    Great job. Exactly what I want to use mine for. FYI, you can use double sticky tape to hold it in place for when it cuts the item free. Less dangerous.

    Looks like a solid machine. I saw that you had to use your finger to press down on the workpiece as it was becoming detached from the frame, not sure if you were just going in for a quick test but in future you could double side tape the workpiece to the bottom.

    The trick is to use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the debris. I took a flexible hose, and set up a clamp to hold it close to the end mill. I even made a small shroud that surrounds the tool gets debris even from all around.

    I was going to say he probably gets away with it by making several passes. Do you have a veritable speed control on the motor or is it just one speed? If you can lower the RPM and increase the table feed you could make less passes. It looks like the boy is a .062 dia if you could lower the feed use a .093.

I have learnt how to use the engraver by trial and error. If you know how to locate the instruction on the disc for the laser could you point me in that direction. If not can you please assist with an explanation on how to use the laser and what other free software maybe available for the laser. The pictorials and you tube information is either in Chinese or Russian. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Bit of a problem for me. Simple explanations please as I am just a simple Non University Aussie. David.

    Acrylic typically melts when being drilled with a conventional drill bit. Why doesn't it melt when using a spindle bit, especially without coolant? I would think it would. Thanks!

  • @THOMASTHESAILOR

    @THOMASTHESAILOR

    If you watch the first few seconds of the video, before he starts the spindle, you can see, he is using a "Roughing" endmill, or some call it a "Corncob" endmill. It has bumps on it, that reduces the area of contact between the cutter and material, therefore, reduces friction/Heat. also, rpms have a lot to do with it. It's all about friction.. My cnc router won't go that slow..

    in 1/4 inch you should make a shallow roughing passing with 2 follow up depth passes and a finish path.. Speed is dificult to say with each cnc, you want to pass as fast as you can but vary your spindle speed to ensure your are not creating enough heat to melt

    +Harm Prins Exactly, that is what happen to me the acrylic or plexiglass melts and adhere to the bit. Is a special bit for doing this? How can I prevent the melted acrylic from adhere to the bit? Thanks

    Naticris Tellavi there are no special bits to cut acrilyc. you just have to keep it from melting. to produce the least heat, your bit has to be sharp, and most important, you don't want to go too fast. the faster you go, the more heat you produce. there are some great feed and speed recipes on the internet.

    +Harm Prins Thank you. I went to Dremel.com and read the description on the Tugnsten (don't know the spelling) and those bits are made to last longer and designed to produce less heat.

    I think it should not be a problem cutting it. But maybe if you have an heat gun you should follow the drill with that heat gun (It should be easier to cut). But beware of the bad smell, because it's 100% chemical

    you did this in way too many passes.. I would have used a feed rate of around 3000mm/m with a plunge rate of half that, at that rate you could definitely do it in one pass but would do 2 just to be sure of a clean finish.
