Good for about 6k, commercial engines go for 15-30k hours no problem

On the dash for a 315 Cummings is it supposed to read 12 volts or reading 13/2?

If the alternator is charging properly, you should see high 13's or low 14's once the batteries have recovered from startup. If its a larger house bank, it could vary a bit depending on their state of charge.
