Noam Chomsky is sometimes referred to as “the father of modern linguistics”, is a political activist, cognitive scientist, linguist, and philosopher who currently holds joint appointments at MIT and UofA. He is the author of over 100 books and generally considered one of the greatest living public intellectuals as well as being one of the most cited scholars in history. His most recent book, Yugoslavia: Peace, War, and Dissolution, is a collection of his previously published essays on that country. In the book, Chomsky reflects on the way international politics has affected Yugoslavia over the past 25 years and what it means for the global socio-economic landscape.

I don't quite know how to describe it, but Chomsky seems a lot more lively and awake here compared to other interviews in the recent past. Of course it's inevitable that in old age we all slow down to some degree in our thinking and processing and whatnot. And that has stuck out to me in the recent past. However here he reminds me much more of himself from the late 90s or early 2000s than someone of his age now. I hope this is a sign he's healthy and he'll be here for at least a few more years. The world needs him. Thanks for this interview.

I noticed the exact same thing. Maybe he's just in a good mood? having a good day? is on some health kick? is more relaxed around a friendly face whom he has good rapport with? Or maybe he finally got a good sleep lol And/or all of the above. Either way, it give me renewed hope that he will be around years longer. P.S If chomsky did actually get fit and healthy, the guy could probably live to well over a 100.

Krauss, I’ve always liked. I tried to read his phd paper, but it was beyond me. But he has a very humble approach. He lets people speak and asks old questions, and doesn’t seem to pretend to know more than he does about other topics. Origins Project is a worthwhile endeavor.

Thank you Noam and Lawrence for this. As an Iranian I see the issue in Iran to be multi-dimensional. It's true that the policy of the US is to put sanction to bring about change from within the Iranian society, however as you've mentioned this pressure is breaking the people of Iran. The other dimension is the regime itself that is oppressive and does not allow people to chose the way they want to live. So the Iranians are being trapped from the both sides, namely by the regime and by the US and its allies. PS. With due respect to Noam, Trita Parsi is not really a renowned scholar in the eyes of many Iranians. In fact, many think of him and his National Iranian American Council (NIAC) as lobbyists of the regime in the US and I guess for good reason.

Our? How to remedy this problem. Isolate yourself for a period of time. Read non fiction books that interest you and increase your general knowledge and understanding of all subjects. Identify your personal biases and the biases of group you identify with. If possible leave the United States and live abroad for year abroad. Observe , embrace, and adopt new alternative daily habits. Challenge your beliefs and principles. Engage in intellectual discussion with an open mind . Announce your biases aloud . Shift from the right and wrong nature of debate and embrace the Greek tradition of the dialectic. Allow yourself live without judgement and absolutes. All of this or similar experiences allow and aid an individual to shed your skin and to free your mind allowing for new programming of your subconscious mind. Avoid cults , television , and processed food. If and when you return to the USA keep your mouth shut and your new perspective and belief to yourself. Your friends family and community won’t understand you. Your observation of How we American live will shock you and disturb you. Keep it to yourself. If you point out obvious truths and undeniable facts regarding American life , exposing the numerous personal and collective instances of cognitive dissonance , you will freak them out. Humans react to boat rocking , shit disturbers and brutal honesty challenging their belief system and way of life predictably. They shun you , they push you away, gaslight you cut you off and push away. Think of a pack of dogs and the member of the pack that is left to die. When you are left to die by your community you know your mind is free and your own..

I’ve been following regularly this MOST remarkable man for the last three decades, and I do love both his physical and intellectual evolution lately : always wiser, always closer to what Plato was probably looking like, in Athens, about 25 centuries ago. Such an incredibly sharp and charismatic mind that helps make any paradox so clear and obvious. Also, he already was rather hansome as a younger man ; my personal feeling, though, since last year’s lockdown began, is he´s never been as profoundly beautiful as he´s today, in his ‘90s.

Beautifully stated by Mr. Chomsky. What an intelligent scholar. Iranians will never succumb to trivial demands. What Iran has done in the past 20 years in its military and industrial capabilities manifests a grave ambition to excel, as well as a clear path to self-dependance Iranians are descendants of Persian empire. They never give in to oppressive forces.

I’m greatly puzzled as to why the US and its allies have the right to build nuclear weapons but not countries outside of this club? Only select countries have the right to self-defence (and even offence) but others don’t?

A 15:38 minute long interview about Iran, but not a word, complaint or criticism of how Iran treats its own people. And has anyone seen an interview where Chomsky complains about how Russia, China, North Korea, Cuba and Vietnam, treat their people? Please show me where. People in these countries are oppressed, imprisoned, tortured, and killed by their own so-called government, and yet Chomsky is totally silent about it. Can Krauss please dedicate another 15 minutes to Chomsky's views on what kind of support we should give to the people of these countries.
