Ok so I wanna say I'm completely blown away by this show's ability to tell the story between the lines. Here's the sense of this conversation I recently understood: Lucy sees David's urge to become edgerunner and edgerunners' fate is always a certain death. She's afraid to fall in love with him because of that. But when he responds that he'll take her to the moon, he's making her sure that he wants to stay alive, because he needs to to keep the promise. That's when it clicks for her. It's pretty easy to catch up until this point. Later on in the story when Maine dies she breaks and goes distant from everyone to fight Arasaka alone. And I couldn't fully understand it. Sure she was close with Maine but worked with him for just a year and Pilar's death for example didn't break her that much. Actual reason for her to go distant is that she knows David's fatal flaw to carry everyone's dreams and Maine's was to become a Night City legend. So if she said to David back then that her dream is to go to the moon with him, I doubt a lot of later shit would actually happen. So yeah, I guess I'm gonna go cry again

This is the deepest moment. She tells him right there that she doesn't want him to die on her... but he didn't hear it. He thought it was all about the moon, but for her it was about him.

@@TheBeastInBlack Usually anime (media in general really) has a habit of a loving relationship being two people who are super lovey-dovey and constantly talking about just HOW MUCH they love each other. In Edgerunners the relationship between Lucy and David is more subtle- they actually just act like a couple. They never even say “I love you” as far as I remember but it’s very obvious through their actions that they do

Genius cinematography. Makes their fate even more tragic in hindsight. David's promise was to take her to the moon, but Lucy's real dream is to escape Arasaka's grip. Being with David makes her feel free, and as soon as she falls in love and they kiss, where does the scene reveal them in the zoom-out? On the moon. Also, the foreshadowing of him asking her "In what way?" (are we worlds apart) she grabs the back of her head, right over the brain stem plug-in thing Arasaka implanted in her, is wonderful.

I love how lucy sounds when she kisses him, like she's been keeping that feeling inside her for so long. She acts tough but in reality she really wants love but doesn't want to let her defenses down and get hurt, and now she finally found the right person for it, so when she kisses him she lets it all out, the relief, the joy... F*CK MAN, I'm truly angry, this characters really didn't deserved that ending

David kinda had it coming. I love him as a character but take a step back and see the actions he did. He stole many assets vital to individuals, killed armed forces and authorities and even innocent people like the worker at Arasaka tower right before her dinner appointment with her son. To us the couple's story is a tragedy but for people of Night City? It's justice well served. I don't know man, thinking this way kinda helped me to get over the anime.

You could see as early as the end of episode 2 she was falling for him. Little things she did, little nuances. Then he did what Maine said and grew a pair. Going from hesitating to move to not flinching when he pulled the trigger on that cyberpsycho. In this scene she builds so many walls but he pushes them over so easily. Each time she gives a softer excuse until she runs out. Finally he makes his move and his promise in such a way that there was no doubt that he was in love with her. That's all she needed. The sad fact is she never really doubted him as an edge runner but she never wanted to see him hurt. Naive as he may be, she wasn't. If he climbed the ladder and became the edge runner everyone believed he could be then he would most certainly end up dead. That's what she was ultimately afraid of.

Exactly…. I see so many people try to say she wasn’t in love with him from the very beginning and I don’t know wtf they are talking about. If a woman has ever loved you at any point in your life it’s pretty easy to see how she felt.

This is what love is. Learning to suffer for the sake of each other in the face of adversity, shielding each other from harm, whatever the cost, however painful it may be, going forward and overcoming the obstacles that life throws at us making any necessary sacrifice. Not for our sake, but for the sake of the person we love. David and Lucy incarnated this bond perfectly, and this is what makes this story special.

Saying "They should've just communicated" is redundant because we've been shown throughout the show that it's crafted in both of their characters to not communicate effectively. Also even IF they did, it wouldn't work and like you said it would've ended with David dying sooner, or Lucy or even BOTH. Damn that's brutal to ponder about

I loved that image spot of them kissing on the moon. It tells me that in that moment Lucy found her moon in David. She didn't need to be there anymore. All she needed was him. But he never realized that he was enough for her.

I guess It's safe to assume that David was her 'moon'. Man this stuff is heartbreaking

Thats why they show them on the moon together, for me that always meant that as long as she was with David her dream was complete, after that it wasn't about actually going TO the moon it was always about David and think about it, yeah the song says "i was liar" when David promises not to die and take Lucy to the moon, but it also says "hey little stranger, thank god you're finally home" while SHOWING them on the moon together, you probably already know all this but fuck this relationship makes my heart both soar and cry its so good!!!

David fulfill 4 promises, to his mother, maine, lucy and himself. He is really special because in the end, doesn’t affected by cyberpsychosis and the real legend at that time in night city where anyone can easily break a promises or turn around like kiwi said. Even when lucy left him hanging without an explanation, he still keep his promises to her.

When the rocket sets off, the rocket creates a line seperating the two, as the line slowly cuts the scene into two, Lucy decides to join his side. When she does and David responded with same love, she is already on the moon metaphorically, they are already, in a brief moment, alone together away from Night City. The beauty of love cannot be properly spoken, sometimes actions speak more than words. The kiss was necessary to shut David up, and let him understand...that he needs to feel Lucy, as confusing as she is, rather than just hearing the words, as words can be deceiving sometimes. Lucy is not very confident in her own words, she cannot properly express herself through words, but through actions, actions speak more than words. David is a man of action too, and so they actually speak the same language of love, love through actions...and valuing one another more than themselves...

2:05 When David asks why they are worlds apart Lucy puts her hand over her deep dive port. She was raised to be what she was, but she wasn't ready to tell David that yet.

ever watched darling in the franxx? Cyberpunk actually reminded me a lot of it: the final third of the anime is total stupid shit put the ending will mess you up the same as Cyberpunk if not worse XD. Its the same as cyberpunk in a way that once you finnish it you will constantly think about it and be empty inside. Give it a try XD.

I wonder how did Lucy had gone through her night, the night that David died. When she reached her home, looking at the house that belong to her and David, realising that David ain’t coming home , ever. When she was sleeping on their bed, realising David won’t be there sleeping by her side anymore. When she woke up, and she couldn’t find David was sitting there watching TV, and once again reminded her, that he’s gone. Damn, that feeling must be worse than death.

Alright, cool, "I was a liar" syncs up with David's promise, we've established that, but _the entire song_ is also Lucy's inner monologue during this scene. It's her trying to rationalize her feelings, how this guy doesn't hate her for betraying him, how painful it is to know that holding onto him will only lead to his death, but letting go means giving up on something that makes her feel this way for the first time in her life. And in the end, she gives in to that feeling, because... _"I think I get it now."_ This fuckin' show, man. Deserves to be up there with some of the greats of anime.

The moment when David responds "I will not die" after the scene, I knew he'll die. Even without knowing the fact that Afterlife has a drink named after him.

Speaking as someone who's almost never a fan of romance subplots in action and science fiction shows and movies, this scene is amazing

I just noticed when Lucy tells David that they are worlds apart, she clutches the back of her head, where she was hiding her port to deep dive when she was still Arasaka's prisoner.

In his own way, he did take her to the Moon, just as he promised. He just couldn't go with her. But he did make sure she got there in the end.

Lucy: Don't make a name of yourself as a cyberpunk by how you live, make a name by how you die. It's not the life or the end you deserve. Just take her hand and leave that shithole PLEASE. Leave as far away as you can. Fly her to the goddamn moon. Live for her. It's the least he could've done

When she says they are worlds apart, on second watching, I know understand what she meant. When david asks why, she touches the back of her head and that's where her deep dive port is. A defining aspect of her character

I love re watching this scene as it adds so much more context. I love how she says: "You and I are worlds apart" David: "In what way?! Spolers ahead! Lucy then proceeds to touch the back of her head, which holds her true backstory, the reason why she's here, which is a subject of Episode 6 after the Maine and Kiwi's incident, where Lucy has to deep dive into Tanaka's data. "You got a deep dive port, why do you hide it?" And then explored further ahead by explaining how Lucy is running and hates Arasaka. "We stopped running for somebody else's dream" I love little details like this omg

I remember earlier in the season, someone told David not to make promises you don't know you can keep.

The only man who took her lady to the moon. But still broke his other promise.

Aaah i feel relieved reading comments cuz it. Makes me realize that there are thousands who are just as sad as i m now n we all are sharing the same emotion i think..

And at the and the only thing that Lucy actually wanted wasn't the moon, was david, after reading the name of the last episode "my moon, my man" i realized that and almost cry like an idiot

I didn’t cry at all watching this show for the first time Watching this scene with the second half’s context and song lyrics broke me

I really like how the song says "I was a lair" when he says he won't die on her.

Edgerunners broke my heart Even though i expected the ending it still hit so hard and the songs also stuck in my head too 😭😭

You know, normally I watch animes (short ones) like these in one session to have everything in my memory going through them. I normally do this in order to figure out all the clues and have them in my memory so that they hit extra hard once they are revealed. But even watching this show in one go, I couldn't imagine the end as it was and couldn't see all the clues. Just tells you how far they went to put more quality an development into 10 episodes than most animes/ shows manage in 3 seasons. Also this scene in hindsight simply breaks my heart. It's like the show already tells you not only what's gonna happen, but also how it's going to happen. The moment she says: "your the guy who jumps into the fire to rescue someone, even when you know you're gonna get burned". She even says: "don't make a name as a cyberpunk by how you life. Make a name by how you die. It's not the life or the end you deserve" - yet she probably already fears that that's exactly the life and the end awaiting david. She already knows that he's the type of person who will sacrifice himself for someone else. She's telling the audience. And yet, we didn't see it coming. At least not the way it happend. This show is an absolute masterpiece. It was a pleasure to watch. I may need to see a doctor know for the rest of my life to get rid of the emptiness the 10th episode left me with and I'll probably need a new heart but I don't regret it. Oh and KZread: thank you for keeping this in my recommended videos so that I can keep going through mental cracks and emotional crises everytime I open YT. Sorry for the long comment, but THIS HAD TO BE SAID.

I’m saying it, this is the greatest scene studio trigger has and probably will ever do.

I never got chills like this while watching a kiss scene before.

One of my favorite scenes in the show honestly. The dialogue is just 👌

So I have just started watching this show and I am amazed by how much emotion and character growth it has. Out of how many video game adaptations, this is just great down to the animation , to the music.

Hope this show gets a Blu-ray release date soon.

Man, Dawid Podsiadlo really did a masterpiece of a song, the one playing in the background. I honestly love it more than Stay At Your House. Everytime i hear it the lyrics just break my heart....this one, with connection to this moment, to David and Lucy, it just hits different man...

This is also where I remembered this is a cyberpunk story, there are no happy endings. Wrong city. Wrong people.

Something i just noticed when they kissed. They show them on the moon. I think thats showing to David that Lucy in that moment got her real wish from the moon: to escape

little stranger is one song i relate to so badly thru out this anime

And then it all went downhill from there. The highs and lows of life.

Happy for my boy D on of the only good thing to happen in his life . He protected it with everything he had . Respect!

wow.. this might be one of the most powerful scenes in anime I've seen in a long time.. David would have done literally anything to help his mother after the car accident, but he we restrained by the wreckage of their car. not being able to check on his mothers condition as she lay in the road surrounded by car parts and fire completely altered David's psyche. so when Lucy appears in his life like an angel sent from heaven right after his mothers death, he promises to do everything in his physical ability to get her to the moon. and with his high tolerance to chrome, David feels it is his sole duty to keep upgrading. in the beginning we see a young boy with nothing to live for. kid wont even download the latest update for his standard neural implant. how did he go from that to a flippin chrome junkie?? the traumatic and sudden death of his mother and his guilt surrounding his relationship with her has completely broken him. so he finally turns to the comforts of chrome. but he is misguided. it isnt until this scene that david realizes his true goal. to help lucy the way he wished he could have helped his mom. even before she dies, his relationship with Gloria was distant and it was obvious he did not share her views when it came to his future. he feels an immense amount of guilt over this and is prepared to give up his sanity and his life to atone for what he feels he's done.

exactly. I also feel like it was the unexpressed feeling of love he had for her. it was so much mixed disdain, conflict and love that the latter never got expressed. I also felt this with my parents who put immense pressure on me

David is a good choom, a good person. A more fucked up guy would’ve just been angry and not even recognize/ realize the rest of the love he had for his mother. He was a good person
