Custom Keyboard Cables - What You Should Know (Mechanical Keyboards)

Here's an overview of the parts and thought process that goes into custom keyboard cables. Also shared a few examples of how I go about the color matching / cable design process.

I have seen LTT do a custom built USB-C cable, as well as PC cables, just today, and they said that you could do USB-C to USB-C cable as well, although they were focusing on a 2.0 cable, and I was wondering if you have made a C to C cable, and if you have used it, and also if you are proficient in it? I'm looking for a video on that specifically, to find what is needed, and maybe try it myself, but can only find videos about A to C cables, unless they are the aviator style, then there might be some...

The YT algorithm is a good boi....I just got into the rabbit hole of making my own keyboards, to have something to do while, y’know, the ˋrona is going on outside and I am stuck inside. So I have soldered a bunch of keyboards and started looking for something else to do. And right then I got this is my recommendations. This turns out to be a very promising new rabbit hole to dive into and I thank you for this, from the bottom of my heart. It is neat projects like this that help me stay sane amidst all the insanity that’s been going on.

I just finished watching this and most of your other videos. Thanks for the great guides! Where do you buy your heat shrink(US)? I've been looking all over for a purple/lavender 1/2" without labeling down the length of it. What about the 1/8" shimmer tech flex? Would you consider making a tutorial for sleeving cables with transitioning colors of paracord?

Oddly enough, no one's mentioning these coils actual having a certain function. Just like them on wired phones, they let you gain wire length and not be wrapped in excessive wire when it's not in use. May even be beneficial for your desktop organisation as well.

The heat shrink bothers me. It isn't the best strain relief for the cable. It should be replaced with an overloaded strain relief, but I am assuming the reason why it isn't is because this is very low volume; therefore, it isn't cost efficient. But if a legit manufacture just put heat shrink, then I would be bothered.

Just tell people not to buy keyboards with a cable that can be unplugged. Moving the keyboard around will break the port and make the whole keyboard unusable. A few months for me. on a steelseries.
