94 was it. He was so awesome. I almost ended it at the beginning of December a few weeks ago. Closest since the last time I fully tried.. I battle the dark for many people, and never realized it was going to come for me the hardest.once your ready to pull the trigger it takes a lot to not do it. My walls at 17 years old were Shannon. This interview, I needed it for some reason. Probably not the best idea to pull out the Woodstock VHS, but played soup probably 50 times. Much love out there ☮️❤️ one thing I can tell you is that the light is real, but the devil waits until you feel safe to hit you up with that unexpected variable. Like that fateful night for Shannon. Blind Melon was my fav band - never identified with any others as much in my 20s - maybe modest mouse. What a talented group of musicians - the direction they were heading was so good and so promising. That second album is a masterpiece of songwriting and composition. Fuck!

Been putting off listening to the details. Too close. And with my loved one- so many times I feared the relapse death. Always will. Didn’t know that was the case with Shannon. It’s almost like that dose waits for its chance to be lethal enough to f**k everyone’s life. Usually when they’re better. Brutal. Some things will never be right, but I think he’d be so proud of his beloveds.

I think the reason shannon was essentially caught off guard and OD'd on his last night is because he had been sober(ish)(?) and hadn't been using to the degree that he once had, and so he jumped back in, so to speak, and enjoyed one of his standard doses but hadn't maintained the tolerance that he once had, thus tipping him over the edge .. . . .

I always figured Shannon was at the end of a long run of active addiction when he died. But that thought was formed back when I was in high school when it had happened. But now I know that’s not usually how it goes. So to hear Shannon had been healthy and built up a little sobriety beforehand doesn’t surprise me. Modest Mouse wrote a song about it “The Good Times Are Killing Me.” Doesn’t matter if I’m at my lowest point or if things are better than ever-addiction will find me if I’m not doing what I need to do to stay on the path.

I’ve often wondered what the rest of the very talented band has been up to. They created a sound that was so mesmerizing and complete- I hope they are finding success themselves. The biggest problem with “scoring”, is that you never really know what you’re getting. Perhaps it wasn’t just the drug (was it cocaine or meth?), but the trash they use to expand the quantity and make an extra buck could be literally anything. Such a risk.

it's called an addiction, asshole. lots of people want to get clean for their loved ones, but it's an ADDICTION, that takes hold and will send u into withdrawal that feels 10000x worse than the drugs ever could, if u were to suddenly stop. then there's those that do get clean, but bad stuff happens to make them relapse just once and that's all it takes. don't label everyone as a useless junkie unless u know them and their story personally. i promise u, very very few do drugs for fun. most addicts do want to get clean.

Anyone being a "junkie" is not all there is to it, every addict has a story and many, many of them are in a constant battle with that addiction. You must be very young or just an ass to think the way you do. Addiction is not a choice. Starting the use of a substance is a choice but those situations are hardly clear cut themselves. Learn compassion. You don't need to bring or keep an addict in your life but you can stop pushing such an ignorant rhetoric

Exactly I see a lot of people trying to make it some romantic story blah blah . Dude had a heart attack because he did too much Coke. All these people that don’t know doing drugs and overdoses ect. They wanna make it into some Bradley Nowell-sequel chi behind the music story. “didn’t have the same tolerance bc he was sober” yadda yadda🤦‍♂️

You sound so ignorant with absolutely no idea how addiction works. No addict would “choose” drugs over family just because they feel like it. It alters your entire brain chemistry and you literally can’t control it. Don’t talk shit on an experience you know absolutely nothing about.
