This was my truck cat built the motor so they painted it cat yellow. The truck was getting 3.8 mpg when I took it them it clearly had a problem with it and instead of finding the problem they just tuned it come to find out it had a bad ecm on it so the outcome was it blew the turbo and fired the ecm they didn’t fix anything but Cummins did new ecm new turbo and the truck was running great and getting 5 mpg they will never get my business anymore. If the ecm was bad at the time of the dyno, it would have shown. Quit looking for someone to blame. You willingly took your truck to them because you felt it had a problem. And I bet on the first hill you pulled leaving Saxonburg, you had a big smile on your face, and thought your truck was awesome.

@@jcsully, bullshit. My ecm had an issue with the plug pins shorting out and at the time I got it tuned, the data link detected nothing. I didn't have Pittsburgh Power do the tune, but it shows if the problem isn't there when on the computer, how can anyone find it. Kind of like telling your mechanic... "it goes chirp, ping, ping, bang when I shift" and the mechanic can't get it to replicate the problem. Who is to blame, obviously no one is. But don't come on here like some rest area gloryhole hero and call the guy a liar, it's a good way to get free dental care.

25 yrs out here and I guarantee I have more miles in reverse than you have going forward Good Buddy, and the n14 isn't badass. Valve coking issues, fuel pump problems, electrical issues, splayed main caps... junk.

Probably fooled with the fuel pump and computer. Basically raising redline and increasing fuel pressure and raising fuel cutoff rpm....among other things.....

Are the piston crowns in that Cummins, steel top or aluminum top? One of the two piston materials doesn't tolerate heat as well as the other. You can assume its a potential issue as horsepower rises. Especially on long pulls.

Detroits can be tuned and built above 700hp, it's not difficult. There's guys in Pennsylvania who have working trucks that sled pull and they are over 800.

Cummins factory calibration from the CPL 2592 525HP 1590 lb-ft engine is standard, moreover, the engine could not even develop these characteristics, most likely a test bench error or engine wear.

Bullshit, you're talking out your ass. My coronado glider 5 yr average is 7.2 mpg, pulling flatbed. Our 2000 classic consistently got 7+mpg with a 12.7 Detroit.

7.2 flatbed, how about dry van or refer that is taller than the cab, there's your at most 5mpg. Aero cabs looks generic but there is a reason for it. But for flatbed it's usually ok. I do appreciate the classic look and it adds a personal touch for each driver. It gets old seeing the same stuff on the road. Long nose and coe something unique.

Jeremy Wilson you know as well as I do, a kta will pullouts and destroy any 6nz scatterpillar. Guys in trucks shops like me will tell you. The caterpillar is a great engine, but it is also very overrated. Talked to cove truck sales last week and the said they fixed more cats than Cummins and Detroit together last year. I’m not bashing the c15, I’m just letting you know that you it does have serious competition. The original debate was about power, and my point stays. The kta would wrench the insides out of a 6nz without blinking

why does it have to be a 6NZ? why not an MXS or a 1LW ? people are hung up on the 6NZ and that's not more than a glorified 1LW or 2WS, a well tuned MBN is just as good as a 6NZ , same as any other Cat, I much rather have an acert and build it with lower compression and a tune and keeping the twins, than do the same with a 6NZ.

The owner commented on here, the ecm was bad, and they still insisted on adding power. But you obviously don't understand how an engine works. It's an air pump essentially, but you think turning power down is efficient, lmfao 😂. If I have 700hp and you have 475hp, we are both grossing 80k, who's engine is working harder and using more fuel? Your little 475hp engine is dying going over Donner while mine is pulling nice and strong. I can't believe there's still people who think power is detrimental, holy shit.

This was my truck cat built the motor so they painted it cat yellow. The truck was getting 3.8 mpg when I took it them it clearly had a problem with it and instead of finding the problem they just tuned it come to find out it had a bad ecm on it so the outcome was it blew the turbo and fired the ecm they didn’t fix anything but Cummins did new ecm new turbo and the truck was running great and getting 5 mpg they will never get my business anymore. If the ecm was bad at the time of the dyno, it would have shown. Quit looking for someone to blame. You willingly took your truck to them because you felt it had a problem. And I bet on the first hill you pulled leaving Saxonburg, you had a big smile on your face, and thought your truck was awesome.

@@jcsully, bullshit. My ecm had an issue with the plug pins shorting out and at the time I got it tuned, the data link detected nothing. I didn't have Pittsburgh Power do the tune, but it shows if the problem isn't there when on the computer, how can anyone find it. Kind of like telling your mechanic... "it goes chirp, ping, ping, bang when I shift" and the mechanic can't get it to replicate the problem. Who is to blame, obviously no one is. But don't come on here like some rest area gloryhole hero and call the guy a liar, it's a good way to get free dental care.

@@Baruch994 Didn't you see the license plate?? Idaho. Out west we've got MOUNTAINS. 5mpg is pretty darned good. I'm up in Washington, running a Pittsburgh box on a 2025 cpl, and have Dyno numbers similar to this. Biggest problem is keeping the water cool. Fuel is CHEAP give me more power.
Those are some dam good numbers they got out of it id be pretty dam happy with it 590 hp 1790 to the ground

25 yrs out here and I guarantee I have more miles in reverse than you have going forward Good Buddy, and the n14 isn't badass. Valve coking issues, fuel pump problems, electrical issues, splayed main caps... junk.

Is that done with all stock parts & thru the tune or did you guys swap the manifold & turbo?

What did the customer think of the tune and what did he gain that the real question . You need to put a review on here after the customer uses it for a couple months I want to know that !!! Probably fooled with the fuel pump and computer. Basically raising redline and increasing fuel pressure and raising fuel cutoff rpm....among other things.....

What program do you guys use to do the tuning on the n14? You can't do anything like that with Cummins insite can you?

Unless it’s a different program, cummins calterm is what most use to modify calibrations
Are the piston crowns in that Cummins, steel top or aluminum top? One of the two piston materials doesn't tolerate heat as well as the other. You can assume its a potential issue as horsepower rises. Especially on long pulls.

Not going to be able to tell much on the dyno, not without spending a few hours on it anyway, which I'm assuming the owner wasn't eager to spend the money on.

How much did that service cost?
What can u get for a hp tune can it make 700 or more to the wheels

1200 max before turbo. Past that you take your chances ,yoi might find out how big your wallet is!!

Jason Tate which Cat C-15 there was 3 versions of it. The 6nz C dash 15 which was a re named 3406b, the C15, C15 Acert.

Firebird 87622 3406b was all mechanical. Early c15s are basically a 3406e

Yeah something was up with their boost gauge. No way it only made 32 psi and jumped up that much on torque.

Detroits can be tuned and built above 700hp, it's not difficult. There's guys in Pennsylvania who have working trucks that sled pull and they are over 800.

Never seen a 12.7 430 Detroit get bad mileage personally. Perhaps there's a bad sensor or the charge air cooler is leaking boost. Just a thought.

@@maynardreed4036 bout the only time I've seen a 12.7 get bad mileage is keeping the throttle on the floor All day. Even then, it's not terrible.

Cummins factory calibration from the CPL 2592 525HP 1590 lb-ft engine is standard, moreover, the engine could not even develop these characteristics, most likely a test bench error or engine wear.

Its crappy milage is because it thinks its a cat,i never had a cat that got as good of milage as a cummins they always got atleast 2 mpgs less,it might not be the truck it may be the driver

Wrong. Big diesels don't have scavenging effects like gas engines.
I think they went the wrong way, maybe cut it back to a 300 horse would give it better fuel mileage?

Bullshit, you're talking out your ass. My coronado glider 5 yr average is 7.2 mpg, pulling flatbed. Our 2000 classic consistently got 7+mpg with a 12.7 Detroit.

7.2 flatbed, how about dry van or refer that is taller than the cab, there's your at most 5mpg. Aero cabs looks generic but there is a reason for it. But for flatbed it's usually ok. I do appreciate the classic look and it adds a personal touch for each driver. It gets old seeing the same stuff on the road. Long nose and coe something unique.

Jeremy Wilson you know as well as I do, a kta will pullouts and destroy any 6nz scatterpillar. Guys in trucks shops like me will tell you. The caterpillar is a great engine, but it is also very overrated. Talked to cove truck sales last week and the said they fixed more cats than Cummins and Detroit together last year. I’m not bashing the c15, I’m just letting you know that you it does have serious competition. The original debate was about power, and my point stays. The kta would wrench the insides out of a 6nz without blinking

why does it have to be a 6NZ? why not an MXS or a 1LW ? people are hung up on the 6NZ and that's not more than a glorified 1LW or 2WS, a well tuned MBN is just as good as a 6NZ , same as any other Cat, I much rather have an acert and build it with lower compression and a tune and keeping the twins, than do the same with a 6NZ.

My built and tuned 12.7 makes yellow fuck boys cry across i80 all year long. Scatterpillar is a good engine but most of the good buddy's talking them up are reminiscing of their first ride at Werner in a castrated 475hp 3406E, lmfao. All you yellow babies talk big shit... The owner commented on here, the ecm was bad, and they still insisted on adding power. But you obviously don't understand how an engine works. It's an air pump essentially, but you think turning power down is efficient, lmfao 😂. If I have 700hp and you have 475hp, we are both grossing 80k, who's engine is working harder and using more fuel? Your little 475hp engine is dying going over Donner while mine is pulling nice and strong. I can't believe there's still people who think power is detrimental, holy shit.

Those numbers are to the wheels/ground so ad 25% drivetrain loss & you will get the engine power to the crankshaft like factory rating them.
