Currahee - Hiking the Mountain & Cleaning up Graffiti where the men of Easy Company trained

This is part five of an eight-part series following my adventures in Georgia and Tennessee in May 2021. Here I visit Camp Toccoa, GA where the men of Easy Company from Band of Brothers spent the early part of their training.

I couldn't help but grin and laugh a bit at the uphill/downhill. Just like Fort Knox! 3 notorious uphills on our final march. Agony, Misery, and Heartbreak. ...then my grin disappeared at the sheer amount of graffiti. That's not the way to leave your mark on the world. Glad you helped on this project.

haha I'm a big hiker guy, here in ... Alsace. I regularly visit the"Vieil Armand" or HWK which is a big WWI former battledifeld as well as a military cemetary. I regularly find old bullets and on occasion other war related items, such as a german helmet. Now the key to being good at hiking is NOT being in shape. I'm so out of shape it's barely describable. Not fat, on the "too skinny to lift his own weight" side. The real key is to just ... do it. Take the pain. Catch your breath. The last hike I did was with a group of gym chads and they felt humiliated just watching my skeleton form breeze through the uphill path.

I hiked Mt Washington in New Hampshire every year for a few years. I was called the mountain goat. I had to confess to my hiking homies that when I went ahead, and then stopped to wait for them to catch up, I did it in the name of not leaving anyone behind, but in all practicality, I'm no mountain goat, and I needed to catch my breath. But hey, I'll play it off as I'm doing fine, and how are y'all doing?

Ohh. I am so dumb. That’s where the paratroopers were training jogging up the hill?! :O That’s awesome. I’m about four minutes in before I decided to read the description to gain some info of what the significance of the mountain was and I’m sure there’s more, but that’s awesome. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Band of Brothers (though I do have the dvd somewhere) but ever since, those scenes stuck with me. Especially when I’d go hiking/walking up and down a local hill, it’d always get me thinking about how difficult that must’ve truly been so looking forward to seeing the rest and seeing how it goes!

What is wrong with people?! Even if it wasn't a place that is historically significant for the 506th and what they did, it is still a gorgeous piece of natural beauty which should never be vandalised. The lack of respect for the history and the natural beauty is disturbing. More needs to be done to teach the next generations to respect both, to preserve it so future generations can enjoy learning about the history of the location and the beauty of it to.

I am a North Carolina native and was wondering if youd do some videos about some of the lesser talked about states during the civil war. We had several battles here including one at bentonville, NC where you can go see the battlefield, the soldiers graves, and the house they used as a field hospital (complete with blood on the floors) just something to consider! Thanks for reading this and I hope you have a great day!
