People defend Gauthier's actions by saying "He has the right". Of course he does. He made himself bigger than the team, bigger than the league without having ever proven anything. He did not act like a man. He acted like a narcissistic child. Just play for the team that drafted you. He could always force his way out when he's an RFA like DeBrincat did and Necas is doing. Also, he ghosted John LeClair and Patrick Sharp. Wouldn't even take their calls. He "has the right" to do that, but it makes him a jerk.

We need a villain in Philly. The Penguins vs Flyers rivalry has died over the years. Crosby is more respected than hated at this point in his career.

Flyers fan here. Crosby is a class act, and an elite player still. Hate him as a penguin, love him as a hockey fan. The sport is way better for him having played in the nhl.

I hope he sees all the photos of a sold out crowd showing up to watch a dev camp scrimmage today.

Ducks fan here just saying thank you to the flyers for the trade. I hope drysdale can find his footing out there. He’s got all the talent just can’t stay healthy early in his career.

In all honesty, the Flyers are a top tier organization. They are very well run and have great players and fans. Even Danny Brierre who is a top class guy was surprised and puzzled by it.

The fans will always back their team, but if Cutter wanted some NHL time and the team kept pushing back against it or worse yet made promises pre-draft they didn't keep maybe they aren't run as well as some think. It has been a half century since the team last won the cup as well. Again, fans love their teams, usually no matter what, but from the outside looking in it seems there is some work to do.

I would say he has the opposite of "a good head on his shoulders". I think his comments make it clear he didn't want to be benched. He seems to be referring to Torts benching and sending down young players like Frost, Farabee, Brink when he says he sees things the org has done. It seems short sighted though because Torts won't be the coach much longer. I am thankful Anaheim kept it quiet and put together a solid deal.

I would have believed him if Fletcher was still GM. The organization was a mess then - and it's well documented how Torts had to clean up a bunch of behind the scenes stuff there, as did Briere. But Gauthier didn't give Briere a chance. The franchise showed very clearly that it was going in a new direction. Blaming things he saw in the years before Briere on the org after Briere became GM is therefore either ignorant or a lie. And he wouldn't talk to the new administration, including some great American players. He deserves every boo he'll hear in Philly - and he'll hear plenty.

My opinion is he did not care for Danny Briere and the how situation was handled with his son’s off ice troubles, especially the wheel chair incident after getting kicked off ASU for behavior. Perhaps he had perception that his son was getting off easy, getting second and third chances and Danny did not condemn strong enough (at least publicly). This led him to believe that was a reflection of Flyers organization that he no longer wanted to be part of. I think his “multiple issues” were mostly non-hockey related and were front office people related.

I’m glad he finally said something. It sounds to me like he wanted to get to the NHL as quickly as possible with Philly. However, due to whatever reasons Philly’s front office wanted to take their time. Which is a tricky situation when you’re dealing with a #5 overall pick. Had it worked out, Philly would have Gauthier and Michkov arriving at the same time. But Cutter’s patience ran out.

Bottom line is that Cutter Gauthier wanted to play in the pros right away. Anaheim will give him that opportunity. Torts would have Gauthier rot in the minors a couple of years, learning how to block shots with his teeth. Torts is a dinosaur that will soon wear out his welcome in Philly...just like he does everywhere. Can't wait to see Torts benching Matvei Michkov for not playing defense.

I know nothing about his situation but what it sounds like is the entry level contract offered. I see that his Anaheim contract includes signing bonuses and performance bonuses. Perhaps Philly wouldn't include those bonuses. His record looks like he certainly deserves some performance bonuses for sure. But maybe Philly offered a similar contract and it's something else he was bothered by such as being told he would spend a year of 2 in the minors or something. I would love to have him on my team that's for sure.

As a lifelong Flyers fan here, we have to understand that Gauthier looked at the Flyers management much differently than we do. He is 20 years old, so that means he was 6-7 years old the last time the Flyers were relevant. He saw a dysfunctional ownership and management last year that has missed the playoffs now 7 of the last 11 years.
