Crysis 3: 4 Years Later

Ойындар

I poured my soul into this video. It gave me back PTSD and an aneurysm. Sony Vegas was agonising to work with (first time use).
I crashed like a suicidal F1 test driver. It took me 3 weeks to produce, which is record time. I am sorry for that, but I am so glad it's finally behind me. I am proud of the final product, and I am incredibly excited for what comes next. Thanks to Joseph Anderson for shouting me out last video. And thanks to Raycevick for not sending a hitman after me for using his format.
Twitter: @thelightiswhite
I said in my review that I wanted to take a critique style format to the campaign because I felt it better suited the game, and I knew I would have enough time. Well, in truth, that's only 90% of the reason. The other 10 comes down to soundtrack. Crysis 3's tracklist is remarkabley unremarkable. Slavov did deliver us the excellent What Are You Prepared To Sacrifice though, which, if you're here looking for music, is what you're looking for.

Btw this game was part of what I like to call "the 2012 bow and arrow phase" where every form of media had a character using a bow and arrow. The avengers, Hunger games, Arrow.

so i was way late to the crysis 1 party but by the time i got around to it, it had been so outclassed by other games, that i was bored within a half hour. The AI was just... not great, the visuals were excellent but by 2012 or so nothing special, the gameplay was outdone by FarCry3, the narrative outclassed by many in the same genre. lmao i get that this has no correlation to the joke, a solid 10/10 btw, just felt like sharing

In the 3rd, the 1st i plaied, i was more stealphy. But i was playing 1 some days ago... and i just cant play how its supposed to play, i suck tbh, i end up hiding somewhere while the A.I comes to me and i shoot them all behind a rock xD or i snile them from a far. In 3 you only have armor or cloak mode, but in 3 you have also speed mode and strenght mode, speed mode makes sense in the vig island, can see why they removed it from crysis 2 and 3, there is no room to run, 2 was linear and 3 was bigger but not as 1. Havent finished 1 yeat, but should be close, what i liked more was fighting the aliens, and i think i prefer the aliens in crysis 1, the blue and their design, i think its very cool, and the graphics on the snow were so good, 2007 game. Crysis 3 had the bow and that was brilliant, even that dont play much single player games ended up playing slower, i dont like stealth alot... even in multiplayer as a sniper i play agressive. If i had to choose, next crysis game would be in the island again, i think open world is cooler

i beg to differ. he gives WAY too much credit to a series that was totally bum-fucked after the awful sequel came out. one was the best. 2 was just bad. 3 was the fucking worst. nothing changed, it wreaked of hack-job because it came out not too long after 2. the story was garbage. i mean for gods sake. Alcatraz is never even brought up. so i guess we are supposed to just forget that there is AN ENTIRE PERSON INSIDE THE SUIT THAT ISNT PROPHET!? EA took what could have been a good series and fucked it over just so they could milk it dry. i knew the series was dead the moment i saw what the seph looked like in the second game. it was at that moment i knew EA didnt give a shit. the aliens were red instead of blue, and the "they survive in cold environments" was completely dropped. and their tech look SO FUCKING DIFFERENT!!!! for fucks sake we dont even know what the hell happened to nomad. let alone how he got prophet off the island.

Not to nitpick but the "fucking drills" on the Alpha Ceph actually make quite a bit of sense once you take into consideration that the Alpha Ceph is both a fuckoff massive snake and the ultimate high value target. Something *that* important *must* be hidden; something *that* large is *difficult* to hide; underground is pretty much the only option... one that lo and behold, the Alpha Ceph is very well suited to, with it's snake-style mobility for wriggling around through underground burrows, and drills to create said burrows in even the toughest of materials. It's actually a brilliant little glimpse into the total Ceph hive's tactical awareness, regarding strengths, weaknesses, and relevant tactical implications for their widely varied anatomies. The Alpha Ceph's role is telepathic upper management, and thus it's equipped to dig out a suitable lair then work from home like it's 2020. :P It's *our actions in-game* that necessitate it take personal action in combat, for which it's (clearly) not designed or well suited. Why you think Mastermind's Theme bops so much harder? THAT'S the real high-tier Ceph combat unit, Alpha Ceph is just a pencil pusher... XD

Honestly, the Crysis series really does prove some controversial points incontrovertibly: taking a title, no matter how great or successful, and placing the console market as the primary focus will kill the game or series if originally on PC, greed and lacking or waning passion can cripple a game more than a lack of resources, and that there are times where despite the actual quality and substance of a game being the best in the market, you will still be ravaged by the casual majority who will prefer a simpler gameplay palette regardless of the cost. When Crysis 3 came out, people vastly preferred the simpler titles like Battlefield and CoD to Crysis due to its complexity and alien feel.

  • @harolrvez7124

Yoshii crysis did not take console market primarily, it was expanded to console. Proof ? 1. The second and third installment was way more beautiful on PC. You can see difference quite big, its like they made 2 versions 2. Unlike modern games today, crysis franchise is very friendly to the low end pcs despite the meme. Take far cry 3 for instance, despite having worse graphics, it requires better specs, more storage.

The franchise was never just about graphics, it has optimizations too. Csgo, Black Mesa is both graphically inferior but run 10x worse that crysis. The Xen update is nowhere near crysis 1’s alien cave but still somehow manage to fuck up my PC harder than crysis did which is stupid.

This comment may be 4 years old but it's bad even for 2019. So what you've stated is completely false and proven incorrect by the very games you mentioned as "simple". The best Battlefield game is still Battlefield Bad Company 2, which was built for consoles first and foremost. People forget that PC was the priority for the Battlefield franchise before the Bad Company games. And the preceding PC titles were thoroughly outclassed by BC2. It was also far more successful financially. Call of Duty also didn't reach its peak until it became a console focused franchise. So from a financial standpoint, you're incorrect. But even more so, y'all aren't ready to have this conversation. This may piss off PC players, but 80% of the greatest games ever made are console games. Do you wanna know why? Because limitations are a boon for a development team's focus and creativity. Contrary to popular belief, just because a development team can do more on the PC platform, doesn't necessarily mean they should. Even Crysis is a great example here. Because as well known as the first Crysis is for being a PC focused wrecking ball of graphical fidelity, Crysis 2 is still by far the best game in the franchise even it wasn't the most successful financially. In fact, Crysis is not proof that PC games can't succeed if they focus on console. It's actually an exception. Not to that, but the opposite. That PC games focusing on console will inevitably have more success. Now perhaps in the year 2023, it's a more balanced era of the industry as PC has more of a market. But don't get it twisted. Historically speaking, you're absolutely dead wrong.

@@carteljameson8395where did you get your "80% of the greatest games ever made are console games" from? And yes, restrictions can force the need to be creative about some things, but that doesn't mean a) that creativity needs such restrictions or b) that it improves a game's quality. That whole paragraph just sounds like baseless statements with no substance.

dont get me wrong i love prophet, first game is the one the greatest. But with alcatraz, the series got something bigger theme wise, the darker shift it took, i loved it. And without being over the top. Crysis 2's story gave me the assurance that the franchise buliding direction is awesome. The gameplay being restrictive reflected the new themes, i didnt mind. The stark contrast from the warhead and the first game seemed logical since alcatraz wasnt trained like prophet was. But Crysis 3 jumped the shark, instead of building up and owning what crysis 2 did they doubled back down. I know it wasnt the game mechanics, but when i play as prophet there are no stakes. The dude is crazy strong, oh there are new aliens, bring them on. You always feel OP . And that is the major problem for me, along with all the stuff you said about simplifying the mechanics of the game. I know this game has been talked about till death. But, hope you read +whitelight. As someone who is playing this series from a very young age. Im 20 years old. peace ✌

@@Whitelight Crysis 2 served cephs as something that we can not understand, and at the same time is very simple. These are not aliens, these are the garden tools of aliens who had to change because the local weed (us) turned out to have some military power. That's why their design is so different between 1 and 2 games. They adapted to us, started copying us, started making new cephs out of us. If their cephs are so complex and advanced, what are their creators? This is really scary. Crysis 3 just takes and shows them as just bad aliens that can be relatively easily defeated. So it is also a very lousy fake in the direction of Halo 4 and its stories about the soldier's duty, humanity, and how war can turn a person into a machine. The fact that Crysis looks at the halo string is not a secret at all. Cevat openly said that Crysis is the PC answer to Halo CA. That's why they are so similar structurally. One of the reasons why I like Crysis 2 so much, she's pretty independent. And no. Alcatraz did not sacrifice himself, the Prophet just stole his body, they fought for his control and the Prophet won, so says the book, which was the backstory of the third game.

I absolutely loved the crisis games and I think I am going to rerun through them all again! Also I think what draws attention to ur channel (at least for me) is u have a much more human approach when doing your retrospectives/critiques. When i say this I mean you often walk the line of being serious while humerous. A lot of the channels that do these sorts of videos are too often robotic or harsh. Your tone of voice elevates to the emotion of what ur speaking/feel about and its what makes me constantly watch ur channel (when I have time as work can be demanding). I really wish you had played on super soldier difficulty, one of the very few times where the hardest difficulty is the best in my opinion. You die super quick, but the enemies do too. It makes you feel like an absolute badass by making you fragile, which sounds dumb but it's true. Dying so fast means you have to utilize everything at your disposal, which is obviously not unique to Crysis 3, but the main difference is that you can actually fight the enemies. It isn't unfair. You can't sustain heavy fire, but you don't die instantly. You have time to react and take action. There are so many systems that you ignore in the easier difficulties that you use on Super soldier. For example, grenades. I never used them because it was both faster and easier to shoot the enemy, but on super soldier they're safe damage, making enemies run from cover or killing outright. They also fixed hacking by making it really risky. I refer specifically to Cell missions here, because the other missions.... Yeah.

Great video and awesome to see your progression as a critic. This really might be your best video yet compared to Minecraft and Battlefield 1 (which offer invaluable information, but the style was still too rough). On the topic of this game - it is such an awkward franchise. If anything, at the end it's a good lesson on how to make a franchise. The ego of the devs concieved it and killed it at the end. And I don't mean that in a negative way. If you have the means and the chance comes - you have to have an ego and try your best. And that's what Crytek did.

You're entirely wrong about the God Mode and the Overpowered Suit. That is the Ultimate Factor of theese games. The fact that you are a Perfect, Cold, Hard, Logical (Killing) Machine and wipe out and entire alien invasion almost by yourself. But all that power comes at a great cost. Your Humanity. You can feel those two conflicting throughout the whole Game and in the final mission it is the machine side that is in control. "No... I'm not like you... Not like you, at all. I'm Better than you! Heh!" Best line I've ever heard. It's as if he accepts that he's on the same scale as the Alpha Ceph (An Inhuman Sinister Being) but at the same time vastly superior, kindah like an Anti-hero moment. You can feel Prophet going mental kindah like Hargreave in Crysis 2 due to the final conflict between him and the Alpha Ceph. And then when the fight is over and he gets launched off to space he snaps out of it and uses more courage than fearless Logical Machine Decision making to get to the Satellite. And then in the Island (That is Actually Lingshan btw) he lets go of his "Prophet" machine identity by throwing his Squad's Dog Tags into the sea. Honestly he's pretty much in denial at that point, I'd just embrace my machine-like state of mind... But that's just me. Infact I could even say this is my favourite mission of the Trilogy, even though my favourite one is 2 (I consider it my favourite game actually)... What can I say I'm a sucker for overpowered conflicted dramatic characters. Which is why I also like the Hulk (Preferable the 2003 one, although 2008 wasn't terrible), Ghost Rider, Symbiote Spider-man (Yes I liked Spider-man 3 and infact I could say it's my favourite of the Trilogy), Kratos (The old one not the soycucked babysitter), The Dark Prince from PoPTTT, Devil Jin and Bryan Fury from Tekken (well Bryan's pretty much just fucking sadistic and Deranged honestly XD) and the Doom Slayer as well but it was cooler back when it was implied that he was the Betrayer, his self Hatred (along with the obvious Hatred for Demons) would give meaning to his endless undying rage. It made him feel less human and more like a force of Nature. Now he's just Angry Man... Showing his face and him without the armor was also bad, along with "humanizing" the armor (Transparent Visor, Sleeveless, etc), the new Glory Kill Blade is badass tho and the new Glory Kills are much more brutal and less comedic than the original. Wow that's a long comment.

I like to think of Warface as a multiplayer-based sequel/spin-off. I think this because: A) The music shares a very similar style, and hell, it’s possible they could’ve remastered some obscure Crysis songs. B) It uses some modern-future elements, like the uniforms and weapons for modern, and same for future elements. C) You can even get the nanosuit, and with some modifications, like the Rifleman having a vest, Medic and Engineer classes will get different shapes of the helmets and visors, and the Sniper class has a leafless ghillie suit. D) It uses similar mechanics, such as customizing your guns on the fly, and also being able to select things with the D-Pad. E) It seems a lot like a sequel to Crysis 3, because there are no more things about aliens, obviously because they were obliterated. F) It also feels like a spin-off because you only play as a regular soldier, not a super soldier. Nano soldier? I can’t remember what they’re called. In a similar way of Halo 3 ODST, y’know what I mean? I just like to think of it this way. I understand that they are pretty much entirely different universes and the Nanosuits are just a reference to the Crysis series, but I like it.

It just sucks we won't get a Crysis 4 ever. That's how we are cursed.

Damn, the thought and effort you put in to this was immense. I've never seen a video with so much emotion in it before. You really cared about the series and while I did start out the series with Crysis 2. I then played Crysis 1 and then 3. To this day I prefer 1 over the others and after playing Crysis 1 I can see how Crysis 2 felt like a slap in the face.

I was just looking for Crysis 3 gameplay and stumbled upon this. Used to play Crysis 2 back in the day and never tried 3. Thanks for a super informative video. There are many channels that take the time to create long, thought out videos. This one is no exception. Well worth a sub.

    Crysis isn't a 3A game. It's a 5A game.

Not going to lie, it was worth my time. This video made me appreciate Crysis 3 so much more, but also understand why I had a hard time enjoying playing it. Excellent job!

You earned yourself a sub man. Great job! I have never been so captivated during an hour long video, good job. You seem like you're cutting your teeth in some areas but seriously amazing video! :-)

Thanks, Whitelight. I appreciate someone who has taken the time to give an actually thought-out and human critique of the game and why it failed, despite having such potential and love put in the series. Keep it up.
