Good idea with the strut, keen to hear feedback once you start using it. I built a rear bar during the Lockdown last year and know how much work and thinking can go into it! Keep up the good work it’s great to see a like minded thinking process!!

Just finished my rear bar. Same concept just did a couple things different. The carrier is attached to the door with heim joints so there is no play. I then put a block of foam between the carrier and the door so it's compressed when closed. I also removed the limit thing so I can open the door all the way and then put a gas strut on the carrier. So the door and carrier open as one and stay open with the strut. Not sure how to post pics....

That’s the go. Sounds like exactly the same as my last rear bar minus the gas strut on the bottom.

mobility scooters have short shocks, might be an option for the swing away maybe. love ya work still

I have just come accross your site and wish to ask you, 1. where in Vic are you ?, 2. as I have an issue with my car spare tire swing bar as it hits the gas bottles on the camper. Without doing toooooo much what are the odds of putting the gas bottles either 1 or both on a swing bar on the camper and moving them out of the way when I need to open the back of the car?

Surely put gas struts in the swing always. My Raslar bar has gas struts on it and it is a true delight. I can get the specs if your interested.

@@DanielKistler McNaightans Pty 330mm, dia: 8-18, 450nm. Better than rooting around with a pin on the opposite side of the tyre IMO!

havd you considered mounting the door end of the gas strut to a pivot on a rail bolted to the rear door? the rail would allow the door end pivot to change position left to right, but may be tight enough to stop fwd/rear movement being a strut?

Would have to be a pretty tight rail so you didn’t get any movement. Could run into binding issues. I had the smallest amount of movement in the hiem joints and it drove me insane haha

@@DanielKistler yeh fair call, it was just a thought i had as you were explaining the setup.I bet a beadlocked 37 is gonna flog out any setup thats got even the tinyest bit of play. keep up the good work buddy.

Hey just had a thought... Rather than leaning on the wheel, you could push the strut back a little so that when you lock it, it compresses the strut...?

Not a bad idea. But will still have to lean on it a bit because of the flex in it all. Closing from the bottom and gas strut in the top

Will also loose the distance the seperate when opening. Making them closer together which my have them hit each other and it’s harder to get the bin bag on haha

Make a backwards letter C and mount to the 4 bolts on door.

Is the strut now in the way of the shovel? As it passes from one side to the other when it opens and closes?

Sure is haha. I did mention I will move the shovel to the other side of the box section to get it out of the way

I'd make it to the end even if it was 2 hours of you talking shit in the shed tbh, hahahah it's good watching someone with half a brain who's not getting paid to say shit too
