He could just fish the bolts in and face them up. They make wires that are wound the same thread pitch for bolts then you just pull the wire though and pull the bolt in. I have installed a bunch of 5th wheel hitches and the kits come with the wires to fish bolts into frame members.

Love the progress! One word about the 1310 and the jet pump. The engine needs to have a minimum angle(crank) of 2* compared to the jet drive shaft. Otherwise the U-joints will wear unevenly and will fail prematurely. Ask Finnegan too, he'll confirm

the steal bolts going into the aluminum will be your problem, they WILL bond with the aluminum, very fast when wet. Maybe you need to put on a sacrificial anode by the engine mounts. Just to be sure the bolts will not bond with the aluminum. They will break when removing them in as few as one year. Ask any boat owner. Sacrificial Anode will stop that and its cheap insurance.

Definitely should do some billet aluminum mounts for jet boat engine. Look up galvanic corrosion. You'd be surprised how fast it'll corrode especially with salt water. You don't want to have to replace the bottom of the boat in a couple years

  • @BUD420MAN

I wonder if a sacrificial zinc rod would help or some kind of dielectric grease would help. ZINC anodes for Salt water. Magnesium for Fresh water. IF not its going to get fun really quickly. You see when the corrosion starts to show, in a few months, little problems with the ground between the engine and boat hull will start. Some times the ground can burn through the aluminum, but mostly the SHOCKS will start. Kyle will have wet feet touching the hull of the boat, and then touch anther part of the boat like say the wheel and get shocked, people will start to notice a shock when walking up and touching the boat, even swimmers when grabbing the boat will get a shock. Then there is the removing of the steal bolts from the aluminum. In less then a year, without anodes, there will be no removing the bolts. they will break. Look at my back ground pic, tell me how i know, been boating all my life. No replacement for piratical experience. I have anodes on my truck, because it has Aluminum touching steal. I guess manufactures did not listen to the guy talking about galvanic corrosion.

I'd cut out the thin top and sides of those floor frame channels an inch or 2 longer than the mounts, then drop in some solid billet rectangles the thickness/size of the OG brace. Weld em in place then tap into the thick stuff like you had mentioned... Easy Peasy and much more solid transfer of energy to the bottom and less chance of vibration issues / weld fractures.

If you have any issues. You should mill aluminum sqaure blocks to bottom mounts to use with the same width as you motor side mounts that way you can weld the aluminum bottom halves right to the boat . It would be super easy to make them and use them with the top half of the mounts you have already made.

Love the jet boat build series. I would like to suggest another idea for the motor mounts. instead of drilling and tapping thin aluminum stringers, look into installing a heavy duty nutsert rivits. I use these in body up fitter shop i manage, and they hold great

I love the fact that your k swapping a jet boat when most just convert from other water craft, same as the Sandrail v6 honda engine making far more power and torque than most side-by-sides with more suspension travel aswell. You can buy something but converting these things with engines that can easily make crazy power even in boosted stock form is far more fun and offers more speed and ideas down the line.

From the research many have done it's been documented that the pump uses CAN network to work at 100%. With just ignition only like Kyle and many have done makes the pump work in limp mode which just works at 70%. Enough to work for many however it's the CAN input the only fix for this pump to work as intended.

For the engine mount to boat frame fasteners, maybe consider some threaded inserts. The type that are installed like a rivet. They would have much better thread engagement. Also, installing a zinc anode will help protect from galvanic corrosion, from the steel/aluminum contact.

You could always cut out the sections below the mounts and weld nuts to the underside of the plates with a plate wedged and welded in between the 4 nuts across the center, then weld the nutted plates back into the boat. This will give you more threads for the mount-boat bolts and the plate wedged between the 4 nuts will aid in stopping the welds holding the nuts on from cracking or breaking because the nut will be pressing up against the plate, insurance so you never have to cut those plates back out to reweld the nuts on.

I'm a welder fabricator for almost 20 years, and I used to work for a company that did kingpins and all sort of attachments for trucks. When we had to joint parts made from steel, to parts made from aluminum, we were laying duct tape on one of the surface before sandwiching the 2 parts together, this way we were avoiding corrosion between the 2! Steel in contact with aluminum in salt environment will just make both metals rott! You should definitely use this route. It's simple and will save you lots of headaches and time in the future! Also for the engine mounts, you could simply scribe around the steel squares, remove the engine, cut the square holes and then insert 1/2" or 1" thick blocks inside the holes that you could weld solid and safely tap. IMO tapping engine mounts in 1/4" thick aluminum is borderline solid enough!

Kyle, it’s best practice to have 1-1/2x the bolt diameter has your thread depth. So if you are planning to use a 3/8”diameter bolt then you will need about .518” of formed thread for the bolt to engage into. If possible a nut on the backside would be better than only have 2-3 threads engaging on each bolt. And it would not be surprising to see the aluminum frame rail fail quickly putting torque to that thin material. A nutsert is actually probably the easiest and not a bad solution at this point. But I’d recommend rebuilding your mount to be able to spread your load down the frame rails with thicker material that you can run a proper thread into. Best of luck! 👍

Get a full set of EBC Red break pads for the Porsche . They work great and will cut way down on the break dust that you are getting on your rims. As for the engine mounts for the boat, You can simply remake the lower portion of the mount out of Aluminum. The rubber will isolate the steel portion from touching the aluminum portion. So just aluminum stands that can be welded directly to the boats hull or bolted if you prefer to have them removable.

I can’t believe I am gonna say this but Wyatt’s watchful eyes… he has changed soooo much with the move to Florida, back in Colorado he was always obnoxious and loud but holy shit. This man has upped the game for the whole boostedboiz program, Kyle never changes he just wants to go fast. And now he will

Hyumdai excel pump is the most used for LS setups, you need to just strap or weld on some hold points for the driveshaft on the van, you're fighting the torque so hold is back.

Kyle have you thought about cutting up an old innertube and using it between the mount and the boat? Possibly a little vibration dampening and it will keep the steel and aluminum from touching.

Cayman has always been a favorite of mine since NFSMW 2005. Flat 6's just sound cool too. Always thought it'd be the perfect daily sports car, low but modest HP on a chassis that was built with tracks in mind. They're pretty reliable as far as German cars go too. They all always end up with electronic issues more than anything, but Porsche, Merc, and VW are generally mechanically stout. Rarely ever blow up even if you just do the necessary maintenance. Oil changes in 4000-5000 mile intervals. Little things like spark plugs, filters, etc. Fill up with Shell Premium now and again, run it for at least 1500 miles. Literally cleans the inside of your engine and injectors. Goes a long way with these cars. I've owned Mercs and seen Porsche's with 300k and over, with little ever done to them, no engine swaps, just regular maintenance. They maintain their power well too. Might only see a 10-20 hp drop over that many miles, pretty impressive.

Water to water heatexchanger so you can run it in salt forever. And you could still notch under the the engine mounts and add some thicker material, just make sure its flush.

Hoping you read this..,Scatter-shield !!! For the jetboat! That exposed flywheel/driveshaft is a little sketch. I’d also put a carbon steel plate beneath that rotating assembly to keep it from punching a hole in the hull if it comes apart.

Gonna lead to a bunch of sick days lol, I definitely have some concerns for those mounts not corrosion, but I feel like the aluminum is going to stress crack. That motor is a 4 banger with it's inherent vibrations I think the aluminum needs to be beefed up for sure

McMaster Carr has rivnuts that you can put in the aluminum, to have some legit threads in that aluminum. Give you something really substantial to mount that engine to. Boat looks SIC though!!
