    Amazing tutorial, I would recommend this for anyone to digest who was new to COIN as a great barrier-breaker, so to speak. Always easier to have someone show you the game mechanics, as you're trying to learn. This was clear, concise, and thorough. Kudos!

    Thank you! And you’re right, there’s no substitute for a good teacher aiding you through the game in real time, especially complex games like the COIN series. I’ll be doing that this weekend for Cuba Libre - and yes, I’ll be playing the Gov faction 😉

    This is by far the best tutorial I have found for Cuba Libre. Very clear and comprehensive with the information presented in a logical order. Up there with Rodney Smith “Watch it played”. Thanks so much. New sub here.

    Best video about a boardgame i've seen in a long time. Thankyou. I also believe that this type of games are very useful as a tool to learn history, and apreciated your reflections on that. I'd suggest Pendragon for a future video, but really it's up to you to choose the games that motivate you the most.

    Thank you! Pendragon is one of the few published COIN games I haven’t played yet, and I understand it’s pretty complicated. Whenever I get to playing it, I’ll decide if it’s a game I can help teach. Appreciate the comments!

    I own all the COIN games and have played most of them at least once. Cuba Libre one I’ve played the most, usually as the government in that teaching role. I have only won once as the government, but the game sessions have always been great.

    Cuba Libre is a great start! My other faves are People Power, A Distant Plain, Falling Sky and Gandhi. I have yet to try Pendragon and Fire in the Lake though. I’m glad you like the historical content, but it was thought to keep up that pace of content. I’ll probably try to do some added videos for the future games I teach 😉

    Watching this again for review after branching out into other COIN titles. Again great video I think it is an awesome teaching tool especially for new players to COIN. Would love to see more COIN videos with history lessons mixed in. Question: at 44:51 you redeployed troops to Santiago de Cuba , but there is neither Government control nor a base there. I don't think you can do that unless its Havana. and there are no Government controlled cities. Cuba Libre rulebook 6.4.2

  • @WdTPD

    I'm glad these videos are helpful to you - and YES, good catch! I had to look at the rule again myself as I thought Troops could go to Cities *or* Gov-controlled spaces, but looking closely again at 6.4.2 they must be BOTH so Santiago de Cuba isn't an option for re-deploy in this case. Good eye ;)

    Great video. Really clear and concise. I was given Cuba Libre for my birthday and immediately invested in Fire in the Lake. Love the video, great work! When playing an event, do you do both the shaded and unshaded sections or does the player triggering it get to choose?

  • @WdTPD

    @WdTPD

    Жыл бұрын

    The player triggering the event gets to choose, it's one or the other. And right now I'm blanking, but one tends to favour the COIN Faction (Gov in this case) and the other favours the Insurgents. Played a few COIN games since so I can't remember which it is for CL off the top of my head! Thanks for watching ;)

    @@jimmarshall807 FitL and Pendragon are on my bucket-list. I have played an online game of Falling Sky and really enjoyed it, there's some elements i definitely like in that one but some that seem to make it overly-complicated (battles). All are worth trying once, IMHO! I have yet to play Liberty or Death, or a full game of Colonial Twilight as well.

    20:31 Thanks for pointing that out. I found the wording in the Rules of Play and the Player's Aid a bit confusing with the use of the word "Then..." BTW do you play with the "Deception" chits?

  • @WdTPD

    @WdTPD

    2 ай бұрын

    Nah, those Deception chits are pretty boring, honestly, including the ones that just say "no effect" or whatever. I don't mind games with a bit of hidden information, and I think there is room for that and COIN and COIN-like game (see the latest Gest of Robin Hood) but those chits ain't it for me! Actually, that's what I like People Power for, to throw a wrench in the works with the Personality cards.

    @@WdTPD Expanding on the base placement after Rallying. After playing Andean Abyss recently on rally-the-troops, the game engine confirms that insurgents indeed cannot place a base where they just rallied guerrillas in, but it does allow the Government to place a base where it just trained troops in. Seeing that AA, CL as well as PP all have the same Train operations, that is going to switch our games up quite a bit.
