Crown Square Apartments Fire 5/19/15 Bristol Township, PA.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Bristol Township Police were on scene reporting smoke showing from an apartment. Third District Battalion 14 requested any apparatus who are not responding to be replaced due to the police report. Battalion 14 arrived on scene reporting a three story garden style apartment building with smoke showing. Levittown #2 Deputy 13 took interior and confirmed a working bedroom fire. Edgely Ladder 10 was first in and came straight into the court yard and pulled their bumper line to the interior. Engine 14 did the same and pulled a backup line to the interior. Croydon Ladder 11 crew assisted with ventilation and interior operations. Engine 52-1 dropped into a hydrant across Green Lane and Bristol Engine 501 picked it up. William Penn Engine 77 was assigned RIT. Fire was placed under control at 14:15 hours. Crews from Bristol, Fairless Hills and Tullytown assisted on the fireground. Bucks County Medic 143 stood by.

    I see all these negative comments about what they did wrong, but out of all the firefighting videos I see on youtube, these fighters by far have a little pep in their step and is what I, as a bystander would expect to see. I see too many firefighters that are taking their sweet time getting out the equipment and just look generally disinterested in being there. I don't need any responses about how hard their job is. I know it's hard, I'm just saying. if my house were on fire I would want them to have some sense of urgency for my piece of mind.

    James Barela I hate to be “that guy” and reply to this comment when it probably means nothing to you. I have been in the fire service for a little over a year, I am by no means an expert. But I have found that there is a fine line between moving with a purpose and panic. I this video I saw a lot of both. I also saw one Firefighter with a mask but forgot his hood... this is just one example of the negative effects of a very fast almost panic stage... Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. When you see the guys walking slow, they are sizing up the scene. Looking for fire and smoke or possible emergency exits. How many floors and what type of construction. These are all things to take into consideration in seconds before you walk in and loose almost all of your senses immediately. If they look like they’ve done it before, they probably have. And that exactly the guy I want right by my side when I crawl through that door

    One of the best examples of self motivation and team work that I have seen. Trucks positioned correctly, correct lengths of hose pulled, Quick water to the crews and hydrant connections made before the tanks ran dry. Also setting up the ladder to the roof in case it was needed, while not cutting holes that were not required.

    The only reason the truck drove up onto the grass was so they can position the stick to the roof. It would not reach from the lot. Plus if they planned on using the trash line its only maybe 150 of hose so it also would not reach. You do what you have to do to get the job done. If that means driving over cars to do it

    Perhaps someone could explain to me, why knocking out an aircon unit fitted in a series of 4 already broken windows, helps fight a fire ? It seems pointless and no more than vandalism for its own sake, so perhaps someone can enlighten me.

    This is a good training video for multiple reasons. Everything from Basic fireground operations, PPE, SCBA, and even some tactical operation. The bottom line, lucky no one got killed and everyone went home. I would like to use this video to show recruits. I'm sure they could learn a few things. I'm not going to criticize how other areas fight fires. But I would not do it this way.

    I was a firefighter for 26 years. What I mostly see now in these videos is people with all kinds of "training". Problem is, the only thing they CAN'T do is put out a god damned fire! At least these guys did that, and fairly effectively. I would have liked to see little less "collateral damage" (broken windows) but, from the way I read the smoke, I saw no real hazard in it to either life or fire intensity. That actually proved to be the case, as well.

    Just some observations and comments. I'm not a KZread certified Fire expert like many others. I'm just a Fireman since 1985.I'm in Illinois across the Mississippi River from the St Louis Metro. I have noticed on many videos the drivers do not have to do anything but drive and pump. Ambulance crews leave their cots out. Every window gets broke and gets a ladder. There are Firemen everywhere and lots of trucks. Where in the hell do all of these guys come from? Is everyone out East a Firefighter?Every area does things the way it works for them. We use positive pressure to vent so breaking windows generally is a no, no. I drive, set the pump, pull the line, pack up, charge the line and make the hit. Some times by myself if none of the Volunteers show yet or the guy from our other station has not arrived yet. I have recruited citizens and Deputies to help me stretch lines. They love it and some times we get apps for volunteers this way.On Mutual Aid my Chief if not needed in a command role acts as a Firefighter. We do more mutual aid structure fires than we have of our own. I bet my Chief does more interior work than any of the other Chief in the area.

    I know why they knocked down the windows so they can get to the fire and windows are dangerous during a fire they also wanted to rescue as many people as possible and that building wasn't saved I'm guessing.

    No windows were not knocked out to get to the fire. Windows are knocked out for ventilation and incase a FF has to bail out or even a rescue. Then the windows are already out and free of any glass.

    Great job on your video. I'm curious why I always see so much window breaking on fires in the Northeast and Midwest. It seems like that provides a lot more oxygen to the fire which increases it's rate of burn and spread. Doesn't it also create more flow paths which could make the fire's extension a lot more erratic?

  • @christopheryoung8190

    @christopheryoung8190

    9 жыл бұрын

    gregfromtheoc Agree. I sure hate to see guys breaking windows below the fire. Just adds fresh air, and accelerates the fire. This one, fire on first floor. The broken windows on front might have vented, or might have added fresh air to the fire.

  • @gregfromtheoc

    @gregfromtheoc

    9 жыл бұрын

    Central PA Spotter It seems logical to create as many openings as possible to let the smoke and heat out. However, in reality and supported by extensive testing by NIST, creating a lot of openings in the building allows more oxygen to reach the fire which makes it grow much faster. It also creates flow paths that the hot gasses will follow which spreads the fire much more quickly and in multiple directions. There are many videos which demonstrate this. Crews start breaking multiple windows and a single room fire VERY quickly spreads throughout the entire structure.

  • @jacobeast1

    @jacobeast1

    9 жыл бұрын

    gregfromtheoc NIST is a controlled environment and can't account for years of experience on the firefloor. I've been to a lot of fires, and I always like it better when I can see it; it goes out quicker. That said, no ventilation should happen until a charged hose line is in place.

  • @gregfromtheoc

    @gregfromtheoc

    jacobeast1 Thanks for your perspective. Based upon your experience, what's your opinion re: an initial attack from the exterior to knock down the fire then quickly transitioning to an interior attack to finish the job? For example, on a fully-involved room that has already self-vented out the window, shoot a stream in the window to knock the fire down then move to an offensive attack from the interior.

    Why do they smash the windows instead of just open them? They do have thermal cameras - but do smash the roof. Why? And the attack of the fire is faaar to slow. Here in Sweden the BA-crew gets dressed up in the car and are ready for the first attack when they arrive at the scene.

Plus it looks like it could be a public housing community, In that era, such complexs were built by the Federal government and no local little town government is goona tell the Feds how to build, lest they lose out on Federal grant money.

    Well....fire went out, no one killed....that's good. Don't know specs as the vid is all I have here but ladders don't put fire out.....they're busy trying to ladder every 2nd floor window while the initial attack is from the tank of a LADDER....was the 7:50 the first water supply? No noticeable victims hanging out windows...seems as though fire attack would greatly archive all tactical obj...not all water automatically converts to steam. Solid bore streams would actually extinguish fire and cool environment. Arbitrarily breaking windows is an old school tactic that is proven to, many times, intensify fire. I'll echo another statement as well....that 2 color bunker gear FF needs a hard look in the mirror....

    The line was inside making the push and most likely called for them to vent the windows. It's common practice in the US to mask up at the door, some guys choose to mask up on the apparatus....personal preference. PPV is also common after the fire is out to help move the rest of the smoke out of the building. Some departments utilize PPV while making the attack but that's an entire different post haha

    And another point is u have no baeco ..breathing apparatus entry control officer who is responsible for the upkeep of the ba teams i.e time in location what there task is and what time there time of whistle is i.e what time they should be exiting the building..if there not out at a given time than the entry control officer can send in emergency teams to the location that they were given on there specific brief..haha

    Things work a little differently over here. The individual firefighters are responsible for monitoring their SCBA levels. As for task, those are either assigned by the incident commander or pre determined by what apparatus you are riding 1st due, 2nd due truck/engine and what specific seat you're sitting in on the apparatus (nozzle, backup, forcible entry, etc).

    +jim bob when you put water on a fire, it turns to steam. water increases in volume by 1700x when it converts to steam. In order not to cause steam burns to victims and firefighters in the building, it is necessary to ventilate the compartment to release the steam, as well as release smoke and hot gases to improve visibility

    +Ed Fitz Bull! Water is way cooler than fire. You put enough water on a fire it cools it. Water also cools the gasses at the ceiling. Even the average FFer would know enough not to put small amounts of water on a hot fire. And no, water does not push a fire either. Third generation FFer who uses common sense.

    I want to know who trained that chief to blow out windows. These departments are seriously a disgrace. The way they are just blowing out windows is a good way to make that fire worse. This is just destruction of property and improper training. I can't even believe I sat through this video when all it does is showcase how stupid these departments are. One of these guys will get killed venting like that.

    The lad doing horizontal ventilation is not wearing an SCBA. Poor practice... The probie girl with the mismatched turnouts cannot physically handle the job, even with help. 3 fire fighters standing there while the guy with no PPE raises a 45' extension ladder by himself into power lines... Bristol et al need some training days before someone gets hurt...

    Why break out all the windows!?? Try before you pry!! They had more than enough manpower inside, opening the windows causes less damage. Second, be ready!! Should have pack and mask on before you even get on scene, especially if you are first or second engine in.
