Crowded House on Much Music Italian Plastic (5/13)

Italian Plastic on Intimate and Interactive
At the release of Together Alone, Crowded House appeared on Much Music's Intimate and Interactive performing and taking questions. Once of my favorite performances. See all 13 clips.
In 1995 or so, I traded a Daniel Ash solo CD, 5 blank VCR tapes, and postage for 10 hours of Crowded House video. I couldn't tell you the name of the person who did it, but it was quite a score for me.
Some of it is pretty common, some of it obscure. I'm posting all the non-commercially available stuff. It is quite a project but another CH fan did me a favor 14 years ago and it is my turn to repay the favor. Watch all the videos and if you are a fan enjoy! PLEASE COMMENT, RATE, and SUBSCRIBE. I'd love to hear from you and I have dozens of more clips on the way!

That's me making the song request. I was the lucky guy chosen before the cameras rolled to select a song for the band to play, and I told the producer Into Temptation...in retrospect I was asked ahead of time so the poor band could be prepared. However it was clear once the show started that Paul was in poor spirits. I'd seen CH many times and Paul was usually leading the fun, but he was in a dark mood that night. So when the live mic was put in front of me, I switched my choice to Italian Plastic, hoping it would cheer ol' Hessie up. I'm sure that's why Neil had to do a quick retune (sorry Neil!). It didn't work of course. Obviously there were very powerful demons pulling at Paul. But I don't regret trying to show him some love.

Quick thinking and a kind gesture on your part. Paul was one of the most fun and funny figures in Rock n Roll. A shame that he had to pay for his humour with such deep repercussions.

this is my favorite song by CH, but i can see the tension in everyone's eyes in this video, even Mark's. sad, but still a wonderful song and so well done. my favorite version is the live in Sydney "Farewell To the World" tour. there didn't seem to be so much tension at that one.

Yikes, I whinced a bit there when I heard Neil mention how Split Enz had so many "strong personalities" implying that Crowded House didn't. Then Paul comes back with "I get to pull one out every now and then". It's not surprising that this was one of CH's last shows with Paul.

I don't see it necessarily as a dig at his band members. Split Enz were a 6 piece, Crowded House was half that so right off the bat that's half the personalities. Split Enz had multiple songwriters trying to get their songs heard, whereas Crowded House was really Neil plus a bit of other. It might have come across as arrogant, or disrespectful, but I don't think he intended that. But clearly, all was not right here.

i've heard that Neil could be quite a taskmaster at times, a perfectionist. not that it is a bad thing, because his lyrics and music are genious, but i've read that he could be hard to work with at times
