Curtiss Robin Test Flight
Ойын-сауық
Kermit Weeks test flies his wonderfully restored 1927 Curtiss Robin model B on a sunny morning at Fantasy of Flight.
The Robin is a cabin monoplane with a wooden wing and steel tubing fuselage. The cabin can accommodate three people; two passengers seated side-by-side behind the pilot.

Ahhhh the life of a test pilot! Great job Kermie!
A true beauty with a great sound. :) PS nice job putting her back on the ground!
I don't ythink Kermits eyes were that big when he flew the Gee Bee. You could see him calm down once back over the run way. Love that plane.
My favorite plane of this era.
Guessing these are the kind of glitches that Douglas Corrigan ran into trying to get Sunshine certified for the transatlantic flight. Just glad he made it, the odds were not in his favor. Great piece of history, thanks.
That plane sure is a beauty!😀
My Grand Father soloed in that very Curtiss Robin on April 29, 1934 in Waco, Tx
Excellent film footage, commentary and sound.
Fist thing I thought when I saw it was "That garden shed's got wings stuck to it!" :D
Thank you for keeping aviation history alive. I hope to make it to Fantasy of Flight some day soon.
I used to love planes from this era -the Lindbergh era.
Un magnifique Curtiss Robin, à part quelque problème technique les yeux experts de Kermit est heureusement toujours là!!!
Sweet little plane. Looks like a school bus with wings.
I really loved the flight. Wonderful. Congratulations Kermit.
It's like someone put wings on a pickup cab, fascinating.
Despite a few problems, it looked marvellous anyway.
Kermit is such a great guy, hate to see his facility shut down :( can't wait for the re-open though
My dad and some of his friends found a rare 4 seat radial engine Curtiss Robin in a 'barn find' in Gainesville, FL back in the 50s. They did a total restoration and sold it before I was born (but I have some pictures). I think it is in North Carolina now.
OMG, you got one of those! :)
Interesting that the engine is liquid cooled!! Neat stuff Kermit!! You should make a video about your aerobatic career as you are one of the legends of competition aerobatics!
Great Video Kermit, I wondered where that aircraft ended up.
If your compass malfunctions you may find yourself in Dublin Ireland like Douglas (wrong-way) Corrigan.
Hi Kermit.........your just having too much fun my friend.....lol
Such a beautiful airplane, too bad it doesn't get flown more often!
That OX-5 engine was 20 dollars in 1919. Narrow flying window indeed.
Kermit! Plannng on a NY to LA Flight via Ireland are we? :D:D:D
I just love this aeroplane. It steeps character and I want to make an eight foot span model of it. The cowl will easily hide the motor Where can I obtain drawings of the original please?
Please give us an update!
Test flights are designed to find problems. A successful one returns the problems to base intact. That's a lot of machine to be dragged around by a nominal 90hp.
Where the white puffs of smoke coming from the left set of exhausts relevant? Since that's a liquid cooled engine I wondered if you had a head gasket leak.

smoke probably because the carb was still set on auto rich

John Hettish White smoke is mostly an indication of getting some oil into the combustion chambers though it could also mean coolant also. Could be getting past the piston rings or perhaps a cracked piston. Maybe they'll do an update on what happened with the engine to be so slack on power.

In my experience, white = water, blue = oil and black (dark grey) = fuel. So based on THIS video evidence, I would say, water ingress on the left bank; and not all of the left bank either. Witness the intermittent smoke puffs. Regards Mark in the UK
I guess we know why so many Curtiss Robins have radial engines.
Droool.....
