Right? Had me all confused too since no hyperflashing was going on and I swore the cruise worked before doing the tail lights lol. Glad I could help and thanks for the feedback!

I cured my hyper flash issue with a flasher relay under the drivers side dash specially made to mimic the resistance of halogen bulbs. NuVista I believe makes them. Now to add a resister to get back my cruise.

My pickups damn near identical to yours, same tail lights, color and everything except mines a gmc. Pretty cool

I salute you for teaching this and everything is spot on... But the taillight itself is literally the LAST place to mount the resistor unless there is no moisture whatsoever where you live...all automotive lighting is built completely sealed for a reason. They mount easily straight back in the bed, facing towards you. 🤘

That’s why I made sure not to pierce the interior of the light housing with the screw! This way no moisture gets in 😃

If you don't use the shrink butt connectors, a great way to avoid any corrosion is to always use dielectric grease inside the connectors! I always put grease in any electric connection and it hasn't failed me yet! And I live in the northeast part of the country! Just a tip.

Thanks for the video, same thing happened to me with my cruise control, so will try looking at this. I noticed on your initial test drive you have what looks like the death wobble, so hopefully you replaced your tie rods, idler and pitman arms! Just did mine last weekend, she rides much better now.

Amazing video, makes a you wonder about the cruise vs lights. I know they make flashers just for LED's I wonder if those flashers impact the cruise as well? Owner is 2002 Silverado thinking about LED lights!

Yeah I thought about that as well. I’m thinking the relay may not fix the issue though because the flasher only seems to come into play with the blinkers. I didn’t even get any hyperflashing after my LED tail lights like some guys do. It might be worth a shot though just so see if that also works haha

I got hyperflashing, lost my cruise, and the trailer brake box started throwing codes. The hyperfix flasher did not cure the cruise or brake box. Resistors next! Although i'm thinking that mounting to the body would help dissipate heat better, have to deal with the body rust some way...

I own a 04 Silverado and I’m experiencing the same thing but my taillights are halogen except for the reverse and side marker, the only thing that I would think it would affect is probably the headlights since it’s all led, I added a flasher relay but would it be best to add resistors on the headlights ?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the headlights are ties into the cruise control, just brake lights. If the cruise suddenly quit working after bulb replacement, then I'm certain it's light related, but if cruise has not been working for a while, it is likely something else. I'd start by checking the brake light fuse in the fuse box under the hood. Should be a 10A for the center high mount brake light and a 10A for the vehicle stop lamps.

I have a 2004 Tahoe. I also changed out my tail lights to LEDs and noticed this same problem. Thanks for the video. I am going to try this and see if this works.

@@Joshuapsalm Correct. You need resistors to fix the cruise.

my truck (2003 silverado 1500, basic trim package with manual windows etc) did not have hyper flash after the instal of led tail lights, but the cruise control did stop working. To fix this problem, you only need one resistor wired in the passenger side tail light. wiring one in the driver side wasn't necessary for me at least.

Same problem with a 2005 GMC Canyon.

I put some LEDs on my 06 gmc Sierra 2500 HD.. everything is fine with my cruise control.. but during the day I have hyper flash, and at night or once the drls turn off and headlights turn on, my blinkers do not work at all.. do you know if these steps will fix my problem also? thank you by the way for the video man

Sounds like something to do with auto headlights so maybe the DRL sensor but that’s odd I’ve never personally had that issue. Resistors still might be your answer.

You used a self taper for the bracket and mount?

I actually drilled holes then used normal screws, but self tappers would also work! Just pay attention as to where you're screwing in since self tappers are generally a bit longer. Don't want a screw coming through the inside of the tail light so you see it through the lens.

I have the same problem. Did your led tail lights come with built in resistors? Mine did, but have seemed to have quit.

It’s definitely possible, but I swear I had this issue before doing my 3rd brake light. And my 3rd brake light appears to have a resistor wired in lol.

Those lights already have resistors in them to avoid hyperflash, it's just the brake light circuit that affects cruise control on these trucks, and they don't have a resistor on that

Hello, I have a Jeep Compass 2018. When I bought it, it was new. I see that it consumes a lot of oil, it does not even reach 5,000 miles and it no longer has oil. Sometimes it tells me it changed oil and sometimes it does not and I have to carry an extra bottle of oil. What can I do? my friend

It’s either burning the oil or leaking it out if you can’t even go 5,000 miles without adding any. Any leaks will need to be fixed and if there’s no leaks, then the engine is worn out and needs rebuild or replace.

As someone who has never used cruise control, do the lights cause any other problems? Or will I not pass smog if cruise control is not working like is there something in the system that would not cause it to pass smog?

I’m not sure what’s all entailed with smog testing since my state doesn’t do vehicle inspections, but as far as I’m aware, cruise is the only thing that won’t work. If you switch the front blinkers to LED in addition to the tail lights, you will get hyper flashing but that’s it.

Did you also do LED tail lights? I wouldn't think the fog lights should have anything to do with cruise. My fog lights are actually missing currently and the cruise works.

I don’t think the front DRL’s in LED will cause you any issues with the cruise, just the tail lights. My 3rd brake light came with a resistor already on it. The only issue I can see with front LED is if you switch blinker bulbs to LED, they might hyper flash. Just need an LED flasher relay to fix that.

And I replace the cruise control module because I think the mine didn’t work but is the same issue a few days ago when I was driving the cruise control light turn on on my cluster but I don’t push any buttons

So for me in my 04 the LED tail lights worked fine with a stock third break light. It was only after I made my third break light an LED that I had this problem.

Yeah, I changed the 3rd brake light right around the same time as the tail lights, but only noticed the cruise issue after the tail lights, so I'm not sure which one did it for me. Either way though, this SHOULD fix the issue for you.

@@chrismiles2000 If you're positive that the resistors are good and the wiring is solid/done correctly, then yeah. If your 3rd brake light is LED and didn't come with a resistor wired in, I've heard of issues from that.

Third brake light should have been an LED from the factory. I know my 2004 Tahoe has a factory LED third brake light pretty easy to deduce from the connector if nothing else. My guess is your aftermarket third brake light installed they had higher resistance values or lower resistance values I'm not sure how all this works but I bet they put the stock LED third brake light back in it Define

Doesn’t make any sense whatsoever why the cruise wouldn’t work, maybe the computer is looking for the resistance in the stock bulbs to disable the cruise control, great find and fix 👍😁

Yeah, pretty sure that’s the reason. I think the computer detects a “break” in the brake circuit due to low power draw from LED’s, then assumes something is wrong with the brakes and disables the cruise. The front blinkers are still incandescent, so that’s probably the only thing that was keeping mine from hyper flashing with the turn signals. Glad this fixed the issue though, not having cruise bothers the heck out of me 😂

Assuming all of your wiring is done correctly, you probably need an LED turn signal flasher, whish draws less amperage. I didn't have any issues, but if you have LED front turn signals also, then that's probably your issue.

My cruise and my brake lights quit working after installing leds. Anyone else have both quit working? I'm going to install these and see if it fixes everything.

So, I bought a LED brake light kit for my 2003 Tahoe, and like you, found out by experience this disables Cruise. The trouble is, my LED lights came with resistors already installed. I am unsure what to do....

I wonder if the included resistors are just for the blinker circuit to prevent hyper flashing. I would think if the resistors were tied into the brake light circuit then your cruise would work. You’d have to check the wiring, but you’ll likely have to add another set of resistors to the brake circuit like I did.

Just in time for my wifes surprise birthday trip to Florida that she doesnt know about : ) I didn't want to drive several hours with NO CRUISE! What is this 1981? So I cracked back open the lights to look at the wiring and absolutely yes like you deducted, the resistor was tied to the parking lights/turn signals. So I went to three different stores ACE HARDWARE/ADVANCED AUTO/ & fInally OREILLY'S and they had exactly the right specification resistor. Tied it into the right side brake light, and we are back cruising. I want to thank you again, you really did help me alot, and I pray blessings on you in the future bro-tato!

Did your cruise for sure work before swapping tail lights and are you positive that the resistors are wired in correctly/making good contact at the splice? I’m not sure why the cruise still wouldn’t work if that’s the case. My only idea at that point would be to throw the old tail lights back in temporarily to see if the cruise starts working again. That way you at least know ow if it’s an issue with the lights or the truck itself.

@@TonyTheTruckGuy got to thinkin about it and i think the connection is probably bad. checked the resistors last night after an 45 min drive and they weren’t hot at all. it puzzled me because all of my lights worked so i figured the connection was fine.

Reverse has nothing to do with the brake circuit, so if you have LED tail and brake lights then this is likely your issue.

@TonyTheTruckGuy Yeah after i wrote that i felt dumb haha. But I did some 6 ohm load balancer/resistors, and it's worked perfectly now. I never had a hyper flash which is what threw me off to begin with.

Bought same led lights recently & I thought everything was fine till this one guy stopped me on the road and suggested to fix my tail lights before I’d get pulled over. Didn’t know they wouldn’t come on. Blinkers,reverse light and brake lights do work though. The fuse is good I’m thinking I need to take that adjustment. Did anyone had that issue?

@@jorgel7781 Ok so it's a different body style. This diagram shows several fuses. Fuse box under the hood on driver's side. Should be a 15A fuse in slot #26 marked LT PRK, then another 15A fuse in slot #27 marked RT PRK. Then there's a 3rd fuse in slot #25, also a 15A marked TRLR PRK. Check all of those or swap with another fuse of the same amperage and let me know how that goes.

I have the same issue everything works even all my brake lights when the lights are off in the day… I turn on my headlights at night the driver and passenger brake lights don’t work for some reason but my 3rd brake light works at all times. But for whatever reason my lights only work in the day when my headlights are off I just put in the same resistor kit you did everything works but still no left and right brake light but 3rd brake light works.

Do all LED taillights do this? Lose cruise control? 😳🙄🤔

Unless the taillights specifically state that they correct this issue, then yeah as far as I know. A buddy of mine installed a different brand and they do the same thing.

Just pause it at 7:25 and you can see where each wire goes. All you're doing is taking 1 resistor per tail light and wiring 1 wire from the resistor to brake light ground and the other wire from the resistor to brake light power.
