As an American who eats (and has made) "classic american cucumber pickles," this is faintly similar and yet wholly unlike anything I have ever seen presented, made or eaten. This is foreign to me in the same way shoving grapes into a sponge cake, pouring custard on it and calling it "classic english speckled muffin cake" would be to people in the UK. We don't peel or core pickles... ever, really, sweet or dill pickles, or cut them in that size and shape, or serve them solo with bread. All that said it looks delicious and I'm itching to try it, precisely because it feels neither classic nor american.

In America in the summertime we make a cucumber salad that has sometimes seeded and peeled cucumbers and onions in vinegar and water. You might call them refrigerator pickles. Other than that all canned pickles go in whole.

Matthew Brandon Hmmm.... thinking faaar back to my childhood I can remember peeled, (sometimes) cored cucumber salads like this, usually with an italian dressing rather than straight vinegar. I guess it's all about the "traditional american pickle" moniker.

Peeled- yes, cored- no. But never with bread and butter, that's just gross.
