The Mists were a fun way to begin the adventure. Each character was in their realm doing what they do, saving the day or visiting the local brothel. I let my players choose what they were doing. Then The Mists came and took them away. This led them to Barovia and the beginning of the Death House adventure in Appendix B in the Curse of Strahd book.
