Cheers for this mate. I was looking for a dipstick for a while before I realized it might not exist. These cars are notorious for being lemons, especially the pre 2013 autos. As soon as you fired up yours I cracked up because of the same little ticking sound from the top end.

I thought in my head when he started it up ...ah Hah his sounds just like mine. 2013 the lifters be ticking like the oil is empty lmao😅😅 but sad part is oil is fine it just really sounds like that...

Thanks great video, as soon as I seen this it refreshed my memory... and yer, once that side nut is off and nothing comes out its low... lol, once filled the trans stopped grabbing once over 80kms well I think, but it now changers gears a lot smoother as well...

Whats your knowledge of the 6T40 Auto Trans.... as mine is slipping. I am reading tge Sonnax tech manual and its seems its the clutch plates. I have 2 6T40 to rebuild.

How much quarts did that transmission take?

Hello kills watt garage, i have s 2012 Chevy Sonic ltz 1.8. so once i add the 4 quarts of transmission fluid back into the system. I drive around shift thru the gears right? What about checking the fluid? I have a big 3 ton steel jack i bought from harbor freight. Do i jack the car up to check the fluid. I've tried this process before and I'm scared because i want to do it right. The first time i added too much fluid?

Car has to flat and level for the fluid check. Take it for a good drive as transmission fluid needs to be hot about 85C or 185F

How many liters of transmission fluid does it take ? And thanks for the process demonstration .

Hey, simple drain and refill is about 4 L. But the transmission and converter hold about another 4 L.

It's a "spill n fill" style procedure, essentially buy a 5l jug, pull the drain plug (11mm after a short drive to get to operating temps) and fill cap, if there's no trans fluid (dexos-6) running out, top it off until a dribble starts to run down the case of the transmission, than put the transmission plug back in, screw on the fill cap and go for a test drive

If it’s leaking like most eventually do then you’ll end up topping it off every so often (which is a bandaid to a broken bone)

Also make sure your car is level.

Does the radiator and transmission have some relation with each other?

there is a heat exchange between them as transmission lines run internally in the radiator.

Noice vid mate. My Holden Cruze transmission has changed at 30000 ks. Under warranty. Just got over 200000 and I notice it's slipping a little and bit slow changing gear. I don't know if I should do a transfusion of all the fluid or get it serviced. Was a cab driver for 20 years and mechanic would always said It like opening Pandora's box. Changing fluid ever fix it or be the end of the trannie. In the cabs these just leave it till the gearbox died. What's your thoughts. I thinking maybe checking the level and eating a bottle of Lucas trannie conditioner.

Just did one with black Transfluid but it did not smell burnt so I changed it 5 quarts out 5.5 qt in Shifts great now

Thanks mate. I am not flash with cars. My 17 year old son has bought a 2012 Cruz only 4 days ago. (not happy him buying a model and make that no longer exist - but the model name must have got him). We went over some basics, but could not find the dip stick for the auto transmission. So, just to get this right: this car doesn't have one? We will need to unscrew a cap, then guess how much fluid needs to be poured in? Then to check if there is enough fluid, we have to undo a bolt/nut and bleed some fluid? Is that correct, please?

PS How can you check if the fluid is dirty or not, please - same procedure? Further, did you need to take off the tyre to undo the side bolt for bleeding?Thanks once more.

Yes Add Lucas Transmission treatment.

Any way to tell if you overfill? I mean a "little" bit of coming out check valve is not a perfect science

That's not the right procedure. You must drive the car in second gear for about 15 mins to get the transmission fluid up to 185F and you check it with an OBD2 Scanner. With the car level and running in park, bolt fully removed, If the fluid is flowing steadily, wait for it until it begins to drip and that means the level is right ✅️

@@GadGetHackss so them good scan tools they got at shops my guy a good mechanic.. he did my trans lines I was a qaurt low .. but I’m at a 100 k in the Cruze and I feel like my fluid needs to be change but wouldn’t he have been able to see the trans fluid color if it was bad or the trans fluid temp on the computer if the trans fluid was burning way to hot and would there for need to be flushed?

do we need to let the engine running while filling the fluid?

Check with engine running. you can fill with engine off if you want. Level rises with engine off.

I can't believe they vented a transmission from a transmission filler cap to the coolant reservoir. I thought it was going inside the coolant reservoir at first glance! Now after looking more carefully, I see that it is just hanging on it and not going inside. My 2011 Cruze 1.8 does not have a vented transmission fill cap like yours.

I was just checking the transmission level on a friend's 2011 cruze and noticed this in the video as well. I followed the other tubes and thought "this is the reservoir for radiator coolant.. why would a hose be connected from here to the transmission fill cap?". thankfully there wasnt a breather hose on the friend's cruze either, so nothing to scratch my head over after watching this video.
