Curb Your Enthusiasm's Ending Explained - Larry David's Comedy Is So Wrong But So Right

Фильм және анимация

Over Curb Your Enthusiasm’s 2+ decades, Larry David was many things: rude, mean spirited, obsessive, over the top, and… surprisingly relatable? While Larry definitely has moments of going way too far, there were also so many times where he really spoke for the grump in all of us. So now that the show has finally wrapped up its final season, let’s take a look back at how the show built this simultaneously off-putting and deeply relatable character.

The world needs more Larry David in it. We should all strive to be more like him as he calls out the bullshit niceties that allow bullies and the immoral to take advantage of the weak. He isn't unkind, he just has a healthy sense of fairness... If you ignore his narcissism anyways..

@@KaraLey98 That's true, but it is a TV show. Also I stopped watching around season 4 or 5. I don't think Larry from that far back would have done this. I think the show got too ridiculous as time went on. So maybe I should have said "the world needs more people like Season 2 Larry"

Let's not forget a very important caveat that the only reason he's able to do as he pleases is bc he has fu*k-you money. Most of us has to pick and choose our words carefully bc they have real consequences that we don't have the money to get out of😅

Larry David is a genius. His griping about simple things was mostly relatable to me. His final Curb Your Enthusiasm episode was a mirror image of The Seinfeld finale. Jerry Seinfeld showing up in the final scene was perfection

Larry David’s Way of Life is a blessing, I use his *vocabularry* on a daily basis; “sample abuser”, “chat & cut” or “outfit tracker” etc. Literally had a “stop & chat” today at work, and it was awkward cuz I was in a hurry. He really nailed how people in society act vs how they want to, and it’s one of the reasons why this show is adored decades later. Truly a genius.

I rewatched the series ahead of the final season. I found myself agreeing with him far more than i did when i watched it years ago. Im not sure if that is a reflection of how i have changed, or the world. Probably both.

Laughter will always be one of the best ways to deal with anything we consider a "sensitive subject", so it doesn't become more traumatic than it needs to be. It takes that weight off our shoulders, if we let it.

The only thing that sucks about Larry is the way some fans start to relate to him a little TOO much, doing “missing the point by idolizing them” meme.

I think what I take from Curb Your Enthusiasm is that there's nothing wrong with sticking to your guns. It's Larry's naive and narcissistic expectation that people will come around to his point of view that turns him into the butt of the joke.

Humor is the best way to unite and disarm everyone. It's clearly satire, parody, and caricature of real life. It's a hilarious view inside the mind of petty curmudgeonly but ultimately good hearted people. It's clearly not a How To Guide. If we can't laugh at things like morals and human fallibilities, they become impossible to humanize.

We can all think of a handful of times when Larry was in the wrong. But those times stand out precisely because of their rarity. Larry generally behaves correctly. When that behaviour violates social norms, this is an indictment of the social norms.

I think that we should get more boys sewing machines 🤷🏻‍♀️ I've never seen this show before but that made me smile 😊 I don't get in to all the gender stuff, I've just come to understand that masculine & feminine are both ENERGIES that both men & women are meant to embody. Men have more masculine due to them often having significantly more testosterone than us & women have more feminine due to us having more estrogen.... BUT we do have lower levels of testosterone while males often have lower levels of estrogen.... so with MOST males pretending that feminity is a weakness, they are imbalanced... totally out of whack (which is entirely obvious IYKYK 😢) & society EXPECTS women to be in their masculine at all times... BUT shame us for it?? so we have imbalances ourselves but not at all to the detrimental degree that males are bullying themselves & each other in to 🤮

Fun fact: a friend of mine worked on the show for a few years and he said they had quite a big CGI budget. The reason? Larry David is in his 70s and looks it, but you don’t really want to see a 70 year old man’s face in 4k detail on your big screen. So the network gives them a big budget to smooth out his wrinkles and get rid of the age spots

I always appreciated Larry being his own punching bag on the show, even to an absurd degree. A lot of male comedians love to make others the butt, or play the “I make fun of everyone equally” card. Larry invented a world where everyone was out to get him and it was a unique comedic perspective.

I always respected Larry not because he was always right, but because he was always honest and didn’t complain if he lost friends or opportunities; he accepted the consequences. Not as big of a fan of his asshole fans, though. They were another story.
