Cube End Table with Interchangeable Tops - Brass Inlay or Glass
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Watch me show you how I built this Cube End Table with multiple top options real quick. I wanted to experiment with cold cast brass and I also wanted to try a glass top, so I did both.

You know it’s a great Saturday morning when there’s a Shaun Boyd video waiting for me. Great project!!! Love the detail on the maple top. I may try that with my router Great video. You keep me laughing....ordering the glass. Lol.

Haha, I’m cool with being a cube. Thanks man, it’s good to be back!
Shaun, another great video and project. One of the many reasons I love your videos is that you aren't continually pedaling sponsors or products or at least it doesn't feel that way. This is why I prefer your content to Chris Salomone's, which I like but don't love. I understand the need for sponsors just please don't lose or change who you are in the pursuit of social media status. Because you are awesome. This is starting to sound like a self help message, sorry.

Thanks Steve! Yeah, I feel ya with sponsorships and everything, which like you said, are necessary to (barely) make a living doing this sort of thing. But I can definitely say, sponsors or not, I certainly won't change who I am or the way I work. Really appreciate your candor!
Love your designs, Shaun! This one gleamed my smile. Thanks for sharing.

Great design Shaun, difficult choice between the two tops. I agree that the glass one shows off the cube better, though it also is a bit plain, hence I go for the version with “inlay”.

He's baaack! You were missed Mr. Boyd. Did you miss your shop? I like the walnut top better...it looks classy and rich. The glass top is too see-through...maybe tinted glass would have been better. I also prefer a 100% Shaun Boyd video.
@shaunboydmadethis
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Juliet! It was nice to have a little break, but being gone that long got a little stressful. I actually thought about getting tinted glass, but decided to go with clear at the last second, might try tinted down the line on something else. Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things again!
Love everything you do Shaun. One question, what impact does that inlay of brass/epoxy have on the planer and knives? I can't help thinking of melting epoxy and metal gumming up the works.
@shaunboydmadethis
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Clyde! I actually only ran the epoxy/brass through the drum sander, so not sure if it would have done anything to the planer knives. I do have to be sure it is fully cured or it does gum up the sandpaper pretty quickly.
That looks great for such a simple design. I guess as they say sometimes less is more. Which type of the total boat epoxy did you use for the inlay?
@shaunboydmadethis
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott! I used the High Performance 2:1 with the Fast Hardener.
hi Shaun nice piece of furniture. Just one question, do you manage to keep sharp edge on your mitered squares with the sawn side pushed against your parallel fence?
@shaunboydmadethis
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bart! Yeah, I really have never had an issue with it. Just one run along the fence shouldn't do enough to mess up that edge.
Was that a Rodney Mullen clip? I don't really like using glass with wood but that glass version looked superb!
@shaunboydmadethis

I like the Walnut top with the Maple cube. Not sure if the glass goes with Maple but might look better with a Walnut cube. How loud is that air cleaner?
@shaunboydmadethis
5 жыл бұрын
Good call, walnut and glass might be a little more interesting, might try that if I decide to make another at some point. Yeah, the air cleaner is actually very quiet, especially on the low settings. I think the lowest setting is called "whisp-air" or something haha.

Since you use the table saw a lot and with a bunch of different jigs what blades do you use? I am looking to get some new blades but I am not sure what to get. Maybe next video?
@shaunboydmadethis

I pretty much use 2 blades for 99% of the things I do. I use a Forrest Woodworker II for most things, but will switch it out for a Forrest Chopmaster if I am doing a lot of crosscuts, or cutting veneered plywood or something.

My kid has been wondering when you were gonna stand on your projects again. What gauge do you use to check you table saw angle at a 45?
@shaunboydmadethis

Haha, I'm glad I could deliver on this one. And yeah, I use one of those Wixey digital angle gauges to set my table saw blade, though I will often check it with a little speed square if I am needing 45 degree cuts for a box or something that need to be as close to perfect as possible.

I have only used it a couple times. Seems to be a pretty versatile tool, but something that feels a little redundant. I think it would be great for somebody that doesn't have a lot of space for a traditional CNC router, but I imagine it would sit on the shelf a lot if I had one.
