The french continuity & news makes it feel even more like some faraway cable channel as itv in the face suggested, even though it was broadcast in PAL than SECAM or NTSC! 😉👍

The official languages of the Channel Islands are English and French where English is currently surpassing French. Guernsey French and Jersey French are minority languages too.

Interesting. Does what is left of Channel provide a French bulletin at the end of the day anymore? Why was it not in ‘Jersey French’?

Think the final announcer was Betty Henwood. The techies she name checked were Micky Tostevin and Kevin Pamplin (?). It was weird after 7PM the three would literally be the only 3 people in the whole building as I'm not sure if they did a late 10.30pm news bulletin then. Yes always an oddity that the French news bulletin was in French and not Jerriais. Tom Scott Warren another announcer was almost the only person in the company who could speak Jersey French.

@@miniplanetgb6822 Of course it could be that because Channel TV's coverage area went well beyond the theoretical borders of the official ITV region, that the station was in fact serving their 'unofficial' viewers in Saint-Germain-sur-Ay or Lessey on the mainland - although watching in SECAM you'd only get black and white. These never publicised spill overs are fascinating. If you look at the BBC transmission maps of BBC Northern Ireland, there is no mention of the obvious coverage there is in the Republic of Ireland, or that the Netherlands has been served by BBC One and Two since the 1960s....

@@MrEurochannel Ireland could receive television from the BBC as early as 1949, when the Sutton Coldfield transmitter in the Midlands of England began transmissions (mostly people along the east coast of Ireland). Then in 1953, when Northern Ireland began to receive the BBC from the Divis transmitter, people along the border regions could pick up, as well as other counties nearby. Even though Ireland only got their own television service (Telefis Eireann, later RTE) on New Year's Eve 1961, many people were receiving British signals long before that. From the 1960's on, about 50 to 60% of the Republic Of Ireland could either receive Northern Ireland transmissions (BBC 1, BBC 2 and Ulster Television with Channel 4 in 1982) or Wales transmissions (BBC Cymru Wales, BBC 2 and HTV Cymru Wales with S4C in 1982). I haven't heard of anyone receiving BBC 1 North West or Border Television, but someone said, the odd time, they could receive Granada Television from Manchester in Co.Wicklow I think. Ireland also got cable television about a decade before Britain, with Dublin City and Waterford City becoming the first to be cabled in the early 1970's. By the mid 1980's most major towns and cities in Ireland could receive cable television.
