I love Cy's stories. Im 69 and was raised in Amador county. We moved in about '58 and the ranch near our puny house did the same hay harvesting and barn storage. I remember seeing it and playing in the hay loft. They had an outdoor kitchen, chickens, outdoor oven and stone grinding wheel. They had hand pump water well, no tractor and one big horse. The owners main job was working for the railroad so this wasn't done for profit. Just to feed the big horse and the milk cow. His stories bring back memories of what the gold rush area was like back in the 60's. There were cows everywhere. This year my dad would have been 101. Happy new year.

Double 👍👍. Always enjoy Cy stories. It’s how America was built. His story’s are similar to many guys here in New Zealand.

I agree with cy - “lean meat’s a little dry you kinda need a little grease in there to help it go down” - wise words and true in my experience

I will also say what has been stated many times over on your comments section. Scott is the reason for excitement to watch the videos. But when Cy is the one who centered with his stories of past it reminds me of my great grandfather and my grandfather. This holds a special place In my heart for what older generations have done and still do through knowledge. This makes me never feel that I can’t do something and build and or accomplish anything. Thank you very much for these videos and I hope the very best for this new year for you all. God bless. Keep them coming.

I'm amazed that Mr. Swan survived, and very happy that he did. What a fascinating story.

What a great show!!! I sure do wish I had a video of MY Dad... We hayed with a '46 Ford N... cut, raked and hauled to the hay mow. We used a home made car frame hay wagon with slings and pulled a Minnesota Hay Loader behind...the slings were pulled up with the tractor. I would say that a foot clutch was a better device than a hand clutch... much quicker to drop the front end if it was looking at the moon!! The first N tractors came in 1939. followed by the 2N in 1942 and the 8N came in late 1947 and 1948 with their 4 speed tranny. Great video, I'm 76 and laughed and cried both.

Thank u EC for sharing this with us. These old timers are truly the last salt of the earth Americans. I'm 32 and I can't imagine anyone from my generation caring their crutches in saddle bags and putting up fences in the mountains. Men like this just don't exist anymore.

Love listening to Cy, I have been fortunate to have had a grandfather and a great Uncle who were tough as nails and knowledgeable. I always loved hearing their stories about their younger days. Learned allot from both. Cy reminds me of them.

Whenever I get sore and tired from working construction 20 or 30 days in a row, and I think "oh God I need a day off, maybe I'll just put off today's work till tomorrow" I put on a Cy video as I drink my morning coffee. Then I lace up my boots and go to work. Can't afford to be missing any work while the weather is good. Nature will dictate when I can have a rest. Cy's stories are a great motivator to me. A reminder of just how tough a guy can be, they inspire me to keep going even when I'm dog tired. I hope to someday be even half the man Cyril Swan is, wouldn't be too bad. Scott too. You guys help give me that little push I need sometimes to be a better Craftsman, father, husband and man. Can't thank you guys enough! Finding this channel four years ago was actually life changing for me. Profoundly influenced my whole philosophy on work and craft and life in general. Happy new year Scott, Nate, Cy and everyone else here! 22 will be the year that our roaring 20s begin! Here's to another beautiful year of wonderful work and craft!
