    Great vid, it's a good looking bit of kit this. That smaller than bbs motors front chain ring will be so welcome on modern mtb frames too, Bafang take note because it's about time the poor chain line issues are dealt with.

    The plastic plate at the end is an optional stop block you can wire tie (or similar) to the frame. Also, for some internal views, there's some out in the wild, related to FCC certification for the Bluetooth system. CYC has updated the user manual, describing the greasing. Under that QC sticker is likely a single screw that holds on the controller cover. IMO one negative is the very wide Q - I hope CYC offers a shorter spindle eventually, more suitable for 68-73mm BB installs.

    Thats good regarding the manual. I must have an older version. I have made a 3D printed part to use to locate the motor. I don't think I would have been able to use the plastic piece due to my gear cable. Appreciate the advice!

    @@HighVoltageKits I forgot to thank you for this video. I'm hoping for the best with this motor. I don't view it as a BBSHD "killer" or even a replacement - I think it'll serve the purpose, desires, and performance that disappointed Tongsheng buyers were hoping for. I also wonder if Bafang will view this motor as a threat and develop a new DIY BBS-ish motor to compete (as opposed to the M625). I'm also hoping that CYC obtains UL certification for the entire motor system, similar to what I believe Bosch has.

    With regards to applying the correct torque to the adjustable face pin tool. You don't need a torque wrench etc. An experienced mechanic should be able to get it within or pretty damn close to the acceptable range just by feel. (Or feel with a tappy tap hammer haha) Which is ofcourse why there is no way to connect a torque wrench or torque block to the tool.

  • @HighVoltageKits

  • @AndrewDCDrummond

    @AndrewDCDrummond

    Жыл бұрын

    @High Voltage I think the only way would be to stick a torque wrench into a bolt on something else, set to the required torque and then grip the wrench handle at about the same length as the CYC tool and try to guage the feel of how much pressure is being applied to the torque wrench and then get the same feel on the CYC tool. That's quite a high torque though, might be quite difficult to gauge the same feel when you are tightening that hard.

    Thanks for the video. I’ve recently built up a mtb with the Photon and absolutely loving it. I’ve seen on a thread that under the QC sticker there is a screw which allows you to remove the cover. Inside is the controller unit which can be removed for replacing. Did you notice with yours that the motor got noisier after an initial break in period? I’ve put about 120km on mine and the whirring is definitely louder. Have you had any luck lubricating the gears?

  • @HighVoltageKits

    I have not lubricated anything. Unfortunately, mine has issues and is looking likely to have to go back to the dealer for repair under warranty. I will do a breakdown once I know what is up with it. It had about 1000km on it. It looks like you can remove the controllers so regrease becomes possible but after 100kms it should not need that.

    Hey Debbie. I have not used a carbon frame. I stear clear of the stuff. It's brilliant until it fails and then it can be catastrophic. My mate in the uk nearly lost his face when he hit a pot hole with his Bianchi carbon. The forks sheered off. It put me right off. That might not be a fair assessment of carbon as a whole but the result is I haven't tried one. They sell well tho so you might be able to do a good trade. Sorry I can't be of more help.

  • @HighVoltageKits

    @HighVoltageKits

    Жыл бұрын

    The chainring to the best of my knowledge is proprietary.

  • @hindesite

    @hindesite

    Жыл бұрын

    @High Voltage I get that the chainring is proprietary as it fits over a motor hub casing to achieve a decent chainline but it still has to work with chains. Shimano 12sp chains have Hyperglide, and the inside plates extend in to the space where the wide chainring teeth fit, so the teeth need to be relieved slightly to allow this. If they don't, Shimano chains will need to be swapped for SRAM or KMC etc, and then you lose the advantage of Hyperglide cassettes. I hope CYC got this right.

  • @HighVoltageKits

  • @hindesite

    @hindesite

    Жыл бұрын

    @High Voltage if you look carefully at the wide teeth, there should be a chamfered edge that allows the tapered ends of Shimano inside plates to fit. If they are just square - like the narrow teeth - they won't work with Hyperglide chains. Well, not until they've generated some clearance : -)
