I have genuinely seen someone do this, I was so shocked because I'd been going around asking loads of different people to try and no one could, then this guy puts it being his back (so he doesn't get egg in his eyes) and it just explodes 😂 He did a lot of rock climbing so his grip strength would be way above average ;p

I could still see the egg when it was behind his back and I don't recall seeing anything unusual (this comment is 2 years old so I doubt my memory is perfect)

I doubt anyone has ever done it. I've made other videos where I have people stand on my hands, and a scale under my hands. Up to 265 pounds no egg has ever broken! Nobody has that much grip strength. The people who crush eggs with one hand cheat. Perhaps a weakened egg, cold brittle egg, crushing it in the easy direction, wearing a ring or having something tiny and hard in their hand that cracks the egg.

@@MultiPleaser I will have a look at your standing on egg videos...did you try different angles? I did witness him do it and I didn't notice him do anything unusual with his hand, nor was he wearing a ring. I can't find any information online about how much force is required when evenly distributed over the surface, so I have no way of knowing if it is indeed feasible for a strong grip to break it. Edit: You say up to 140 pounds of pressure at the start of this video and the grip record is 157 pounds per square inch

HowToBasic can do that for 2 seconds

There is a trick. If you wrap your fingers all around it and squeeze with whole hand you cannot break it. But if you wrap all your hand around it the same eye and squeeze with only the middle finger you can break it and it'll look the same as when you couldn't. That's how you win bets with guys

No the real reason is because egg shells are strong. They have a compressive strength of around 170x10^6 N/m^2. When you factor for the cross-sectional area of an egg, it's around 8x10^-5 m^2, plugging in the numbers means that theoretically an egg (lengthwise) could support a load of 1.4*10^4 N. This math above only works if the stress is evenly distributed across the egg. Due to the egg's unique shape, the stress is distributed evenly, but only when you squeeze lengthwise. When you squeeze it across the minor axis it ends up breaking because the stress doesn't evenly distribute across the material. Also there's a lot more to it than is expressed above, but this gives a good enough idea.

I’ve done this before I’ve been using grip trainers a while. It was funny cause 90% of the egg flew out and hit my brothers face

For some reason I can only crush it with my left hand, but my right hand is the dominate hand. I am confused.

I tried to prove to my sister that you can't do it no only with one hand but even two cause last time I attempted I couldn't at all but then It exploded everywhere when I used 2 hands this time, it was really hard though.

I do warm mine up to make sure they aren't brittle, but I've never tested cold eggs.

I tried it. Wasn't very hard, I even thought it was a joke just to get me to bust the egg all over myself. Just posted the video, not very good quality but if you look closely you can see I palm the egg correctly and it was obviously not cracked before because of how it just exploded in my hand. This video was just taken for fun and didn't even imagine posting it to KZread so it's authenticity isn't extreme but hey, better than no video right ?

The science teacher in my 10th grade showed us this and stated this as fact. I told her I can break the egg no problem without my thumb... she said no it's not possible. So I said okay can I try and she handed it to me, I looked at her and said okay no thumb and made a thumbs up then turned my hand over so the thumb was off to the side... I asked if she was sure the egg wouldn't break.. she said yes. So I clamped my paw slowly and tightened it with my grip.. it not only broke it exploded and yoke went literally wall to wall in the classroom..... so yes it is pretty hard, but anyone with outstanding grip strength can do it. Kinda like holding an apple one handed and smashing it to bits.. There are guys rolling frying pans into the shape of metal cigarettes or even ripping a phone book in half across the binding (not the leveraged trick grip way either). So they should preface things like this with 'most' humans cannot do it... but there is always someone out there up to the challenge. Now I believe if you tried to hold the egg top point to bottom point vertically oriented with your thumb on the bottom point and your index and middle fingers on the top point... that might be a challenge just about nobody could complete without the egg canting and breaking just b/c of grip failure causing it's rotation.
