I'm enjoying this story arc of Tom progressively loosing his mind during lockdown. I really hope they don't cancel the show before we get a resolution.

Spoiler for people who haven't read the books, but in chapter 17 the whole story pivots to be about his siblings. It makes sense if you think about it, once he's gone too far off the deep end (and you know that's where this plot line is going) it's kind of impossible to relate and the writers have just basically painted themselves into a corner. It's a change of pace but to be honest I think if you go with it and ignore the stuff about the dead dogs which does become a bit more prominent than necessary I think the family stuff with them all dealing with him is really moving. It's a bit like Kafka's Metamorphosis but with more dice and fewer giant insects. Not zero giant insects, just less than "One" (spoilers! Sorry).

Only partway through the intro, but I had to pause and just cackle for a while because of the card gag, lol

It is delightfully surprising how quickly Tom just figured out the SHUX format, and started executing it perfectly.

I like to imagine Tom getting to a certain point while editing this video and thinking "do you know, I should probably google the rules to Yahtzee before I export this,"

I have fallen in love with this game. It is just so much fun and there is some fascinating strategy in sometimes choosing to bust because it is better than even a great roll at times. So much variability and just so fun.

Looks like it shares some DNA with Qwarriors as well. That's a series of campaign style games where you build up a bag of dice representing warriors and spells and such. Kind of a deck-building game but with a dice pool instead of a deck.

@Wizzykin I agree. I stopped watching studio C because of the cast changes a while back. I will admit I had my doubts about Tom, but he truly is the best for SU&SD

Tom's catchphrase should be: 'I reject your reality and substitute my own'

Cool! A game that pulls the best mechanics out of Quarriors and uses them in a more interesting game! I'm really happy to see that happening. Always felt like there was a bit of magic there with all of the handfuls of custom dice and the variable powers they give based on a deck of cards.

This is the saddest thing I've read all day.

this man out there wearing a KING GEEDORAH T-shirt, you're an absolute legend.

I'm two years late to this one, and I still almost spit my beer out when "fill your boots" came up out of nowhere.

Shoot, you had me sold BEFORE the extra variants dropped in. Wow.

All 5,085 uk copies now sold out.

My thoughts are similar after a similar number of plays. Game is fun, my semi-casual group loved it but were turned off a bit by some of the more crunchy card options, preferring to stick with their favorites. They like it more than Quest for El Dorado but less than Quacks, but not by much. I also agree that the boxes are shit and I plan on replacing them with 3d printed versions as soon as one comes out that I like. Overall it's a super solid game that like it's inspiration Quarriors, will only get better as more content comes out.

It's really good the intro with the changing card sizes 👍

Excellent review, Tom. Purchased it based off your recommendation and looking forward to playing it this weekend.

This reminds me a bit of Formula D in terms of being a dice based, push your luck race around a track.

I imagine next time there will be an alien from the planet Zargoo where they play Twilight Imperium from the age of 4 to learn kids to achieve galaxy domination. Kid always have to play the same Zargonian race which will learn him both history, geology, technology, politics.

Today I learned that "push your luck" is essentially dice-edging

10:34 this gag blindsided me so hard that i spilled my drink on myself.

Not gonna lie, that snapping spaghetti gave my ears a pleasant little tingle.

Cube boy's slo-mo shot wasn't even in shot! If he's going to not do his job at least do what you will do properly!

I just clicked in the video to hear you pronounce "Cubitos". Not disappointed, maybe I'll watch the rest of the video later.

2:44 -- not Yahtzee style, but it IS Farkle style. My family loves Farkle, so the base version of Cubitos might really work for them. Cool!

Honestly surprised Quarriors never got a mention (especially since SU&SD has a video review of Quarriors,) when it seems like the closest game to this minus the push your luck mechanic, and replace the race with a smaller victory track. However great review Tom.

I really hoped 'Alien Tom' would make a 'Take me to your leader' joke after realizing Tom is wearing that amazing King Geedorah shirt
