crandall black currant is one of the sweetest i’ve ever tasted, and I grew up growing and eating currants.

Hi. Yes! Thanks for the correction. You’re right. I mis-spoke. Crandall Black does have an edible berry. I was referring to some of the other flowering currants that are sold primarily for their flowers. Thanks again! - Mark

You should grow wild currants and gooseberries I have golden currants which are white common but there is other rarer kinds like mountain currant native to Montana. Evergreen currants in California quite cool to. I just planted a Missouri wild gooseberry I think it’s very cool and it makes a blueish fruit. There is also eastern native prickly gooseberries and California spiky gooseberries ribes californiciun with spikes on the fruits itself.

Yes! Thanks. We’re relatively new to currants and gooseberries and excited to learn more about how they grow and how to use the fruit.

I’ve been wanting gooseberry’s for sooo long but I live in Florida. As I’m checking out your store pre-winter, I’m wondering if you have any that would still wake up with low chill? Or maybe your earliest ripening variety?

Unfortunately we're about as far away from Florida as you can get! Did a quick scan on Google and couldn't find anything about gooseberries growing in Florida climate. They all wake up pretty early because I think Ribes can handle late frosts. I'm just not sure how much winter they need. That said, we're zone 8a with lows sometimes reaching the low 20s and they seem to do well here.... Sorry I can't offer more info. Is there a local nursery you go to? Maybe they would know?

@@dingdongsgarden thank you! You’ve been the most helpful so far. I’ve tried all the nursery’s on the net and all of the forums I could think of and nothing. I guess I will just have to give it a try and see but we only get about 100 chill hours here. I assume that the earliest gooseberry to wake would do best here, so that’s what I’m on the hunt for.

Got it. I sorted my photos by date and it looks like Hinnomaki might be the earliest. That said, the others follow-in close behind.
