UEFA had a chance to resurrect that competition yet we got the Europa Conference League instead. Though I like that competition, a new Cup Winner's Cup would have been more preferable.

Dynamo Kiev 1986, absolutely stunning performance. Completely in shock after this game. How was it possible that a team could play such perfect football. Haven't seen a team play like that since then.

West Ham vs Munich 1860 . WH fielded 11 English players , even todays national team cannot achieve that. A few years later saw Sealey playing for the reserves against my local amateur side in the Metropolitan league.

Lobanovsky’s Dynamo Kiev superior game vs Atletico Madrid was first display of ferocious pressing/counter pressing. They dominated Atletico from start to finish. Masterclass performance.

Only in the CWC would you see a win for a teams like Sporting in '64, Slovan in '69, little Magdeburg in '74, or Mechelen in '88. Even some of the beaten finalists were teams you would not expect to see at the business end of a European club competition; names, teams like MTK of Budapest, TSV Munich, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Royal Antwerp, Rapid Vienna. There was nothing wrong with how things used to be in European football. Champions Cup - the champion club sides, if you won this, you really were the best of the best. Cup Winners Cup - the national cup winners, and more than once throwing up a variety of sides. UEFA Cup - the best of the rest, top drawer quality all the way. Then the bean counters moved in . . . . . .

To Mechelen it was their first appearance in European club's action and the Win at once! But to beat Ajax in final in the best ever Dutch football year (Euro-88 by Oranje and CC by PSV) was a little spoiler)) 😁

European football up until the 90's was an absolute joy to watch. You were almost guaranteed to see a 'small' team reach a final most years. It was set up so that really, any team could have a shot a European glory. My team, Aberdeen had great European nights in the 80's. Defeating the greatest name in German football in the Quarter Finals of the Cup Winners Cup, beating Waterschei Thor(who were undefeated that season until we beat them 5-1 in the first leg of the Semi-Final), then slaughtering the greatest name in World Football, Real Madrid in the Final. The following season we reached the Semi-Final, only to be beaten by a Porto side who bribed the Referee prior to the second leg at Pittodrie. We then reached the Quarter-Final of the European Cup, losing on away goals to Gothenburg (we're still to this day the only team to exist the European Cup unbeaten). Dundee Utd reached the Semi-Final of the European Cup, losing to Roma. They then reached the UEFA Cup Final, missing out on the trophy to Gothenburg...Gothenburg, there's another team which will never see European nights such as that again, all because of money and corruption within UEFA. European football is boring now.

One of my first memories of football was Mark Hughes' fantastic 2nd goal against Barcelona in 1991. Cracking goal and the beginnings of a great United team. It was a brilliant competition this with such a variety of clubs and countries able to contest the final. Something you don't get now with the monster that is the Champions League.

La Conference League non è come la Coppa delle Coppe.. La Coppa delle Coppe e stata vinta da grandi squadre.. Come il Tottenham Hotspur, Milan,Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Barcellona, Dinamo Kiev, Anderlecht, Juventus, Ajax, Manchester utd... Altre grandi squadre come Real Madrid e Liverpool hanno perso la Coppa delle Coppe solo in Finale... La Conference League è uguale alla Coppa intertoto.. Si qualificano le squadre che arrivano prime fra quelle che non hanno ottenuto la qualificazione per l'Europa League.... La Roma ad esempio arriva al settimo posto in campionato per qualificarsi alla conference League.. La Juventus ad esempio si classifica al settimo posto nel 1999..e partecipa d'estate al coppa intertoto.per qualificarsi alla coppa UEFA... Un finale la Juventus batte i francesi del Rennes che avevano conquistato il quinto posto in campionato.. Francese. Le uniche cose che sono differenti nella Conference League, rispetto all'intertoto, sono ... Il ripescaggio delle squadre che nei giorni non passano il turno dell'Europa League e della Champions League ..e i play off... Chi paragona la conference League alla coppa delle coppe sbaglia alla grande.. Forse fa il tifo per una squadra che la Coppa delle Coppe non l'ha mai VINTA

Dat 3 of 4 buitenlanders per club regel bestaat nog steeds in Azië. In de jaren twintig begon een voetbalcompetitie in de VS met de trend om heel veel buitenlanders aan te trekken, de teams daar mogen zo veel hebben als ze maar willen, dat deden ze om veel toeschouwers en kijkers aan te trekken. Dat gebeurde ook opnieuw in de jaren zeventig en tachtig onder een andere competitie, veel buitenlanders gingen daar spelen waaronder Cruijff en Pele, en dat deden ze voor de zelfde reden maar meestal ging het om 💵💵💵

bellissima competizione fino al 92 93, poi con l avvento della champions ha perso di importanza e giustamente si è pensato di toglierla perche' le squadre vincenti delle rispettive coppe nazionali erano gia' qualificate x la champions o la uefa......delle ultime edizioni citerei pero' quella del 96 97 con una finalissima tra psg e Barca.....cmq era una competizione che permetteva anche a squadre minori di vincerla....vedi zaragozza lazio ecc ecc oltre che permettere a squadre anche di serie b di arrivare in fondo..tipo l'Atalanta in serie b nel 86 oppure la favola del vicenza nel 97....citerei anche Anversa,Rapid Vienna,Stoccarda,Maiorca che grazie a questa competizione sono riuscite ad arrivare ad una finale europea ed a un passo dal sogno.....un vero peccato abolirla ma con la riforma delle competzioni uefa non avrebbe piu' avuto appeal.

So not only does the commentator call the goalscorer 'Nadim' for Real Zaragoza vs Arsenal. instead of the correct name ie 'Nayim', they then proceed to zoom in on another player that is definitely not Nayim instead of him as if that player was the goal scorer. Whatever channel that was, they messed up badly.
