Have you ever cut cedar like this before?

  • @craig2157

Joe, As I've said before I've learned much from you both milling and life stuff, appreciate your work. I dropped a large Western Red Cedar on my property last week, 38" base and approximately 100' tall. Got some very nice logs out of it and have cut one section into 6"x6"x12' posts to build an arbor for my grapes. I've cut several other cedars in the past and have many 9qtr slabs from a few years ago that are nicely air drying here in the NW. Most cedars in the NW start to rot in the center, you can't tell it's got until you drop it but If it's big it generally has some center rot. I have no kiln, maybe next year, but generally most cedars in my area are turned into fence boards or rough sawn 2x 4"-6" &8" boards for projects like mine. It's very expensive, fence boards can cost as much as $4 for a 5/8" thick 5.5" wide and 6' tall fence board. All boards at the improvement stores are freshly cut and never stickerd, stacks of them! It's beautiful to cut and smell, yes I sneeze as well! Take care, you look great!

Thanks for all the information Craig because with building I never really used red cedar like this that I cut. But knowing the price is what I was after. Thank you.

Hey Jo, glad to hear that the diet is working. You were talking about carrying cake icing just in case your sugar drops. You may already be aware of this but they also make glucose packets that you can carry with you for emergency situations.

I have not tried the glucose you are speaking of, but I have heard of them. My problem is always by the end of my fast, like around 12 noon until I eat by 1P. Seems like if I am working I am ok but if I am sitting talking I fall apart.

@@josaljo1 I know exactly what you mean. On the days that I am able to work, I can go most of the day without eating and feel fine. It’s the days I am not able to work that get me. If I work, I don’t get hungry but the days I don’t work, I seem to get hungry and shaky.

@@josaljo1 I read that working/working out slows down the digestive system; therefore, suppressing your appetite. It said that the body prioritizes blood flow to the working muscles and reduces the blood flow needed to aide in the digestive process. This causes you to stay full longer. On the other hand, when you are at rest, there is ample blood supply sent to the digestive system thus breaking down your food much faster and causing hunger and shakiness.

I am sorry to hear about you diabetes. I too have it. I don't require insulin injections, but I have to control mu sugar intake. I am also on arthritis meds that tend to lower my sugar levels at times, so I have to always have something sweet close by. I have gone from a hight of about 280lbs down to about 220, but wouldn't mind getting to that 199 mark. I'm 6'1" so I can carry it. Your face and neck are so much thinner. You seem to be in a very good place emotionally. How are your feet? I see that the Asian doctor put up a video that talks about heightened blood sugar in the mornings from from fasting and not to be overly concerned about it. Regardless, you are just doing great and it is a testiment to your character and will that you have stuck to this for nearly a year!!
