Crushing & Panning Gold From An Oxidized Outcrop!

We extracted high grade gold ore from a gossanous, conglomerate outcrop, crushed the ore with a portable rock crusher and panned in a nearby creek to remove the coarse gold! Very high grade gold was found for the amount we panned out, loads of iron sulfides found with the gold.

It's true, a "clay layer" usually does keep pacers on top the layer, however, I got fooled once by a clay layer on North Clear Creek, just downstream from Black Hawk, CO. Turned out (after watching a KZread video post a few years later) a guy found decent gold BELOW the clay layer coincidentally at the exact same spot I had prospected!

Same at barkerville way back when everyone was working the river. Everyone else dug to the blue clay layer and stopped when they got good gold. Billy Barker dug down past the clay and at 52 feet struck the riches that made the area famous.

Hey brother I got some information for you the grade that you found is really high grade but what it looks like to me is whenever you find ore that has purple in it it's either gold mixed with aluminum or gold mixed with tin but you can't really pan that you would have to extract it by dipping it into aqua regia and precipitating it out if it doesn't precipitate out then you have to drop a piece of copper in there and then start over again but it'll work

Not a bad return for the time you spent, although it might have been quicker without the escaping bucket of panning material - I know because I've had the same thing happen on a steep wet slope as well. Not always, sulfide bearing samples which contain gold in the sulfides are a little trickier, without the proper refining equipment you wouldn't get full recovery. Crushing is always a good test for free mill gold but you can also miss gold bearing sulfides.

Sulfide minerals, are a combination of iron and sulfur. As an example, iron pyrite is a portion iron and a portion sulfur, chalcopyrite is copper, iron sulfur, galena is lead, silver, iron, sulfur. Sulfides often contain valuable elements that make them ore or rocks worth mining for there content. There are hundreds of different sulfide mineral combinations.

I'm not sure that you need stone crusher, hammer and so on for prospecting. The nature have done all for you, for free. Just grab a bucket of clear deposit from the nearest ground. And btw be more aggressive with panning. The gold is heavy and as such its need more power to sink. And dont swirl! Dan Hurd with his 10 Tip and Tricks can teach you well ;) glhf
