Cracking video mate. Really useful info, especially for someone planning to move out there. I can imagine many people get surprised by the cold water.

@mrwilliamstravels I will be coming in Mid September. The water will be too cold to swim?
@mrwilliamstravels
22 күн бұрын
@hwanjung8230 its pretty cold all year round but September is actually a pretty good time and the sea will be fairly warm. You might want to invest in a neoprene top though if you want to spend more time in the water!

Welcome to Portugal!
Thank you for this video. I agree with you and would add, it is a challenge to find active single retirees in the Algarve
After two years in Portugal we have decided to leave and have applied for residency elsewhere. We are just south of Lisbon and the shine has come off the place. I once found it quaint but now see an impoverished population, unhappy, young people leaving for better opportunities, more homelessness, more derelict buildings, quickly rising prices, health services crumbling and it seems I'm in the mindset... "I expect nothing and I'm still disappointed".

I'm Portuguese, living abroad for almost 10 years and I see the same when I go back to visit family. I always hear all these foreigners calling Portugal heaven on earth, but they must be looking somewhere else because all I see is a country filled with sad, dissatisfied and confused people.

@@charlesentertainmentcheese6663 this seems to be the case in many countries nowadays unfortunately, bit don't get me wrong I really love Portugal and it's a lot less depression than the UK where I from originally

wow a few losers lurking here. I normally rate the people as the ever pessimistic living in their half glass, stuck in the negatives, and the ever optimistic, the ones that can make the best out of it. Looks like this post caught a few of the pessimistic in the net. But.....granted the guy's face is depressing, and it looks like he just wanted to offload. Also probably best if you do a bit of homework before you move into a new country.
For beaches nothing compares with Cyprus and Greek islands.

Cyprus has too many sandy beaches. Protaras figtree, Nissi beach Ayia Napa. Coral bay Paphos. Also Varosha, Famagusta the best beaches in the occupied areas named golden sands!!

I've also found all the circumstances you describe. Most disappointed about the water temp. I was looking forward to learning how to surf or just enjoying a good frolic but, being from South Florida where the water is always warm, there's no way I'm getting in the ocean here! However, despite the drawbacks, I'm still quite grateful to live here.

Me too Glenn, I love it here and I know what you mean about the water temp, I don't mind it too much but I'd assumed it would be warmer than the UK!

I lived in Portugal for 20 years and I can assure you the Algarve doesn't live up to the hype in anyway. It is just an overrated tourist place, specially if you compare to the rest of Portugal. First, there are too many tourists there. Second, the people from Algarve isn't welcoming like you see in Lisbon or most of other places in Portugal. Third, in Algarve the food in restaurants is just horrible. If you would like to visit Portugal I advice you to start with Lisbon

Hi Charles, I've visited most of Portugal and I agree in the summer season the Algarve can be very touristy. However the west coast is quieter and has stunning scenery and I've found that most of the Portuguese people I've met here have been super friendly so far. I do love Lisbon though as well!

Our perceptions are radically shaped by who we are, what we do and how we interact with the world around us. The Algarve is not for everyone, but I personally think it's one of the most beautiful playgrounds in the world.
