Melissa!!!! I was Terrified to see what was inside! So relieved nothing was in there especially since my beauty blender is black so there could be mold growing on it and I don't even know!

You can clean and disinfect your beauty blender with a little bit of oil (extra virgin olive oil or any cooking oil) and a good amount of dish detergent (1 part oil and 2 part detergent). Mix the 2 in a container and soak your beauty blender, along with any other makeup brushes in the solution. Then take them out the container and place them under running warm water while squeezing all the makeup that has been built up on the blender or brushes. It will look BRAND NEW after doing this and will be free from any bacteria.

if in doubt, chlorine bleach is brutally effective at sterilizing and cleaning. why would you use vegetable oil, and where did you get that from? o.0' it might help dissolve fatty/waxy residues, but so does dishwashing soap. (or bleach)

Daiso sponge detergent is the best beauty blender cleanser in my opinion. You can get it cheap off of ebay or just buy it at daiso if you have it close by :)

The main reason these sponges mold is because some people put their damp sponges away where they cannot dry thoroughly such as a makeup bag or even a sponge case. They need to be in the open air to avoid mold growing. I've had the same Beauty Blender for longer than I'd like to admit and it doesn't have a mark on it nor any stains and I don't get breakouts.
The body of mold is typically invisible to the eye; the part we see is the reproductive structure, so it's possible that there actually was mold in that sponge. There wouldn't be any reproductive structure on the inside of the sponge; that's why it looks clean.

Exactly! That's why I'm still suspicious after this vid. Whenever one of my grandparents just cuts off a moldy oeice off their bread (not that it happenes often but sometimes it just happens you know), I keep telling them that it's still moldy, you just can't see it!
Now use a microscope hahaha

I washed mine everyday for at lest 2 months and it started to grow mould!
I personally replace mine sponge every 3 to 5 months, but that's just me. Because I am scared of bacteria growing that I can't see.
mabey the sponge was getting washed to much or it wasnt getting enough clean air which can create exteranal funguss plus you may have just uesed it for too long useally the recomended time of use is 3 to 4 mounths
I wash mine in really hot water, drop in alcohol and then let it dry. I've been using the same sponge(real techniques) and still looks brand new. Luckily, I have 7 different sponges.

Idk why people keep these sponges for so long. A few months at the max. Do you keep dish sponges that long? No! So why keep a sponge you use on your face so long? Be smart and hygienic!
This makes me feel good knowing that when I wash my sponge its really getting clean and nothing funky is going on my skin :)
Yikes! Whew ... I was like please don't be mold ... especially after you sniffed it !! But it's good to know what the inside is like .. thanks !! 🙂

The black spot is mildew and the reason that it is only on the outside is because the sponge is nice and dense and there is little oxygen to help the mildew grow.
I wash mine with a gentle bar soap and sterilize it using the microwave (I just put the wet sponge in for 30secs on high) and dry it after with a paper towel. Takes me 2 mins and I've never had any mold or gross build-up. I use the same sponge
Love this video! So glad that I now don't really need to worry

How you was thinging that will something inside if you wash th sponge evry day
If you're worried about mould on sponges, after you do your makeup, wash the sponge and blow dry it... Any sponge that's getting wet all the time and not drying properly, can grow a mould of sorts It's like washing couch pillows... you put them through the washing machine and then dryer so the middle is getting dry just as well as the rest of it is
@LaMonaKNiver1

You are absolutely correct.. that is cleary mildew (mold) and it comes from not drying completely.

Thank you so much!! Thank you for watching. I hope to see you comment on more videos! Have you been having a great week?
It's not the product that will make it moldy. It's the fact that its constantly wet if your using it every day. It's just something that needs to be replaced periodically if it's your go to.
Well I know I'll sound crazy ,my beauty blender sponge is ( some might gasp) 4 years old now and still looking pretty good . I don't use it everyday but I keep that baby clean !

+Reminisce Thrift mine was looking great for a really long time! I think they can Be taken care of for a long time. 😀
I enjoyed watching your video. These are my favorite sponges. I only keep them for a few months and I wash them every day or two. I was also curious, so I looked up the manufacturer information and it says to replace them every 1-3 months. You are lucky it lasted so long. And of course, now I feel even better that it wasn't growing anything.
The recommended use of a beauty blender sponge or any sponge is a 2 months or 3 months max if cleaned on a regular basis
Oh man, that black spot definitely looks like mold!! I can’t believe you kept touching it.
Omg I was soo scared, haha 😅 What a relief that it's clean.
I love this video so beautiful xxx
Just because it wasn't in the middle doesn't mean it wasn't mold. The was definitely the beginnings of a mold outbreak.
I just subscribed. There's something different about you and the way you are in your videos (I presume all, I've just watched this one). What I don't understand is all the dislikes on this video, it was very interesting and we're glad that there was nothing funky in the sponge! Maybe people expected it to be rotting or something :( oh well. I look forward to more videos!

+shiv247 you are the sweetest. Thank you! And you can let the negatives get ya down 😀🤗
Mine looked like yours and I cut it in slices ... definitely mold!
I’m surprised there are people without mould , I live in humid country it’s impossible to avoid mold
Remember to let the sponge fully dry before putting in container because damp airtight places are molds best friend!
I hate the thought of what mine look like inside lol great video x
This was really helpful
can i reuse a moldy sponge after it is cleaned thoroughly
If you put it in the microwave in some water for 30 seconds after you clean it with soap and let cool and then squeeze out all of the water and let air dry it will sanitize it for the next use. You just have to make sure it's completely dry.
What do you guys use to wash your beauty blenders?
@TheBlushedBeauty
7 жыл бұрын
+azowskii I use either a solid product called Beauty Blender Cleanser or I use an everyday antibacterial hand soap. Both work great!
How many times did she say "this black spot" 😂😂😂
Oh man thank goodness it wasn't just full of mold I guess! Haha!
The black spot could be because you had it drying but didn’t rotate it while drying. And to get your stains out completely use zote soap
This was weirdly entertaining hahahahah
omgsh i was cringing when you were cutting it and then nothing haha at least you know if you look after it and clean it, it still stays clean on the inside :)

I was shocked at how the inside looked! I was expecting the worst.
oh my, if you wash it everyday of course it's gonna grow mold! if you add moisture to it every single day, it's gonna be perfect for bacteria and mold. Just get two or three and use another one every day. then there's enough time for the sponge to dry and the mold to die off. BTW, you have bugs everywhere on your body and it's pretty normal. e.g. in your lashes, you have little bugs living happily ever after because it's moist and warm and lots of nourishment.

🎶 Oh heeeellll naaaoooaaaaahhh! 🎶
if you use it for a year its gonna stain??
Its still mildew... which is mold.. just like what you get on your tile,, need to DRY it as completely as well as wash it completely. I know its an old video but I live in FL (mildew capital of the world)
You can boil those sponges. & put them in the dryer too
Anyone knows why a beauty sponge starts desintegrating/crumbling apart? I had some relatively new ones that after a month or so (barely used) just started doing that.
Soooo why does this video have so many dislikes? I don't get it

Idk why people keep these sponges for so long. A few months at the max. Do you keep dish sponges that long? No! So why keep a sponge you use on your face so long? Be smart and hygienic! They're not expensive. Spend the few bucks and save face.

BUY DISPOSABLE SPONGES. Watch the doctors episode in beauty blenders. You'll never go back.
well, they are not too expensive, I suppose one can change them a little more frequently...if ever they get bizarr...😉
Wow I buy a new one every 2-3 months
Bc of that you have to wet the sponge so the product goes just onto the top layer
Great news! My sponge has black spots, too. I even started washing it with anti-bacterial soap. I am going to cut the outside of my sponge wear the black is!

Mmmm I really want to eat mango now.
Consider the kitchen sponge tests, all the bacteria found in them after only a few uses. I can just imagine these sponges and how quickly they get disgusting. Especially if kept in the bathroom. The middle takes forever to dry. If you like using them, I would recommend buying a bunch and switching at least weekly.

Yeah I can only imagine what it looks like under a microscope. I don’t keep mine in a bathroom. It’s kept in my makeup area in a guest bedroom on a makeup vanity. Open access to air to dry. Not closed up. Not in a bathroom. :-)
Could be mildew. I recommend microwaving it for 39 seconds after washing the sponge.
@TheBlushedBeauty
2 жыл бұрын
Totally could be. Have you microwaved these sponges before?
I had bought a real techniques sponge....this exact same one and it came with an orange hard case with it to "store it in" and it had venting holes in the sides of it so I figured 1-its made to be put in there for storage,2-it has vent holes so it should def be fine, and 3- I mean why would they sell it with that if your not supposed to put it into there after using?? Right? Hahahha nope,I used my blender....put it into the hard vented case and when I went to use it the next day....it had black on it just like this one! It had nothing on the inside but just black on the outside. I'm thinking that putting it into that hard case made it grow fungus on the outside layer of the sponge! But I just don't understand why they would sell the case with it if u can't put it in there damp after using. I don't like leaving my blenders out in the open due to dust and anything that may come into contact with it so I figured it was genius to have a little Case to fit in perfectly. Ha! Nope! They must have made it just to put in the case dry,but kinda dumb if u ask me...maybe if your traveling..yea put it in there while traveling but it's just kinda dumb I think. Anyone else have this issue or think that it's stupid to sell the sponge with the case but if u put ur damp blender into it it will mold on you!?! Idk, i just think it's pointless! Needless to say I threw out the case for it(and the sponge Ofcourse😉)lol just thought I would share.

TheBlushedBeauty it was this exact same sponge. The real techniques orange one and it was a one pack from Walmart(one sponge and the hard shell case with vent holes in it) same exact sponge you are holding here. I was soooo mad cause I only used it once and then stored it in the case, went to use it the very next day and it was covered in those black spots so I immediately threw it away. Scary!

TheBlushedBeauty no i havent used the case for it again...so nope hasn't happened again. And I've been using the eco tools green pack of sponges lately. I figured why would I spend the extra money to get the one with the hard shell case if I can't use it. Plus the large green and small lime green pack of eco tools sponges are pretty great! I would def recommend you try them! Their amazing!

Where did you store your blender when it was drying out and not in use? Just curious :-) so many people keep theirs in different places.
Not bad
I wash mines after every use... so when I here people say they don’t wash it at all that kinda scares me 😱
Just a quick note to let you know that real techniques advise you only use your sponge for 3 months before you should get a new one.
They tell you to replace them every 3 months for more sales. This is proof!

It’s nothing going on inside of it but that’s definitely mold on the outside
ur sweet
It's definitely still mold on the surface lol
she's so cyte
When that is moldy it's gonna start from the outside
Well...yeah, sponges are gonna collect mold and crap. We clean it, but then we leave it out in the open, or inside a darkened cupboard. You kept it for a really long time and kept good care, but yeah, it's GONNA collect fungus/bacteria. That's a guarantee.
😂😂
maybe it got burnt with a straightner or something
pretty sure those spots are mold
