Be sure to make a petal travel stop so your foot pressure doesn't get transferred to the carb slide. My advice is to stay with the Mikuni. Study them online.

Great advice, erm, SENATOR! I did the cable out the top from the slide, and I do have a pedal stop, but only a few holes for adjusting travel. Is there a way to work the slide from the carb itself?

@@BenTerwilliger , yes, if you disconnect the cable from the petal end and bow it back to near the carb. Or make a shorter cable. But, you can't raise the slide from outside the carb unless it's by using a cable connected to the slide. I'd just run a shorter cable with a self-made handle. And another thing. It's common to reinstall the slide backward. The cutout along the lower edge of the slide goes facing the carb air intake end.

Good build thread, very interesting, I’m assuming the number plate is a Brummy post code?

Need to make the camber negative, with the top in, not out. Watch a bike or motorcycle corner. The outside tire is simple washing out and the inside tire has the mass shifting away so it has no grip. Sorry I couldn't get out tonight.
