I think this will also be a breakingpoint in our relationship but i have always told her its my dream to sail and if i can make it i will do so no matter what. But you can always make compromises maybe if she doesnt want to stay on boat all the time she stays home with her friends (not sure how good this owuld work)

Someone commented (to me) the other day about how wonderful winter is here in Maine and I responded: "It's better in the Bahamas!" Just stumbled across your video. I have just looked up a little about Lady K that you describe as a Hughs 35 (also I believe known as a Northstar 35/1500) designed by Sparkman and Stevens and described as once a racing boat. Lets back up a little because I find many modern day sailors don't know too much about this. In the sixties and seventies a yacht racing handicap system evolved called the IOR. Boats were measured and obtained a rating. Designers started designing boats that rated well and a boat could be slow for its size but fast for its rating. Many of these yachts had quite distorted hulls, wide beam, narrow sterns, masthead rig with HUGE genoas etc. A distinct style of yacht evolved and the Hughs 35 is an IOR style yacht. Further competitions evolved where boats of the same rating would race each other the 'ton' classes quarter, half, three-quarter, one and two ton being the most common. The term 'ton' has nothing to do with weight but long story short relates to a French yacht racing trophy of the 1890(?)s. Many of these racing 'ton' designs were then produced as racer/cruisers such as the Hughs 35. Lady K traces her origins to a three quarter ton design. Modern designs are not designed to IOR rules and are better for it but that said a lot of old IOR yachts are good solid boats that come well equipped and make adequate cruisers. Google IOR you strike me as the sort of person who might be interested in this stuff. Also google the Admirals Cup an international team sailing event sailed in the UK under IOR.

When I'm was asked how much does it cost to go cruising, I say whatever you have. If you have very little money, that what it costs; if you have lots, that how much it costs (you buy lots of toys and a watermaker). Interestingly, the view from the cockpit of a 28 footer is the same as from a 60 footer.

Jc Regal a long tow line for sure. A driver for the whaler if it gets crazy would help. Cross to Bimini on a nice day and no issue there. Anchoring is something to consider too. The whaler will swing entirely different than the sailboat when the tide changes. I’d likely sister it up at anchor with some good fenders. You can do it but play it safe. If it squalls, have someone drive it I think.
