FINISHING our OFF GRID DIY ferrocement pallet workshop shed! | Budget Pallet Workshop Build Ep 5
After living two years off-grid, it was finally time to upgrade our workshop and create some order with our tools and our workflow. The original idea was to simply ferrocement over our existing hoop house and have a small enclosed space for tools… unfortunately, after a catastrophe, we changed directions and decided to build out the FULL workshop shed of our dreams. To up the difficulty, I was on a tight budget, forcing the use of mostly the salvage and reclaimed materials we had existing on the property. The project was almost entirely a solo, one-man build since the majority of our eco-residence crew had left for the summer… and I had 3 weeks to get it built.
So much learning came out of this build. It was a weird one but a fun one! Hope you enjoy it.

What is the black material behind the wire on the top half of the building?

How far does one bag of Portland cement go? Trying to do some math for myself. How many batches of the mixer does it take to get through a bag of Portland? Rough estimate is totally fine. Is it 4x4 (16 sqft)? Or more? Thanks!

I didn't really count, but my guess would be one bag did about 6 batches. Depending on thickness and how much spacing you have in your lath one batch on the low end would do probably 4x4. When it's a top coat it was probably doing 10x5

@@TerraformTogether awesome thanks for responding!
Some videos you have a lot of helpers, this one looks like you are alone. Am I missing something?

Things typically slow down here during the summer. No one wants to be in Sothern Arizona when it's 105* out. So this was a solo build.
What's the logic behind security cameras? Robbers are stupid, not wearing masks? And if they are with mask, isn't the camera perfect attraction to steal first? Just curious.. I am trying to think from the robber point of view.

"Locks only keep honest men honest". A battery powered angle grinder is going to get through just about any lock in about 1 minute. The cameras are a deterrent not a prevention. And I put out a lot of fake cameras in obvious places as a deterrent. The real cameras are pretty well hidden and all back up to a cloud storage device.
