Some of just are made like that. I have always been intellectually hungry… unfortunately in my Catholic school and parish this wasn’t nurtured and I was never guided to direct that within the faith. As a result I looked everywhere but the church… but because I was always looking for the Truth, Christ brought me back and now, because of the internet I am finally having my thirst met. At 43 I am fairly sure that no matter how I go intellectually exploring the faith I won’t get to the end of it because God is infinite and i am directing my curiosity within a tradition that is over two millenia old! I also recognize what you say that intellectual curiosity unbalanced can be a vice so I am also doing disciplined prayer and fasting. However, I learned this from my intellectual curiosity 😂. So I think curiosity within Catholicism will sort itself out 😉

It's more of the latter I'm afraid. Without my curiosity my life would have been more disciplined and therefore better. Curiosity is lust of the mind sounds like a pretty good description :). Thanks for the comment and God bless from an Eastern Orthodox Christian (not a very good one).

@@evska2012then it appears you have no faith, ask God to remove your fear and give to you faith, for there is no fear in faith, say to god I will do what I will do, and it is up to you to stop me if you don't want me doing something I should not, then your fate is in the hands of the Almighty not in the hands of yourself. Because it appears you're living in shame and guilt and fear those who live in the faith are without these things they have peace in their hearts, remember there is no condemnation in the Christ, don't try to be something just be something, and god will protect you and god will guide you. My life is in your hands my lord and my god, if you feel like watching TV all day long then do so, if you feel like going for a walk then do so, if you desire many things and have them not, then your heart is attached to the things of this world, ask the the lord God to circumcise your heart from the things of this world, Fear not little one, god is greater than all even the fear in your heart, God bless.

@@evska2012Such self awareness is a good thing. I appreciate your openness. I became Catholic and then realized that I suck at it, but then felt comforted by the Lord that this is part of the point. It's not to shame, discourage, and be down on our selves. It's to help us see the truth of our condition and thus our need for God's grace.

I scold Christians because they lack shame. Nothing pleases me more than opposing faith. Incompetence is the God of Jesus, failing to complete anything for 2000 years, being the son of a deity, known for a perfect record of doing nothing. Jesus Christ hangeth for all time, because Romans won the war of the Jews. The Messiah of the Jews, The King of the Jews, forever cursed. The Christians are a curse, being the "wolves in sheep's clothing", seeking signs. The only sign given is believers murdering a smaller number of believers. Incompetence is your God, having waited on the Jew' Messiah for 2000 years, indoctrinated by Roman literature. " for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13. You ignore the fact, not all of us can pretend prophesy & God exist. That is why Jesus Christ says, "Think not I come with peace, but sword" & believers make up stories to gloss over the fact they are avoided like the old woman with too many cats. It is amusing to hear the profound arrogance of someone knowing of God, as if He were known outside of fiction. The believer & the literate are separated by the vocabulary of fiction: Blasphemy, God, faith, prayer, prophet, scripture etc. Matthew 17:20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” I like asking believers how they can possibly think their faith is respectable, given Jesus said faith is worthless, since you can't expect obedience when ordering mountains to move? Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy". "Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall". What is The Catholic faith? Organized crime, indoctrinating children with a fantasyland vocabulary? When men are free of religious notions they write, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy." "My sheep hear My voice" is the mindset of slavery. Once free of it, there are no suggestions we all travel better by having one foot in a stranger's fantasyland or Garden of Eden. A mind free of religious text is not tortured by pretending Divinity made Mormons so Christians would know how Jews feel, having pasted their books on to them both. Those looking for the sign of a resurrection, are a vile, "Wicked Generation" seeking signs, led by "wolves in sheep's clothing". "The only sign is that of Jonah"; a believer murdered by other believers. Chained to the slavery of faith, they write: "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13 One must be insanely arrogant to suggest knowing something of a God. It is by boldness, Moses became the world's worst navigator, by having one foot in some fantasyland. There is a fine line between fishing & standing on the shore, looking like an idiot. Fail to get the Jews to buy it for 2000 years & they should know who their Messiah is. Jesus is a fake, to immortalize the war against the Jews. Jesus Christ is crucified for all time in literature & the subjects of Rome are illiterate. Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy" & the joke is in the scriptures. "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13 An improvement on your God & faith; would outlaw indoctrination & abuse of the vocabulary of fiction on children. @@tookie36 reminds me of how Tolkien described the “purpose” of Tom Bombadil to be intentionally unclearly defined relative to all of the other LOTR characters purely to instill in (and remind the reader to have) a natural wonder over the other ancient, powerful and seemingly mystical aspects of lGod’s creation that are only yet to be fully understood. Which is why Gandalf’s last thing to do was go and have a “long chat” with Tom Bombadil before he departed Middle Earth; because even Gandalf was in awe and wonder at this mysterious entity and the very nature of a part of God’s creation hitherto unknown, even in Gandalf’s White Wizard version!

Seeking ever greater amounts of information can be a way of avoiding the issues and relationships in our actual lives. I know this because I have this tendency sometimes. It’s important to disconnect from the greater world sometimes and focus on what immediately around us.

Curiosity is an important impetus to learn and grow but can be diversional and a distraction as well. I prefer the former as Thomas himself must have had more than a modicum of curiosity to continue his scholarly work.

"The mind of the discerning acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge." - Prov. 18:15. This is the one area that makes me glad that Aquinas wasn't infallible. You are clearly a considered thinker, and one who seeks knowledge of the truth. You are God's image-bearers, so it would be a grave sin indeed to neglect the use of your reason (albeit in a right manner, as you have pointed out). Since Sacred Scripture encourages us to seek knowledge, curiosity is a good thing. Without curiosity, we would never have come to the knowledge of Christ or His Church at all.

Curiosity is positive as long as it is constrained by good values and proper context. In this case it will likely lead you somewhere good. Without those there is a very good chance curiosity will lead you somewhere bad or maybe no where at all…which is bad.

"Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back." But angels don't have physical senses. They possess what is called *“infused knowledge.”* This means that they were made by God with all the knowledge that they would ever need. Angels never learn, but they are extremely smart; much smarter than we We humans, however, are lacking in necessary knowledge. And this is what curiosity is born from. But however like all things, it is like the double edged sword. Can be used for good or ill

9:37 beyond what one is capable of ... St. Thomas gives great examples. Scientia (by the way other than historic knowledge, which is knowing by authority) does not exists for contingents that are: * past (the age of a rock) * far away (the distance of a star) * or hidden (the interior of an atom or someone else's human mind). So, Deep Time, Deep Space, Heliocentrism, Particle Physics and Psychology are more like Curiosity (St. Thomas' version 3) than like Science.
