Crowd Pleaser (Short Horror Film)

Between lack of sleep from her haunted apartment and constant rejection from those around her, college student Mira’s life is less than satisfactory at the moment. But if she’s learned anything from her favorite comedians, it’s to just laugh! After all, a little laughter never hurt, right?
Mira: Jocelyn Wadland
Anna: Mary Jo Swank
Alex: Jon Vellante
Laura: Alexa Portigal
Armin: Jake Casper
Kassie: Charlotte Kidd
Miguel: Max Littlewood
Neighbor: Jaime Si
Director of Photography: Jaime Si
Production Assistant / Sound Recordist: Christina Pucci
This film was made possible with the help of a lot of special people, especially my incredible crew Jaime Si and Christina Pucci, who worked tirelessly to bring this film together. Also a special thanks to my Professor Sam Lotuff, whose advice and insight helped me through the difficult process of making a student film during a pandemic.
I hope you enjoy the film! And, of course, please be nice to your roommates, who knows what could happen if you're not...

@@midnightgir6 some do and some don’t. The last group project I had, which was just last semester, we had a member that did almost nothing and we had to let our instructor know. She asked us to write up a statement about what he did and did not contribute. I don’t think she took it into consideration in the end because she took quite a few points off our project even though there were only two of us trying to scramble last second to write the sections that the other guy didn’t do

Laura and Kassie are the kind of students that I wouldn't never want to be placed in a group with, always the one who makes it look like they are the ones staying on top of the entire project while making others look like they aren't contributing much to it. In any group of students at any academic level, there is always a Laura. And for every Laura in a group there also always a Kassie, the one that doesn't really contribute anything and is always negligent of the group work.

I cant believe theres so much sympathy for the devil on this thread. Mira was the bad guy and everyone is so crazy in having empathy for her. So she had her feelings hurt, we all have. This makes it okay for her to murder? You can say every serial killer has sick and sad and sometimes devastating experiences but it doesn't take away from the horrible things they chose to do. She chise to murder her housemates because her feelings were hurt. She chose to screw over her classmates because she felt some kind of way. None of this is acceptable behavior for someone decent. She is the bad guy and doesn't deserve your sympathy. Tell me you wouldn't be creeped out if you're housemate was hanging out in your room while you werevaway, touching all your things, using your stuff. Seems they trued hanging out with her, but she was only about what she liked. She could easily tell they weren't interested yet still pushed ahead instead of trying to find any kind of common ground. No! Stop siding with the serial killers! People shouldnt be murdered. Period.

Nobody can sustain forever being treated like a doormat and pushing down own needs. I feel that there is no moral here. You have different crowds of folks in the movie. The protagonist is introverted and lonely. That's not unusual. Her roommates are just the opposite of her, i.e., the opposite of academically inclined and diligent. They are also also not very sensitive, but that's probably with each other, not just her. They seek gratification from partying rather than intimate bonding. She probably wouldn't have enjoyed joining them -- quite the opposite. I can't imagine the social dynamic unfolding in any other way. In fact, it seems contrived for her to be roommating with them to begin with, but I guess these things happen from time to time. She eventually has to find people like her, though that is not easy. I see nothing unusual about the oil-and-water incompatibility between her and her roommates. That's why I don't see a lesson here. The disturbing thing is that gruesome death should be the just result of such a rather common incompatibility. It's more a reflection of psychopathy, in my view. Now there is one point of oddity. That fact that her Mom didn't call her back. It depends on the mental health of her Mom. If the Mom is also contending with issues of her own, then that is the reality. Or if the Mom is simply incapable of empathizing enough to remember to call back, yes, that's a personal challenge that the protagonist will have to learn to navigate.

Absolutely love this take! I see too many people defending the protagonist. In my opinion. It's clear she doesn't care about other people's feelings. She notices her neighbours are the partying types, why not try and party with them once in a while? She sees they're not enjoying the movie, why do you still expect them to watch another one with you? She seems quite selfish, in my opinion. Only wanting to do things that benefit her. Even the group project she took on wasn't a selfless act, she did it because she wanted the validation from the group. It's all about her. That's why she can't fit in.

@@candynike897 I have to agree. I'm kind of shocked looking at the comments here. Most of the people seem to be sympathizing with her just because she is "so nice and lonely", the whole movie I was thinking to myself she is socially akward and she has to aknowledge that she has to change if she want's to have friends. She let's people take advante of her to get that short term social gratification and she doesn't give a shit that her roommates are absolutely not interested in her show. Ever asked yourself: if her roomates are so bad, why did they watch this stuff with her in the first place? they tried to give her a change and be nice to her. And her roommate being angry at her for going at her stuff and drinking her bourbon, ffs seriously she has every right to be angry. And her boyfriend was even really nice to her. And she fucking kills both? What the hell kinda message is that. That was not at all justified. And what the hell is wrong with the people in the comments actually believing her roommates deserved that? I really don't know anymore what to say at this point

19:23 I don't know why, but even tho, I know, it's only acting, it's painful watching her drink that, thinking it's her first time drinking. She should be... we've, most of us been there. No need to say it.

I REALLY like this film, its probably one of my favorites this year! Bravo!! Though I do know that it is possible that some people might have actually met the devil I'd like to think that she went crazy and just killed them by hand instead of demon powers. (Although ngl having demon powers sounds super sick!lol)

Well, she now has friends to keep her company, for a little while. I would have kept the girl company. I love Jerry Lewis, and his classic movies, like, "The Nutty Professor" and many others. He cracked us up as little kids. RIP Jerry and Dean. 💞🙏

well covert narcissistic and BPD people also do these. So It's not always the same case. (they believe they "please", they have no boundaries.) However, about other "Sad"/ lonely cases. It's actually about mismatches. Jerks vs. innocent people. Superficial & Shallow vs. authentic & deep people. It doesn't work.

Im actually a mira myself, i literally have no one to talk to. I’ve always been like this my whole life. I wish i people like me around me. If it wasn’t for my kids i wouldn’t be here anymore. It sucks sometimes we feel so misunderstood. I used to cure my depression with alcohol too.
