Just an addition to my comment below, the very fact that you have a channel devoted to CVT rebuilds speaks for it's self, very rarely did one have to rebuild a "geared" box.

Great info sir! New subscriber question. On the cvt belt the oem has ridges like the edge of a quarter. I'm rebuilding a jfo15e (12 Nissan versa) the ridges where worm off the belt. The belt is smooth on the sides now not grooved or chewed up just not grooved. (Variator pulleys look great) Question #1 Can the old belt be reused? Question #2 I did buy a new aftermarket belt and it has no ridges at all just smooth. Should I use it or the old one? Just not sure what's best. Thanks For your time.

Hello nissan doctor is it possible that that mechanical parts of 4x2 cvt can be use for 4x4? Seems like i wanted to reuse some parts inside from 4x2 then i will return all needed parts in my 4x4 cvt parts to fix it in my car. Thanks

2013 Nissan Pathfinder. Primary speed sensor broke and got stuck on the end cap. While trying to pull it out it slipped inside. Try to take the whole end cap off to retrieve the broken sensor. Can I just take the end cap off and retrieve the broken sensor. Or do I need to open from the side with the torque converter

i have a 2016 nissan sentra sv 1.8 runs fine in park and neutral but once in drive or reverse it shudders and stalls...only if i add gas itll drive normal but once i stop itll stall again could it be a valve body and mind you i scanned the car and no DTC for transmission or engine?

I just spend $2,500 on this rebuild.. I hope it was worth it my mechanic explained a lot of these parts saying some were defective… in all my car drives really good. Do I have to break in my transmission? It just seems so stiff like before it would floor it. Now it just seems like when you wear a new pair of shoes

I'm kinda understanding what's up, but not sure if it will be too much. 🤔 I have never done it, but have done a few other things like replacing suspension on 2009 maxima.

Hello! I'm a nissan tech myself, I have seen guys rebuild these units constantly! My question is what is the life expectancy of these rebuilds? I know they are warrantied for 12k of 12 months after the 84k extension. Because ive heard they fail after about a year and require complete replacement. Is this true? Thank you

  • @NissanDoctor

Hello Dano, welcome to the channel. If is properly built, the transmission shouldn’t have any more issues, but you have to do it right. As you can see in the video, we replace the complete sub-assembly (minute 6:15) that Nissan sends assembled and that’s what fails. That said, there is a possibility that the transmission fails again, we have installed complete units that have failed, so there is percentage that it will fail again but not because of the rebuild. As you should know, only those certified by Nissan can work on these units. Thank you for watching and your support.

The only way to rebuild a CVT gearbox is to put some proper gears in it. CV gearboxes are OK for some machine tools, useless in road vehicles, except for maybe mopeds. Just another point of difference car industry marketing stunt. IMHO. I have owned several Nissan 4X4 cars (Pathfinder & Terrano) and they were great cars and they towed caravans well, I will not touch one now until they put proper gearboxes in them. The Y62 Patrol and Navara UTE may be different, but I can't afford a Y62, LOL.
