    The players are members of the Smokey and the Bandit poser gang. One of the encounters has nothing to do with cargo. They are just randomly attacked by members of a Fast and Furious poser gang who are pulling a "heist". This will allow for a truck top fist fight between "Burt Reynolds" and "Vin Diesel". For extra immersion have the theme song to both movies playing at the same time.

    Okay, so idea for one of the waves (perhaps the petrochem one). Basically, you have a bunch of guys attacking the truck and the blocker cars to keep them occupied, then in the second round you have a final vehicle pull up behind the trailer, using the action in front as a diversion. While everything is going on up front, the vehicle in the back does its best to stay just behind the trailer to keep their visibility low (and cause penalties for whatever notice checks are in the game. I don't have Cyberpunk yet) and pop the trailer open. They then take as many barrels as they can before being noticed. If they get spotted after getting at least a few of the barrels, they then just GTFO because that's the prize for petrochem, and even one barrel is worth a lot to them. This could lead to a side-quest where the party must hunt down the truck with the barrels on the thought that if they don't get it back, they won't get paid.

    I love what you say at 10:02. I remember a multi-table game of 2020 which was run back at GenCon Socal in '03... and I remember Max Mike looking around the room and telling the lead GM that the players were not paranoid enough. All of the tables started getting awareness checks for things like a 6 y/o kid walking down the street... at 1 am... in the CZ. Turns out it was just a kid, but I'm pretty sure that one of the groups took him out "just in case".

    OH Man, the memories. I ran that scenario maybe 6 or 7 times with different groups as their first or second job as a way of gauging how well their sense of do-or-die was in tune with the corrupt world of CP2020. I even made a set of maps of the route including two zoomed-in annotated submaps of the Utah and Colorado portions. Map had commentary from their netrunner friend congradulating them on scoring a high-level job and wishing them a safe trip.

    If you ever run this a third time, one idea you could steal from one of the Fast and Furious films is to use some kind of magnetic gadget to hack into the cars electronics and take control of certain functions, that the PC have to remove. Have you ever put the PCs on the other side of this scenario, having to hijack a vehicle?

  • @mr.pavone9719

    I was thinking something similar; What if one of the attacks was a straight-up cyber attack? The truck's systems begin shutting down, maybe even feigning an engine breakdown. The truck might even pull itself over then just turn off. Once the PCs are out and trying to figure out what happened, that's when they hear choppers in the distance...

    Getting ready to run this with my group soon. It is gonna be awesome. They're about to head on the road. Our Nomad is actually driving the truck, and called in back up from their clan. 3 support cars. I have 5 players total, so the Nomad is driving, with our Fixer riding shotgun in the truck, while our Solo, Medtech, and Netrunner are each riding shotgun in a support vehicle, with one of the Nomad's clan mates driving the support vehicles. So looking forward to the action and chaos as I throw enemies at them!

    The first time I was in a group running this it was the starting adventure of our first Nomad focused campaign with most of the characters belonging to a clan that had a grudge against Petrochem either losing their homes to Petrochem, losing loved ones in failed efforts to resist Petrochem seizing their faamily's land, or both. We didn't ask for extra money for the job but did ask for bonuses if we could prove we had taken out any Petrochem agents or mercs we could show were working for Petrochem.

    I'm looking forward to it. No telling how many times I watched that original teaser trailer and the new one. Lots of tiny Easter Eggs for fans of the old pen and paper game. I'm crossing my fingers that knowing the original game might give me a slight edge once it finally releases. Mike Pondsmith has been working closely on this one and I trust he won't let his baby be anything but perfect. He's had many opportunities over the years to make a video game form CP2020 and it wasn't until CDPR came along that he believed anyone could even pull it off.

    Good review, sir, thanks. My group started in Night City, but quickly moved HQ to Kansas City - it's less population dense than the West or East Coast, but right on the edge of a Dead Zone and Central to most of the country, making adventure hooks plentiful (plus we lived near it, so were very familiar with it). This would flow nicely, and you could even make your players go to Cali first by whatever route they wanted and have another couple of encounters on that leg before really getting started. And when you're done with this adventure, I suggest checking out Gaslands. You already have the cars for it, the rules are cheap, and it's really growing in popularity.

    Honestly, I think the only change I would make as a DM would be for the corperate guy being so flustered that he lets it slip that the truck was never supposed to make it. Probably something along the lines of "F**k the truck, kill those bastards." Also as an alternative way to complete the module if the players manage to total the truck and they don't have a nomad connection is that you could have another group of nomads come by that are *really* interested in the truck. Perhaps they are severely low on cargo space for one reason or another, so they could offer to transport the cargo in exchange for the broken truck and a cut of the pay. No sense in picking a fight if you can make allies instead, plus, a little extra money never hurts, especially if you're overflowing with resources at the moment. Alternatively, if the players decide to shoot first, you can have a glorious showdown to end the adventure on.

    Think I totaly salvage the scenario for Shadowrun. I have the old CP 2020 rulebook somewhere in my collection. But as I never had the chance to play it properly - and have some oneshot adventures between my 3-weekly Call of Cthulhu campaign every so often.... yeah. I totaly use that. Starting location: Rhine/Rhur Megaplex in the German Alliance - then right across Europe to somewhere in Russia. Plenty of war zones (or however you want to call the Marienbad Council) and other fun places to be. Have to account for magic somehow. But hey - some pissed of elementals or nature ghosts might be fun... Seth - I love your series. It gets those old creativity-gears grinding....

    A few Awareness checks here and there. Some moments when a second car started getting close and they got paranoid until the other car took an exit or drifted further ahead or behind them. The radar detector going off when they were passing speed traps. Needing gas. A drive check to bypass road debris. Nothing too much, then a fast-forward to the next scene.

That would be a mean thing for a GM to do, the party pulls into the yard where they're supposed to drop the load, but they get caught over on their drive and have to pay that Big, Big Fine. But that's Truck Drivin'

    Late to the party, but I might have a few little suggestions, lifted from being a trucker IRL. Maybe you get pulled into a weigh station or stopped by DOT cops for an inspection. Do you have a 'runner or tech that can falsify your logs and/or bill of lading? Did you get legit papers from Biotechnica before you left? Maybe the cops are going to jam you up. Or maybe the DOT inspection would have uncovered the transponder and put you on to the con, but one of your party got an itchy finger and blew away the officer, and now you also have the local law on your tail. Maybe you break down or BioTechnica programmed the cybertruck to stall out at a predetermined location and won't take your calls to get repairs. Can your party fix it? You gonna pay out of pocket for repairs? Maybe call up a party members clan, or just hijack/steal some trucks, transfer the load right there, and ditch the rig?

  • @SSkorkowsky

    @SSkorkowsky

    5 жыл бұрын

    Challenge Ratings are really only possible in a Level-Based game like D&D. In Skill-Based games there's no was to do it because there's no character levels. More so in a system where any character can go out and pick up a missile launcher that straps to their assault rifle. Best method is to look at the PCs and guess what they can handle. I suggest looking at the Goon and Supergoon stats from the Cyberpunk 2020 book (they're in the sidebars in the Never Fade Away story). That should give you a decent starting point. For low risk you're looking at more handguns, a few SMGs, and a couple rifles. As it escalates, you can bring in more body armor, armor-piercing rounds, and explosives.

    I seriously have not been able to find old Cyberpunk 2020 modules. And finding PDF files that aren't being sold on Gaming sites is pretty damn tough.

    Atlas Games made a few CP2020 modules. You can find them on Ebay and Amazon, but they're pricey (put "Atlas Cyberpunk" in the search). I suppose the renewed hype for the game is to blame because they used to be dirt cheap only a couple years ago. The best luck I had was waiting for Ebay Lots. I'd pick up several in one go. I really wish Atlas would release the rest of their old Cyberpunk Modules on Drivethru RPG, and also allow for POD physical copies. It's a real shame that some of them aren't listed there.

    I did. All I got was the CoC Scritch Scratch scenario. I tried sweet-talking Delta Green or Unknown Armies, but they were reserving those for people who did the event games at the shops and I wasn't able to stay long enough for any of those.

    I changed this scenario to fit a bit more in my spanish scenario and the low street level of it. I mean, firsts days on the edgerunners life and already getting a job from biotechnia transportint something so important? I know, biotechnia knows that the cargament is no important but the characters think is for real. I made an adventure where a rustler recently get a few pigs from a job an needed to transport it to another place but he have a debt with a loan shark and this one could assault the truck to get the pigs as payment. They are gonna transport a decoy truck loaded of a sound system doing pigs noises and mature for the smell

    Why is the currency Euro's in this setting? Is Europe like a superpower?

  • @SSkorkowsky

    @SSkorkowsky

    4 жыл бұрын

    The currency is called EuroBucks (EB for short). It's a combination of the Euro and Dollar. I'm a bit rusty on my Cyberpunk history, but I recall it was from a scheme that the power of the dollar could help settle the Euro during a period of high flux, but then the dollar crashed and world economies suffered. I might be wrong there, but the short answer is they're a currency called EuroBucks.

  • @SSkorkowsky

    As I said at 7:45 because the map was from the last time I ran it, and I made the start and end points different for my game. Why did I do that? Because I found the path more interesting. Petrochem is based out of the Republic of Texas and I wanted it in their backyard. Also, my players and I are from Texas.

    When CP2077 releases, I'll be dropping everything to play it. I've been wanting this game now for over 20 years. Don't know if I'll review it, since so-far I've only reviewed tabletop RPGs. Now, there are whisperings of something called Cyberpunk Red, so we'll see about that if/when it happens. While I've read Escape From Innsmouth (or most of it) I won't review it until I've played it, and our game schedule is pretty full for a while, so I don't know if we ever will play it.
