Custom Vintage Schrade Deerslayer

My fathers favorite knife was lost in a kitchen drawer for 2 decades. It was the knife that carved the turkey for Thanksgiving throughout my childhood. I couldn't resist restoring this 80's Deerslayer.

I like a knife to maintain some history, restorations like this erase previous owners and the knife becomes soulless.

Understood. You have a very good point. I have an ancient Chinese General's Sword that my father wanted me to restore in memory of my grandfather; a general in the Chinese military. After many months deciding on its fate, I chose to leave it pitted and distressed. As for this particular knife... my father is the original owner of this knife. The history remains in our hands and will always be remembered as the sharpest knife in the drawer for Thanksgiving.... just with a real wooden handle vs its factory plastic handle. Thanks for watching.

It was used a lot outdoors when my father had it decades ago. When I was a child, I had fond memories of my father using it to cut the turkey for Thanksgiving Day. I remade it so that it can be used again, pretty enough, for special holidays. I can always buy a new Deerslayer to punish for under $30 if I needed to. This one is now an heirloom.

Truth be known, I cringed slightly when I saw the original nickel silver compression rivets being drilled out of a USA Schrade but the final results were respectable.

Thank you. Yes, taking apart a classic and an heirloom was a bit scary for me. Thanks for watching.
