Custom Foodscaping Does Ferro-cement
The Custom Foodscaping team has been experimenting with alternative raised bed materials, inspired by our friends at @hatchetnseed
Ferro-cement is a construction method using cement coated over a metal mesh lathe. Once the concrete dries, it’s painted with an iron oxide pigment for an earthy orange hue.
We’re excited about using ferro-cement because it allows for curvy, more organic shapes. Unlike traditional wood raised beds which wear out over a decade, these concrete beds will stand the test of time!
What do you think? Do you love the look of ferro cement bed as much as we do?
Thanks to our foodscape designer Ryan @magnoliaprovisions for this video!

Great job
So very cool!!! Love this! Very interesting method, I like that it’s not as heavy or hard to demo as it would be if this was an Earthbag structure with concrete.
Very interesting and creative. Also inspiring. Not just a food source, but something very pleasant to look at.
What are you using as the initial wall substrate? I see you are not using metal lathe, so I am wondering what the cement is sticking to. Thanks in advance.
I would love to see more about these Ferro cement beds! I want to put some in but have not found much about them online
