❗ BACKINGS FOR TEDDY BEAR SQUARE: Please refer to the free written pattern on how to make backings for your teddy bear squares. The finished size of this bear crochet baby blanket is 28.5” x 28.5” (72 x 72 cm) approximately.
In part one of this tutorial, I’ll show you how to crochet the teddy bear square, how to make the snout and embroider the little nose and eyes. You will make 13 of the teddy bear squares for your blanket.
To make your crochet squares you will be working in the round. You can start your work by either:
1. Making a magic circle or
2. Chain 4, then slip stitch to the first chain to form a circle.
IMPORTANT: If you choose method 1, make sure that you securely weave in the yarn tail to ensure that the middle of your square does not unravel.
To join my squares, I used the flat slip stitch seam. You can see the tutorial here:

This is an easy crochet tutorial and as long as you know how to work the following stitches, you will have no problem in making up this bear crochet baby blanket :
ch(s) - chain(s)
dc - double crochet
dc2tog - double crochet two together (also known as a dc decrease)
EXdc- Extended Double Crochet (I’ll explain this stitch in the tutorial - it's very easy!)
hdc - half double crochet
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
st(s) - stitch(es)
MATERIALS USED (AFFILIATE LINKS):
🔹Yarn: #3 (fine) / DK / 8 ply. I used Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6: 2 balls in the colour beige (004); 7 balls in the colour baby blue (032); 1 ball in the colour white (001). To embroider the nose and eyes you’ll need some scrap worsted / aran weight yarn in the colour black.
🔹SUBSTITUTE YARN: #3 (fine) / DK / 8 ply. I’ve also made this blanket using Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK; 7 balls in the colour Summer Sky Blue (463); 1 ball in the colour Paper White (401); 2 balls in the colour Light Caramel (409) www.lovecrafts.com/en-us/p/pa...
To embroider the nose and eyes you’ll need some scrap yarn from 1 ball of Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in the colour Pure Black (602) www.lovecrafts.com/en-us/p/pa...

The last baby in my family was 34 years ago so I've had no reason to crochet this beautiful blanket but now that 34 year old is going to have a baby of her own. You can guess what the first blanket is going to be that I make for her.

I'm pregnant with my first baby ❤️ I don't know what I'm having yet so I went with a darker gray with sparkles in it. I love it! This is probably the easiest tutorial I have ever followed. I have been crocheting for years and I have tried many different projects to try to find my niche in the crochet universe. I was NEVER good at sewing pieces together (amigurumi) or sewing appliques on to items. With your step by step tutorial and with your awesome tips, I learned how to do things I never knew! I LOVE Granny Squares and that is mainly what I make so now feel so thrilled to be able to make something new with them! Thank you for the awesome videos and tutorials!

Love this pattern, I've have never attempted a granny square before but you make it look so easy and we have a little one due in may so I'll have planty if time to do this one. I was looking at your diagram on your written pattern and can you just confirm you did 13 bear squares and 12 solid ones?

You really do take time to explain every stitch you do and I found it amazing that you also included how your instructions would read on a pattern. Your voice is so relaxing also and you work at a pace that I can work to. I am so happy I have found you and look forward to making one of these blankets for my neice. Thank you

@@MaisieandRuth i agree I've been crocheting since I'm 8 years old my grandmother taught me and I'm now in my 50's your tutorials are fantastic and your voice is so nice to listen too thank you ... i just subscribed to your channel and I'm going to make this blanket in between the one I'm working on now .. I'm doing a "zoo animal" pattern I'm going to start this i have some #3 bernat baby cotton lavendar and a very very light tan thank you

I'm am Almont completed this blanket I love it. Had a little set back I had a stroke in October I have swelling and brain bleed. I have paralysis! I had to learn how to use left side of my body and learning to reuse my left hand! Little challenging but it's been good sensory brain physical therapy holding the tapestry needle. I made the bear 🐻 booties. All I have to do is put all the squares together and the border. I'm extremely excited to complete it. Thank you Amanda for the clear and step by step teaching on your tutorial videos. You rock.
