The cupola furnace can be made of almost any practical size. The overall shape is cylindrical, and the equipment is arranged vertically, usually supported by four legs.
The cupola furnace works on a simple principle, the combustion of coke generates carbon dioxide and heat, and this causes the iron to melt.

The bed height depends on both the diameter of the cupola bore and the blast pressure. It may or may not be 40 inches. Also, with the advantages of a cupola listed at the end, you forgot two of the most important. They are FAST. Many times faster than a large crucible type furnace. And they are continuous melters, dropping charge after charge as long as layers of metal and replacement fuel are added at the top.
