Cutting and Scissor Tips for Wool Work

Tips useful for improving cutting wool fabrics for wool work and wool appliqué, including types of scissors, as well as tips for how to use the scissors and hold the fabric for cutting such features as deep corners and circles. It also includes the use of freezer paper or fusible to improve accuracy and ease of cutting. Unfortunately, the use of a scissors is just 'assumed': fortunately there are many ways that can improve cutting skills and make your experience much more satisfying.

Thank you for viewing Karen and for your comment. You are so right about always realizing there is something new to be learned. I had never given cutting anything with scissors a second thought until I taught high school art -back in the 70's! - and quickly found out that if I had 30 students, there would be 30 different ways they handled the task of cutting and using a scissors!! It is something that everyone assumes we just learn as a kid. Aside from understanding different scissors, s something as simple as 'cut into the deep corners/curves' can result in a much more successful experience and nicer appliqués!

I love all my KKB’s scissors, I have neurological problems with my upper extremities from shoulder to fingertips. It is hard for me to cut with anything so my scissors are extremely important to me. Good session. Thanks for sharing

So sorry this is such a late reply - I too have some health issues that can make life a challenge sometimes. Thank you for viewing and for taking the time to comment. I think people underestimate the value of having decent quality tools and/or the right tools for them. It's good you found something to work for you!

I suppose there is a variety of scissors out there. In my videos I recommend what I find to work best and what I feel will give the stitcher the best outcome for the $. Feel free to 'advertise' other choices elsewhere.

Thank you for viewing! Always happy to share my experience...Sometimes it's the 'little things' that count....things like how to cut with a scissors!

2:40 try putting you index finger outside the metal loop near the hinge and your other 3 fingers inside the loop. Some hair cutting scissors are designed that way. ... But of course do what works for you. ❤🌅🌵

Thanks for the suggestion. Always worth a try. To give you an idea of my hand size, my ring finger is about a size 4.5-5! Generally I get by just fine but when there's several hours of cutting to do, well that's when my poor fingers end up 'dented' and totally sore and fatigued. Ha! the curse of small hands - although they do come in handy for some things. My dad always came and got me when he was fixing things and needed small hands or fingers to get into places! LOL! I'm guessing that large hands may also have problems of their own.
