Please I need more clarification about CT Scan risk factors and what might happen to patients who are already exposed to the ionizing radiation in the future. What should they do to mitigate this risk. However, others are saying is just a fear mongering, how true?

I'm still confused about this CT SCAN risk vs the benefit, does that mean that Doctors who always recommend CT Scan for their patients are not aware of the risk associated with the ionizing radiation being exposed to? What is the risk associated with single CT Scan Abdomen?

Just to make it simple, CT scan use radiation, MRI does not but it is expensive. MRI is safe .

@@sammyreal12 Let me make it simple, CT scan use ionizing radiation coupled with an electronic detector array to record a pattern of densities and create an image of a “slice” or “cut” of tissue. MRI use Magnetic Field to take the image. So it depends on what health issue you are facing for example If it is not a serious or a cosmatic surgery issue and if you have to do it once and not emergency go for MRI. But if it is a serious health condition and emergency you can go for CT scan, because CT scan is very quickly done and is also cost less unlike MRI. Doing CT scan once may not create that much of a problem, but no one is sure what is the long term issue you might face after CT scan. Although most Dr. say it is ok still there could be issue not major but minor. On the other hand MRi takes 30 - 45 mins to do and is expensive but very safe. No long term health issues

This Dr. has finished me😰😰😰 He recommended CT Scan Abdomen, and when I came back with the result, they said there was NO need for the CT Scan Worst part of it is that, I became sick after this Scan, It's quite unfortunate that I know nothing about it, until after I started experiencing different kind of symptoms I've never had in my life I started loosing weight, loss of appetite, fatigue and chest pain🤦🏽‍♂️ Only to find out that it's the ionizing radiation effect manifesting. What should I do pls, someone should help me. Details 128 slicer CT Scan machine Scanning done in 3 phases Age: I'm in my 20s CT Scan Abdomen (KUB) I'm so curious to know the dose I was exposed to & I'm very anxious of what might happen in the future.

Natural Background Radiation is average if 1.5 - 3 mGy per year. Divide that by 365 days then the by 24 hours. That is radiation dose that does not penetrate your body. 1 CT scan of the chest and Deposits directly inside your body over 1000 mGy in 15 seconds. I leave the calculations and decision making to you. Now how do we know the dose? Average radiation dose is measured and calculated by the CT scanner based on having a pencil type Geiger counter in a centre of a phantom. based on that measurement the CT Scanner calculates the dose length product which is the total dose went inside the patient, for example from top of the brain to the end of the cerebellum. that dose is recorded automatically in the patient file. And in some places with no conflict of interest, the total dose is displayed on the digital image or printed on the film. I call it deposited because that’s the real dose that reached the centre of the body part exposed. Google average DLP in Australia from the ARPANSA website. And next time you get a CT scan ask the Radiographer or Technologist, what was the DLP you received. It is your right to know. I have seen on the CT scanner, some patients receiving over 1.5 Gy in a single CT scan of the brain. there are many beneficiaries who will try anything to lure patients and hide the truth from people and lure them to have a scan. It’s all about the money and not you. You are just dollars in their bank. And there many ignorant people who learnt nothing from their studies and they become teachers with PhD, teaching the new generation deceptive gobbledygook science. They didn’t even bother reading the dose displayed on the CT scanner. you want to know the risks? Read Prof John Matthews research conducted at the Melbourne university and published in the British Medical Journal (2013). There are few other studies at that magnitude done in other countries publishing similar outcomes. the risk of developing cancer from a single CT scan examination is 24% higher than the unexposed general population, and then additional 16% for every additional CT scan. The problem is the misrepair. The cell recovers with a modified genetic molecular structure. That cell takes over within 7 to 15 years such as leukemia (some will take 40 years). Then we put the patient under a horrific treatment which is a slaughter of their cells, hoping mutant cells die first as they have higher vascularity, then we look for a donor hoping we give them molecular structure close to the original DNA, including neurogenesis. Obviously it doesn’t always work. A NSW Health TV commercial (you may still find it online), used to say there is nothing healthy about a Tan (obviously because of UV radiation). Same applies to x-ray, there is nothing healthy about any ionizing radiation. And there is no chance, even with smaller doses such as chest x-rays, to escape some cell death and misrepaired cells. Obviously Radiologists in countries who never ever studied molecular biology and radiogenesis, will tell you the risks are minimal. How many molecules do they think starts mutation including cancer? The answer is one. According to CT scanners, the average deposited dose in the brain, is an average of one million microgray per one non-contrast CT examination of the brain, where hundreds of millions of photons penetrating the patient’s head causing radiation assault to an unmeasurable number of brain cells. I will let you make a sum of the risk. Radiologists and ignorant radiation physicists use an unscientific flawed formula that was never to be used in medicine cunningly named (Effective Dose), and they will tell you the risk is 2 mSv. They have to, don’t they? Otherwise they will have no business or jobs. People’s life is worth 250 dollars to their practice, that’s what they get from Medicare. Smokers face the same misrepair risks. Majority survive simply because the damage is benign. Unfortunately, some die from passive smoking, especially kids, in both smoking and x-rays. However, the risks from CT are drastically higher than smoking. The radiation dose to the brain is equal to 4 fractions of radiation therapy to the Thyroid. Sadly, another unscientific frequented myth is tissue weighting risk factors. People with the conflict of interest and the ignorant in radiobiology, will tell you, that the sensitivity of the brain is minimal. Not sure how they figured that out. Epidemiological studies has proven the opposite. If there is judgement day, Sievert will burn in hell for eternity.
