@@VanitasVraz It was meant to be more of a joke than bashing someone who eats chicken with pasta. I guess I didn't make that clear enough. 😅 I'm actually half Czech and half Italian and my Czech grandma would cook chicken in sweet paprika sauce with farfalle (a type of pasta) so you definitely could cook it that way and people like it. 😀 I was more referring to plating in that specific case. We usually plate the meat aside, for ex. Spaghetti and meatballs; we would eat first spaghetti and when we're finished with those we grab a few meatballs and eat those with bread. 😀

I'm Asian. And if people were to make or eat our food, wear our cultural clothes, speak our language, participate or celebrate our culture in whatever way possible. It would make me fucking elated. Culture has always been shared. And being Filipino, our culture has been mixed up with a huge variation of other cultures. The food "Pancit" was inspired and brought by Chinese cultures, another popular dessert "Leche Flan" was originated in Spain. One of the main language we speak "Tagalog" is a combination of Spanish, English, Malay... Etc. Those are the many few examples of how different cultures become a part of our culture. I don't believe that anyone owns a culture. Cultures have always been shared. I would have a Chinese uncle who tends to happily share his native food with us, teach and encourage us to speak his language. And we would happily introduce him to our cultures and lifestyle as well. I personally find it so infuriating when people gatekeep a certain culture. I hate when people shame others who enjoy other peoples cultures and lifestyle. To repeat myself, I would be very very delighted if anyone were to participate in our culture, eat our food, dress our clothes...etc. My culture can be yours too. You don't have to have my skin color. You don't have to look like me. We don't have to share the same ethnicity or cultural identity. You can partipate in our lifestyle, and I would wholeheartedly invite you to do so. My culture is for everybody to enjoy. So please don't try to speak on my behalf on whether or not anybody has the right to celebrate my culture. At this point, I don't even want to label my culture as my own but rather that of a common lifestyle that my ancestors would have. I don't think anyone owns a culture. Culture is just a common lifestyle our ancestors would take part in, by means of artistic expression or survival. Conclusion, do what makes you happy. :)

These same people advocate for cultures like Native Americans and minorities to get more representation, yet when someone who isn’t the same color makes anything related to them, they try and shoot it down. I’m especially annoyed with people who believe Asian people can’t get a tan, I’m even a tan Korean. I love cooking and I really want to try making more exotic dishes, Korean dishes mainly use sesame seeds, sesame oil and green onions, and it’s fantastic but I’d like to try something. . Different, we Koreans really do love our sesame seeds though lol Honestly these people seem like they want humanity to be some sort of High School clique cliche? Where everyone has their own group and deviating from that group is considered wrong. I could never understand that, or how any of these people think it’s okay to speak over the same people they’re trying to “speak for”. I just wish people wouldn’t get offended about literally anything, they even get offended by other people who aren’t offended by something?? It’s completely mind boggling.

@@hallowedchromee310 not to mention, don't certain minorities naturally integrate to cultures of the ethnic majority? Like, I'm Filipino and I live in East Asia. I've been raised my whole life integrating to the East Asian culture. Speaking their language, eating their foods, celebrating their traditions, and the locals actually encouraged us to do so. Not that I'm being forced to. But I think that cultural integration and mixing is entirely natural and human. Minorities who live in America naturally integrate their culture and lifestyle. I have friends from various backgrounds and sometimes they bring me along to celebrate their traditions and festivals. My very good friend is Indian, she would introduce me to their local sweets and dishes (which I can proudly say is one of my most favorite cuisines). My dad also loves experimenting with flavors and cuisines too! He loves making Chinese, Indian, and even Italian dishes. All I'm saying is that it's ridiculous that people gatekeep culture like this when minorities have been integrating theirs with theirs. Also, thanks for sharing :))

I swear those people are nuts and just want to gatekeep everything to feel some sense of power. Everyone should be honored if someone took the to learn another culture's food and being open minded to be around different people. I watch tons of asian, latino, and american cooks on tik tok and I love branching out trying new things since it's cool to see how other cultures make the same foods in different ways.

I'm latina, and i'm so f*cking tired of this cultural appropiation madness. If I ever get to go the US and find a store selling my traditional food, i'd be so honoured and glad no matter the skin colour of whoever running it, if they took the time to do some research and follow our recipes, then it's more than enough for me. One day I guided a lost american tourist for free here because I felt bad at how no one could help him because he only spoke english and most of us only speak spanish, and while I was taking him to his destination he asked me for a good place where he could eat empanadas. What was I supposed to tell him? "Dude, no, ur white, go eat McDonalds". Of course I took the poor man to a nice Puesto de Empanadas. Anyways guys, don't worry about these things, it's just nonsense. In real life, we don't get offended by such stupid matters, I would only be triggered by someone being truly racist towards me (or calling me "latinx", which is a complete joke here) and not by this. Same thing applies to my traditional clothing, I would be so amazed if I saw someone dressing as a Gaucho or Paisana in a respectful context, I would even teach them how to dance Folclore. Vivan y dejen vivir, snowflakes hinchahuevos.

Exactly man. This is normal for most countries and cultures tbh. It's ironically usually the Western / US-born non-white people who get offended on behalf of their native culture when the US / West 'appropriates' their culture, and *not* the people from the country / culture itself. Like, a US-born Vietnamese girl is the one moaning about the offensiveness of white people making Pho, but if you go to Vietnam (which I have) and meet the locals, they're proud to show you their foods, and would be thrilled if you took an interested in their cuisine and wanted to learn how to make the dishes yourself! I've travelled to 20+ countries across the world, and pretty much all the people in these countries were proud to share with me their foods, traditions and history, and were happy that I took interest in learning about their countries and customs. This is how normal humans behave lol. I spent a month in Japan for work, where I didn't meet a single person who gave a flying fuck that I'm a white guy who wants to learn a bit of Japanese, or wants to take an interest in Japanese food. Instead, they're keen to show their pride in their culture and welcome me, show me local spots for sightseeing, food, drink etc, and treat me like a guest, not as some sort of invader who wants to steal their stuff. We aren't living in 1750, nobody is a coloniser. We must put the past behind us in that regard. These people on social media have loud voices and get heard, but it's not at all how the vast majority think / act. Twitter is basically an online insane asylum where the mentally ill are running the show, instead of the doctors.

  • @Dazecat11

It never was about equality. They still look for forms to put pressure on people and manipulate their thinking in certain areas. Normal people would embrace other culture when it comes to their food, art and its people. But that is what irks the minority who cries foul all the time. And in the end they are the worst offenders, the way they dress, match their hair (i only say bright colors and those exotic cuts), what they eat and how the talk. I mean if they would follow their own doctrine they would have to lock themself away in their cellar, if they have one of course.

Whenever something is created, whether it be a culture, food, song, dance, idea, hairstyle, dialect or whatever it may be, it belongs to the ENTIRE SPHERE of humanity, not just one part of it. That's how culture evolves over time, or to quote Bob Dylan when he was asked about this: "that's how it works". "Cultural appropriation" isn't a real thing, it's a comical term used by people who have the victimhood personality trait as a form of ammunition, to give them something to feel aggrieved about. That's how these people get their energy, by feeling hard-done by.

That being said, good on you for exposing your kids to Chinese culture, although it should also be pointed out for corrections sake and not in a negative way, that they weren’t “given” Chinatown lol, they were bullied, taken as guests and cornered off after ww2 in modern day Chinatown, and was originally used as a term by the police to ridicule them and would avidly arrest and beat them. Obviously today it’s different, but still lol

But I was annoyed to hear that it is now considered inappropriate. As long as the activity was done out of appreciation and respect, there is nothing inappropriate about this and to be honest, I'm more offended by non Asians speaking on my behalf and dictating what I 'should' be offended by. Honestly, indulge in your Indian takeaways, samosas and tumeric lattes. You are not offending me or any Indian person I know. On another note, do these left wing loonies understand how they are harming non-white communities with their bizzare rhetoric? I know plenty of black and Asian people who own restaurants. My "best friend" would constantly squeal and shriek about how my cabbage rolls stunk or how my goulash looked. I didn't let her stop me from eating my lunches. If she had a problem with the smell, she could leave or shut up. I was eating. Most of these people have not grown up being told "you can't control what other people do or how they react to you. You only have control over what you do." They clearly want to control what everyone else does.

I kind of get where she's coming form with the pressure to fit in, though I don't recall experiencing those kinds of pressures being half-Asian. And, oddly, I think I'm older than her, so she might have just grown up in a shitty place or be looking back with negativity. But she's doing the same thing as so many others with these social justice issues in kicking the pendulum the other way. She feels hurt, so she's mostly just getting revenge. Instead of addressing racism as an overall issue, it's become more about being racist to white people. Like Sydney points out, there's dozens of cases where POC are using white culture, and that's deemed acceptable. God of War is a great example. Kratos is Greek and from Sparta. The first few games deal with him running around Sparta, and then he spends the last game in Norway. His voice actor before Christopher Judge was another black man. No one cared because the voices worked, but no one calls them out for having taken the roles when they are neither Greek nor white. It even starts feeling like any time people demand diversity, they are really saying black actors. I can't even think of a character that was changed from white to anything but black when making a new adaptation. Maybe the Inhumans show for a couple characters.

Odds are people of different cultures across all of time wore dreads because it's sort of the most basic way to manage hair with the least amount of work. Sure nice dreadlocks are a lot of work but shit dreadlocks are basically just giant mats of hair from not bothering to maintain your hair at all. Black Lives matter, so "black" people should go to a place where they can be safe and free and have their culture protected and respected. That's segregation. Of course what these groups are implying is they want to keep everything built by American culture and kick out the "white" people, which is segregation. They're looking for control of American resources. That's it. And if your being accused of cultural appropriation and you're not doing it, tell everyone to f*&k off and keep doing what you do. I'm a white/Latino man, I occasionally like to wear sarongs on hot days because they're super comfy (they're also known as lava-lavas depending on what part of the world you're at). One particular hot summer day several years ago I was wearing a sarong and walking down the road just minding my own business, when all of a sudden this pickup truck pulls to the side of the road and stops about 20 feet in front of me. Out steps this 6 foot tall Tongan man (maybe he was Samoan, I'm not sure). Dude's completely *jacked* from head to toe, rippling muscles and definitely not the sort of dude you want to pick a fight with (sorta like a more brown Antonio Banderas lol). This man starts walking towards me with his arms crossed over his chest and I immediately think "Oh god he's going to kill me for cultural appropriation!". When he gets within speaking distance, he smiles and says to me "Hey, I like your sarong. You make me feel right at home!". Yes, this nice Tongan (or Samoan) man legit stopped what he was doing and took time out of his day to get out of his truck and *THANK ME* for celebrating his culture and making him feel like he was at home. So I call bullsh*t on cultural appropriation, it's okay to *appreciate* other cultures.

I think she grew up being told "asian" is her identity, so everything that is asian feels like it's her "culture", when the fact is that her culture is (most likely) american, and she can't speak for neither actual chinese nor vietnamese people who don't really give af about this because they have real problems to deal with.

Maybe proponents of this current mindset need to simply follow the logical conclusion to their feelings. If you don't like men, get all the women who agree to buy women-only cities. The same applies to blacks who don't like whites, buy black-only cities. Instead of assimilation, it becomes a question of integration. Of course, if one suggested that there be a whites-only city, that would be considered bigoted. A city filled with MGTOW would be burned to the ground. I wonder if there is a city that is sane-people only?
