Hey, you go with your experience and gut feelings. No spotter? You did the right thing. It’s not an issue of not wanting to help, but the homeowner wanted curbside delivery. Going back and forth costs….as almost everything nowadays. If you go off the road…then what. Easy for, others to say just back up but until you own your own delivery service…well you know the rest. ✌️

I don’t understand the lack of communication with the customer. It appears to me when you get on site to make your delivery the details were not discussed at all. I don’t understand. It’s as if you are afraid to speak directly to the customer because it will cause a confrontation? That attitude brings a self fulfilling prophecy. You got their phone number on the bill of lading? Use it. Stop being stand -off-ish with your deliveries. You are guessing where you set down your deliveries that is so unprofessional. Lead the conversation. Smile on the phone. Speak, call, text! Do something! Tell the customer you can bring the pallets up to the house for $200 Or tell the there is a risk of them set in the wrong spot so would you mind to spray an X or post a sign where you want them dropped. Tell them if it’s not curbside there is a small fee. Again, what is with the lack of communication and the lack of details for deliveries where you consider yourself professional. High levels of communication = professional delivery. Understand this is corrective criticism and has no malice. I’m trying to help… that’s all. I’m in transportation and tips are not part of my pay but I get them all the time because I’m THE BEST! If I going to make a living at Transportation I going to be the best. My customers call my boss to compliment my customer service even though all that I am paid to do is drive door to door. BE THE BEST!

I can go all the way back to the early 80s with stories just like what this customer was trying to do. Back then my family owned a retail lumberyard. Customers could pick up material at the yard or if they bought enough, delivery would be free to their property. If it was below a certain amount, a deliver fee was added. If they wanted the material carries to the back yard, an additional fee. Otherwise it was dropped wherever the truck could get close to. Shingle and sheetrock loads were done with a boom truck and if the contractor wanted the boom to be used to bring the material to the 2nd floor or roof, an extra fee was charged. If they didn't want to pay, it was set on the ground. Sadly, today people want to get a premium service and not pay for it. They need to read the invoice terms.

Smart move, if you had backed your rig down that asphalt road and sunk anywhere they'd have had a cow. Probably okay in winter, but definitely happens in summer. The customer could have parked a flatbed trailer right there where you offloaded and that would have been 🤓 smart. Great video...

@@2pugman I’d be happy to pay a extra $100 dollars rather than having to move it all myself that’s to much labour especially how long the driveway is. Several years ago I was dry walling my basement and ordered 50 sheets of drywall it was $70 for delivery but get this for a extra $40 they would unload it and take it down into your basement for you that was a no brainer money well spent. If people want something other than curb side delivery there’s a fee involved simple as that. Especially a 2km long driveway ?

Mike, i feel like if the contract the customer has paid for a curbside delivery and the driveway or even a side street driving a moffett 2 miles can be dangerous for you and some people don't think what these delivery drivers go though to pick up orders or deliver the orders sometimes going out of the way for customers can be done it the conditions are acceptable if a driveway is short then I think that putting in the driveway be acceptable but if it's a long driveway and there's no where to turnaround then maybe just leave it curbside or further down the road

I can relate! 24 years I hauled dirt, sand, gravel, hot asphalt etc. etc. I can’t even begin to describe how unreasonable people can be. Even though they will have a skid steer or tractor to move the material around they still want you to pinpoint a pile of sand on a dime. A lifelong resident of the retirement capital of the United States here in Florida, I’m glad to see that the unreasonable northerners are just as abundant up there as they are here. When I was hauling, it was not uncommon to have property owners as well as contractors try to have us back between narrow, gaps in Form boards and concrete footers to dump the load within the foundation of a new build when they were going to bring in equipment to spread the material anyway.

Pretty much the same everywhere in the US I have worked & 95% of all dump drivers do it with absolutely no issues at all . . . . because that's what the company you are hauling for agreed to with the road or building contractor and that's what everyone in the industry does. I have worked as an equipment operator in several states over the last 40 years and I have been truly amazed at some of the places a good dump driver can get into and out of without getting stuck and how evenly a skilled one can spread a load of gravel or millings. On the other hand, I am also amazed at how many of them have no clue how the drive lock system in their own truck works and how many of them can repeatedly get stuck on dry, level, compacted millings or lime rock.

The issue is that he does not want to drive that far, the issue is he was hired to do curbside delivery and the amount of time to take several pallets 1/2 mile round trip would take quite a bit of time. Taking too much time would in turn: a) throw out the delivery window for every other drop off that day and b) he has a boss to report to whom would be quite angry with too much time spent on a single delivery. :)

I can understand that you're fulfilling your obligation for curbside delivery, that's completely fair. However, for customers such as this (with very long driveways), and in the interest of getting paid for your time and making some extra money, perhaps you can offer a "curb to house" add-on charge that the customer could elect to pay? I completely agree, however, with not placing the materials inside garages. etc, as there's definitely some risks involved in that.

That way you pocket an extra $200 and you dont inccur any additional liability. Otherwise, the material is gonna sit on the curb and they can figure it out from there. Unless the customer has a tractor w/ loader, im gonna guess 90% of the customers will take you up on the offer.

Who cares if it’s curbside, just deliver it to where they want it? It’s called customer service, if you wanna complain and start bitching they will say bad reviews of you

You keep talking like you need to be the one who justifies it. Taking the load all the way to the house would turn a 20 minute job into an hour and a 15 minutes. The question is whether or not your boss wan't to have you there that long or not.

TRUE, and I'm curious to see where Curb to Curb is written. Obviously the customer doesn't have it in writing or see it or is playing dumb. Which is it. Why doesn't the driver show the clause where it is WRITTEN??? To end the arguing with a customer.

I never heard in my life time of curbside delivery, but I guess you have that for your organization. If I were that person I would never hire you guys in the first place, I would get someone who delivers and puts valuable materials where I can keep a eye on them. This guy is stupid! Every time I get delivery, they put it where I need it to be, I only want to move it once not twice. Sorry!

Love the show but this time you could have called in for a better spot. It seemed "random" location to drop those off at. I mean the customer's first thoughts are gonna be.... "Why here????" No landmarks (except a No Trespassing sign I believe). Put it by the trash can it makes someone think they may be disposing of it... (would be a bad idea there). Here is a positive suggestion.... I've seen this done on another Trucker's channel but he does it for work maybe only 5% of the time.... rest seems for viewpoint. Get a DRONE with a camera and you can scout the road for a perfect spot. Fly it in and that's your spotter... no need even leaving the truck. You sit and watch the camera and BAM... found a spot. Its what I'd do... No need to walk or drive into potentially dangerous areas... let the drone do the work

Do not pay for curbside delivery if you want site delivery. If you want it at the site, just make sure to pay for it. Why would a stranger do anything for free? The delivery driver is not a charity. He works for money and his effort is worth money. You pay for the bare minimum, you get the bare minimum. If you demend more then you pay more. You get what you PAY for.

I used to like this dude, but I swear to God he is the biggest crybaby. Like what’s the big deal drive the material damage driveway man come on I used to deliver with a Moffett. I would bring it as far as I could. That’s all right one day he’s gonna be the customer and he’s gonna need that little extra mile and somebody’s gonna tell him go ask himself.

We used to like you.... for the same reason we thought you knew that these delivery times eat into our day and add soo much time and inconvenience that it isn't accounted for on a regular delivery. Imagine it being peak spring time and you have 10-17 deliveries a day and 4-6 different pick up locations that almost aren't ever ready. Load times are unpredictable. But you are expected to make up for loss time, where? Drive time? We aren't time travelers.... un strapping time? Possibly a couple of minutes. Actual delivery time? 2Miles to drive with a forklift for delivery when it's supposed to be curbside or a reasonable length driveway. 🤔
