    I have the sister to this kit, The AMT Chevy Bison in 1/25. I haven't started on it yet, but when I do, I plan on adding some upright supports to mount some scratch build diamond plate car ramps and pairing it with the Revell Auto Transport Trailer, also in 1/25, to make a " portable parking lot " as the rigs are known, I'll be doing the build on my channel when I get to it.

    Your thumbnail says it's a 1/24th model, but it's clearly a 1/25th according to the box. AMT don't make any 1/24th truck or car kits that I know of, unless they've reboxed an old Monogram kit or some other brand. Regardless of the scale, you did a nice job on this truck. The colour looks great on it.

    Wow!!! Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't catch that. I looked it up on scalemates.com and it looks like this kit has always been a AMT kit. The first issue of it was in 1978. I'll have to update that thumbnail when I get a chance. Thanks for compliments, I really like how the colors came out as well. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend.

    @@PlasticImaginationWorkshop No problem. I had to go back and watch some of it again to see what colour you did the roof, fenders and fuel tanks. It looks a bit like copper to me. I've got some nice copper paint that I used on the hull of the Cutty Sark, and I was thinking of painting a car or truck with it. It came out a bit darker than your truck, but I think it might lighten up if I put it over something other than gloss black. I think the warped plastic is a common thing on some of these old moulds. I'm building several 50 year old kits from my father's stash, and they all have badly warped parts and lots of flash, sink holes, ejector pin marks, seams and parts that just don't fit.

    For that color on my kit, I sprayed a base coat of gold and then went over it with Tamiya's clear orange. have fun building those vintage kits. @@davidorr6627

    I've been custom building truck models well into 50 years now and I can tell you, it wasn't just your kit that had fit issues and warpage, nearly all AMT truck kits have issues, AMT did more great subjects than anyone on the planet but fell short on quality fitting kits. You did a great job on this truck, I've built many of these and yes, the motor is the best part of this kit.

  • @PlasticImaginationWorkshop

    I agree with you 100% They have the best selection but the quality is where they come up short. It's not just their truck models, it's the cars as well. That Popper Pinto I built a while back was horrible. But, that's all part of model building. Thanks for watching, have a great week.

    I'm backing you up on this, my hood and frames had some pretty significant warping as well. I think our modeling history may be quite similar as well (better part of 50 years building as well (I started around 7). I agree 100%, AMT had a GREAT variety of subjects but did has some QA issues with some kits.

    So honestly I've been fighting through this one. The warped bits everywhere are making me go crazy.... trying way to hard to get to perfect. At this point i just need to get paint laid down on the hood (again) give up on lining up the passenger side where ive debated cutting off the edge to line up thr hood better (the casting flash on this thing is ridiculous). Anyway i have put it back in the box 5 times now. Its time to finish this thing.

    I feel your pain.... We have all been there; just have to push through sometimes. One thing I do is remind myself that this will 'eventually' look great on the shelf, and most likely, no one is ever going to see the small issues or misalignments once it's done. Unless we point them out to folks, which I try really hard not to do. That said, it can be hard when the issues are really bad and staring you in the face, like the hood not aligning with the cab; hard to miss that. Also, this is the sort of problem-solving needed for building these kits with issues like this. Look at it as a challenge, then see what creative way you can come up with to make it work. That seems to work for me, most of the time, but I also have several kits that have gone 'back in the box.' Try to remember, this is a hobby, and we do it for 'fun.' Yeah, said nobody who has built any of these kits. Keep on trucking, have fun with it, and you'll get there. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great weekend.

    Your build looks fantastic, you really overcame some obstacles on this kit. As far as AMT branded kits go, I've had very good experiences with the W925 and K123 as well as their Peterbilts and Diamond Reo/Autocar/White-Western star kits. I think the issues with the General are mainly due to age (not much to be done about that), Overall, I am GLAD that @round2 have brought all of these kits back. Thanks for the video, you have reassured me that it wasn't my ability slipping away.

    I have a sizeable stash of AMT truck models, including a few that are ERTL, prior to the AMT merger. The Ertl kits build fairly well, the AMT kits ... good grief, what is wrong with those people? I've been told that "they just take a little extra time," but I may not live long enough to sort them out.

    I totally agree with you. I think it all comes down to quality control in most situations. I don't know where they are actually producing the kits these days but I have received more kits in better quality from Atlantis. They produce there kits here in the states and feel they have better quality control. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching. Have a great week.

    Man I really enjoy your videos, do you have any advice for dry brushing like an old paint brush cause I always put way to much paint down and does air brushing put off as much fumes as rattle cans thanks in advance

  • @PlasticImaginationWorkshop

    @PlasticImaginationWorkshop

    7 ай бұрын

    Hello, and thanks for watching! I'm delighted that you're enjoying the channel. For dry brushing, here's a quick tip: aim to have the brush look dry before touching the model. To test, brush the top of your thumb-if you don't see any paint come off, you're on the right track. Now, onto airbrushing and fumes. In short, airbrushing produces far fewer fumes compared to a rattle can. However, keep in mind that you're still dealing with tiny paint particles in the air. Even when using acrylics, it's a good practice to ventilate your space or wear an appropriate mask, or both. I hope these tips are helpful for your painting endeavors. Have a fantastic week, and once again, thanks for tuning in!

You can pick these up at most hobby stores or online. Here is an Amazon link to the first one. www.amazon.com/Extra-Thin-Cement-40-ml/dp/B07D3ZRM7M/ref=sr_1_6?sr=8-6 I also use super glue which can be purchased pretty much everywhere.
